  • What the hell is with all the Cisco hate in here?

  • I can't relate to this computer stuff sorry :(

  • I have worked with both cisco & juniper in the past and I can tell juniper is a much more superior platform than cisco imo but it all depends on how the company is laying out there network what there goals are and what type core network they want to have.

  • cisco suxx! :-)

  • Yeah, I know for sure that Cisco already has reverse engineering labs that are publicly not announced. Cisco basically looks at how Juniper and other vendors are doing their shit too.

  • Cisco dosn't follow RFCs tightly ...they re-wrote OSPF for there routers...So interop testing is valid

  • You have to use Cisco gear to test because Cisco doesnt follow the RFC on hardly anything. I quit being a Cisco fan two years ago when I got my hands on the SSG firewalls. Now I deploy nothing but SRX, SSG, and EX products. Cisco fan boys are scared of JunOS. As a 2xCCIE, you need to come over and take a look. Juniper rapes Cisco.....end of story!

  • i think world use 98% Cisco. most craps are cisco proprietary so juniper don't stand a chance

  • LOLLL nice hihi

  • I believe that it is the same at another band's lab.

  • what the hell is dis

  • Haha - I used to manage that Cisco gear in the video. Netscreen (before they were bought by Juniper) subleased one of the four buildings that we owned. It just happened that that building had the one real data center with the megawatt generator, large UPS, major cooling etc. "Refusing to move our gear" is a bit of a funny characterization of the circumstance.

  • go to cisco n check if they dont have juniper gear.

  • Comment removed

  • Cisco is good man..damn good

  • I realy do not se anything bad there.. why cant juniper use cisco gear ? Ever seen some of ciscos labs ? Or HPs ?

  • Juniper vs. Cisco.

    .

You are all they guys that used to be in the playgruod when you were younger complaining to each onther which is better playstation or dreamcast. (I know because I'm one of them ...hehee!)

  • Juniper sucks. End of story.

  • so what ?

son of bil gates has ipod though bil forbid that.

some of microsoft servers are red hat enterprise.

  • @Karpadium, yea those were the days when IBM used to do networking, now all their networking people pretty much work for AT&T.. IBM should be shameful of itself. @jgaynor: dude what about interoprability... You cannot only depend on one type of hardware or software in a networking business.. Cool video by the way...

  • LOL!!!!!!!! XD that is just messed up dude!

  • For all of those saying CCIE's dont' go to Juniper. I know three just in my area alone- the Chicago/Milwaukee area. I'm working on my JNCIE.

  • If this is a POC (proof of concept) lab, the use of inter-vendor equip is even for a vendor like state of the art, equal if cisco or juniper is better or not. This becomes more interesting in cases where the vendor A network has to transport or filter proprietary traffic patterns of a vendor B device with specific software and/or hardware configs. Cheers.

  • I am a CCIE and worked for Cisco and then IBM for years each respectively. Four years ago I had to work on Junos and came to understand the concept of reliable operating system. Anyone is kidding when they think IOS can even come close to JunOS. I work for Juniper now. And oh yeah this person is pretty retarded to say it is a big deal that Juniper has Cisco in their labs. Interoperability needs all different kind of hardware.

  • It's amazing that this requires explanation in the video, the description and the comments (roughly 1x/month), but it's not an interop lab - it's another tenant in the building that just happens to share a colo window in an unfortunately prominent area.

  • @Karpadium Juniper is very powerful platform people are sleeping on the OS-thats why nexus was created by cisco to compete with juniper

  • Junipers are goods to use as firewood in a barbecue...

  • Yeah right buddy, what type of equipment do you work with....Netgear!!!!!! - roflmao!!!!!!

  • You know, this is probably the only video on YouTube that has comments written with proper grammar and spelling.

  • In all seriousness guys, I think the video is funny :) Don't get so hung up about explaining all that crap ;)

  • All companies use competitors equipment for such things as interoperabilty testing. You have to know how your equipment works with the competitors as well as how the competitors works with other vendors, etc...

If you go to a company that only has their own equipment in their labs, you can bet they'll be out of business real quick.

  • Juniper use lots of Cisco equipment for simulating problems in replicas of customer environments. This is hardly news. Cisco's labs are full of Juniper equipment, probably being pulled apart so they can extract the magic ingredients that makes it 10 times faster than their monkey equipment. JUNIPER RULES! CISCO IS FOR TOOLS!

  • I just left cisco to work for juniper... juniper has cisco gear all over the place... they dont use any of it for production use... its all for testing benchmarking etc... they also test against gear from other vendors too... I know cisco does the same. How else do you think they make product comparisons?

  • Cisco laptops use Juniper's Odyssey Wireless Client software.

  • > Cisco laptops use Juniper's Odyssey Wireless Client software.

As well they should - meetinghouse/aegis is terrible and UAC is awesome.

  • It's just a joke, people. Don't take it too serious. Jesus...

  • Don't be foolish. It's the Jun Storage room for interoperablity and performance metric testing. We have Nortel, F5, Juniper, etc gear all over our labs here at the Cisco Campus. I've been to Juniper TME performance testing lab where they compair product performance and publish the results..it's normal...

  • And Juniper people actually work in a building with someone else's Cisco gear?

    Oh, the shame!

Until a couple years ago, the Herndon VA Cisco office had Avaya phone gear. And many Juniper customers have older Cisco gear that hasn't reached the end of its life cycle yet.

GET REAL, NETWORKING IS A BUSINESS, NOT A HOBBY. You don't throw away equipment -- even stuff as crusty as a Pix535 or VXR -- until an upgrade is financially justified.

    DOH!

  • 1.What proof this is in Juniper ?

    2. Is it is it could be lab kit to test interoperability.

    3. Does it matter ?

  • Companies are always interested in reviewing how their products stack up against their competitors too. It could just as easily be a lab in which they pit Cisco-based routing solutions against Juniper's equivalent. This is common-place.

  • regardless of the topic of content...that is a clever and interesting clip! :)

    well done!

  • they share this bldg Ariba, Motorola and Interwoven

  • I know there's a PIX firewall at a major firewall competitor's office: it's deployed as a door stop.

  • Thats like when Microsoft used to run their hotmail servers off of freeBSD.

  • HA! I remember that. I feel old :).

  • hehehe... many juniper people where cisco people before..

  • Absolutely agree. I'm used to be a big cisco guy, CCIE. I never looked back since I joined Juniper.

  • Whatever man. Every wanna be network geek online "claims" to be a CCIE.

  • You were/are a CCIE and joined juniper - YEAH RIGHT!

  • Thats like saying Microsoft doesn't have a Macintosh in any of their buildings. You have to have the product to steal from it! LOL!

  • hard to believe it...Juniper a relatively new company is giving cisco run for its own money...pretty soon it will be REALLY BIG....

  • i dont belive it...

probably there is more than meet the eyes!!!

  • i dont belive it...

probably there is more than meet the eyes!!!

  • Yes it's true - at least it was this past summer. As the video states though it's not their equipment. They rent their San Jose offices from another company and share the building with Covad (I think). The equipment belongs to the buildings other inhabitant - it's just unfortunately directly across the hall from Juniper's classrooms.

  • Is that true ?

  • @mbjr7 Probably, think interoperability, think standard versus non-standard protocols, think issues needing to be replicated - simple really. You really think that Juniper would ditch the stability of JUNOS for its own corporate network...utter crazyness.
