I tried to make a Ghost Busters vid, using the "Lonesome Ghosts" cartoon, and the Filmation Ghostbusters Theme. Could any of YOU guys do that for me please?
I seem to recall reading that the reason Columbia named their cartoon The Real Ghostbusters wasn't because they weren't allowed to legally, but simply to spite Filmation and their obvious attempt to make money off of Columbia's success.
Ghost Breakers was remade by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis into the film Scared Stiff. In the film, Dean actually introduces himself as a "Ghost Buster"... which is the first time the title is ever used in film history. There are other notables that are missing from your list... Ghost Catchers, Ghost Chasers, the TV shows Shadow Chasers, Extreme Ghostbusters, and Ghost Hunters.
Wow! Very cool... thanks for the info. I did touch on the Extreme Ghostbusters a bit at the end of the video... and I hesitated including the Ghost Hunters because it's a "reality show".

Also, I forgot to mention this... there was a cartoon that preceded "Lonesome Ghosts", that starred Felix the Cat. It was called "Felix the Ghostbreaker" (1923).
What a rich history for something I thought started in the 80's. Good to know where "The real" part came from too. Don't tell me you own that porno. Good video.

The deal the studio made with Lou Scheimer was for the MOVIE rights to the name allowing him to maintain the television rights.
Apparently he later admitted that he SHOULD have negotiated for the rights to do the series based on Columbia's movie.
I doubt that Columbia would ever admit to "spite" for anything... but knowing showbiz, that may be VERY likely too! ;)

I can only imagine what sort of abortion would have resulted if Filmation had been responsible for making the movie's spinoff cartoon...oye.
