Sarah Changs version of this is far better, No doubt Ida was great in her time but the modern players are far better and teaching has improved. Of course you will always get youtubers who want to hark back to the past eg Heifetz etc but time moves on.
@Scotelgas Absolutely disagree. Modern violinists have largely lost all elements of personality and style. Mrs. Haendel is one of the greatest violinists currently living, and the only remaining violinist of the golden age of violin. Sarah Chang is mediocre compared to Haendel.
@rytard123 I'm always a bit wary of anyone who says Violinist A makes Violinist B "sound mediocre", or "sound like a student". Sarah and Ida are two wonderful violinists in their own right. They aren't called virtuoso violinists for nothing. Although I have to say if I had to compare., Sarah's version was very technically good, a lot of passion and really exciting. But Ida's may be a bit less passionate, (her age is a factor) but still passionate nonetheless. But a bit more technically precise
@JPLGaGa123 I actually use Ida's words there. In her documentary (on Youtube) she makes note of all the "young, mediocre violinists." She doesn't call Chang by name, and in hindsight, I shouldn't have called Chang mediocre, but I do feel that her playing is cold and characterless.
@Scotelgas You couldn't be further from the truth! Ida Haendel understands this piece and makes much more of it than Sarah Chang. As for your comment about Heifetz it simply displays your ignorance!
Miss Ida works total magic with this number, it is nothing short of astounding the way she plays the parts that ricochet off the orchestra,. Only true genius musicians know how to do it and she has honed this remarkable skill to perfection. Then she comes back with a full force aural assault on the next phrases and she does it with such grace and wondeful style. Beautiful, BRAVO !
I have had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Ida very well. Is is a patron of the academy I am part of and she is really an AMAZING character

She performed very gracefully, like great queen in the midst of her following people (the orchestra). Thank you and thank YouTube too.
