Salamando is another elemental with a (slightly) different name in the Japanese version.  He's Salamander.

And I too love the Ice Country. It's my favorite place in the game to grind for weapon levels (and even for attack magic levels); the relaxing music and pleasant color palette helps relieve the tedium.

Yeah, not too hard to get multiple controller adaptors, or even a single adaptor that allows multiple controllers (I used to have a USB adaptor with four PlayStation controller ports, but I got rid of it for a less bulky cable with just one port).

You could even set up the controls in your emulator to have one person on a controller and another on a keyboard, or even two players on opposite sides of the keyboard. Heck, most emulators allow up to five player inputs.

I always loved the whole idea of a warm village in the middle of the frozen wasteland. Of course if you're used to arctic weather, 50 degrees would feel pretty tropical.

I think there is an English patch, but I've never used it. I played the actual Super Fam cartridge. Half the fun of the game is playing it in Japanese.

I'd have to say Exploder is the best spamming magic in the game. I know it costs 1 more MP, but it does exponentially more damage when spammed, making it quit easy to hit for 999.

HOLY CRAP!!! I never realized that The Abominable Snowman from the Looney Toons cartoons was based on Lennie from Of Mice and Men!!  I read Of Mice And Men five years ago, and I saw Looney Toons cartoons when I was little...but until now, I never realized this connection!

Yeah, I was trying to convince my friend to watch HCBailly's FF7 videos since he likes that game so much. He refused, saying that "I like to play games, but I don't want to watch other people play them. I've already beaten FF7." What he didn't realize is that it's fun to learn new things and hidden secrets about games you've already played through.

Not to mention LPs bring up feelings of nostalgia and memories of what you did in certain game situations. That's the beauty of LPs.

Haha, same here. I worked for two years at a local Kroger's for my first job ever back in the day during high school. For about two weeks straight, I had to listen to christmas music 6-8 hours a day. Ughhh....

I know the felling. My friend and I would here Christmas music 8 hours a day for 7 years at the fast food restaurant we were working at. The only Christmas music I can stand in Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

We both quit that job. I'm slowly starting to recover at my new job (no music playing up front). My friend, continues to be tortured.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who also can't stand hearing Christmas music EVERY HOUR OF THE DAY the day after Thanksgiving. It's nice the first time around, and it's nice on Christmas Eve/Day, but in the interim, it's like torture.

Boreal Face is a very easy boss but fun to fight. The reason HCBailly been winning all the last few boss fights is because they are melee fights, lol.

Fire Saber makes it so you engulf enemies when you hit them.

Fire Bouquet lowers enemy attack.

Blaze Wall engulfs enemies and works really good on blue drops that you will meet soon.

I actually missed some of the dialogue in the resort when I played SoM recently--I talked to the thief too early. 100 years ago, when I first played this game, I mostly used weapons against bosses. This time around, I played extremely cheaply and mostly spammed them with magic--especially magic absorb at the beginning of each battle.

Well, you can't really use magic against Boreal Face. It's not weak to anything, and it'll generally do far less than what weapons do.

Is it just me, or have the last few bosses taken almost exactly one loop through the boss music track?

The boss song is exactly two minutes long before it loops, and I guess as bosses become tougher (as you go further and further in the game), they take longer to kill--assuming you don't spam magic (and with Boreal Face, you actually can't).
