I have a few questions before I begin my shield. What kind of wood did you use? is it plywood? Did you just use wood glue to fasten each layer or some kind of nail rivet or screw? Hope to hear from you and thanks for the add.
I used plywood, it heavy but strong. In the ancient times i think they made from 3 part, and carved out the form. (but nowdays its a bit expensive to buy such materials)
not trying to be a dick here but it looks like a lot of work for something that if a claymore hit it it would get tore up but all in all a great build and great video.
The problem with any shield is weight! With that size (90cm) of protection you can't hold it if its made from full brass or steel. It' not designed against claymores or machineguns, but 500 BC it worked well. :)
@gabber700 I think that when you think of claymore, you think of the explosive, but when i think of a claymore i think of the Scottish claymore. lol. but yes i know what your talking about.
Sweet I will make 1 also. I added you as friends but you still have not accepted. I also make swords and armor, I have a video of a greek hoplite set I made hope you add me and also check out my video as well. love the videos keep up the awsome work.
I am making one also, I have finished sanding my piece, but I am wondering what must I apply to the wood before moving on, (Leathering, painting)

I'm impressed, but didn't their shields also have a layer of metal over the shield or am I just thinking of the spartan shields?

@comicfan21 Yes they usually coated it with bronze, but its a bit difficult to do it and its not cheap :( I think i'll cover just the rim with brass.

@gabber700 that's definitely an option, if it's just meant for costume then you could probably get away with coating it in bronze colored aluminum

just needs a coating of bronze or onther such material
