It's not rational to declare the entire bible right regarding events simply because it got a few things correct. This would be akin to saying a Tom Clancy war novel is correct because he uses the dates, names of engagments and locations that the US military does. The fact is that no eye witness account is sufficient to prove a miracle, just like how it's not sufficient for aliens.

If something is historically accurate, there wouldn't be a divide. People wouldn't separate history from biblical history or theology. There is no historical evidence of Jesus and just because there are some old artifacts of people in real life that are also written in the bible doesn't mean what is written in the bible about them actually happened. Of course the Bible has true historical facts in it! It's easy to write a book containing historical events once said events have happened. Ever wonder why Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies? Even if some of the bible can be proven archaeologically it still doesn't prove the bible is true it says that they had great historians or record keepers. Scribes, I believe they called them. I believe they had license or were nudged to inject the religious theme. People still don't realize how smart ancient people were.

@fellowservant34 The Bible has been written in the 5th century AD in Greek. The book was based upon other books written by several authors in different languages, but the "final version" was written by a small group, maybe just one man. They made translation mistakes, they took out stuff they didn't want to be in and they filled gaps with their own imagination.
Most videos pertaining to atheism, on the other hand, do not have disabled ratings because most atheists also encourage viewers to voice their opinion in any way, shape or form. For instance Matthew 2 and Luke 2 refer to historical events that were supposedly going on at the time of the birth of Jesus. Now the issue itself is not with the events. They all happened. The issue is that they happened at very least 9 years apart. How could Jesus have been born during events that did not coincide?

@Jesuslives310 I got it from school (studied ancient history) so I can't really give you a precise link. But you can easily find egyptian creation myths for example. The world is created by god's word in certain versions of their creation. It's quite similar to the bible.

Okay, but having similarities doesn't mean that the Bible was partially copied or even influenced by other mythologies.
You must show an example, and then follow it up with how you know the author used the other sources.
Some people have said that the ten commandments are copied from the Book of the Dead. If one studies both of them, you will find that the similarities are incredibly weak and it is a stretch to stay that the ten commandments were copied from it.

It seems as though there are really only 2 striking similarities. Landing on the mountain and the birds. The rest of the similarities can be explained by logic. For instance, if people were on a boat for a length of time, it would follow that they need food and animals. So there were probably many stories like this.
We know that as stories get passed down over hundreds of years from generation to generation, the fine details change about them.
So there is the possibility that both stories are speaking about the same event, but the details like the name of the mountain and the type of birds changed.
So it doesn't really follow that one story was copied from another.
@karozans The problem is that the bible does share alot with surrounding cultures. The question is, did the other cultures influence them and became part of their own culture, which was then written down in the bible, or did the writers of the bible just look at other myths for inspiration?

I think the best comparison is Homer's work. Troy was found to exist and has been destroyed approximately when the war is supposed to have taken place. That does not mean gods were fighting alongside men during the battle of course. But there are mistakes too, taken from later culture, like burning the dead.

I am not a Biblical scholar but there are many who are. Like Dr. William Lane Craig.
He admits there are some similarities and some errors in the Bible, but these errors and similarities are weak and not enough to discredit the entire thing.
We don't throw away math books because of a few minor errors in them.
It does not matter what proof you show people about the bible - you will either believe it or not. In the book of Revelation people knew that it was God that was judging them and they still decided to worship Satan..

This has been well established with the science of textural criticism where literary style, manuscript evidence, internal consistancy in addition to archaeology together have shown the Bible to be the most reliable document in all of antiquity. No fact of history has ever contradicted a single claim in the Bible. Comparing spiderman or leprechauns as being equally substantiated is both ignorant and stupid.

It's not rational to declare the entire bible right regarding events simply because it got a few things correct. This would be akin to saying a Tom Clancy war novel is correct because he uses the dates, names of engagments and locations that the US military does. The fact is that no eye witness account is sufficient to prove a miracle, just like how it's not sufficient for aliens.

If something is historically accurate, there wouldn't be a divide. People wouldn't separate history from biblical history or theology. There is no historical evidence of Jesus and just because there are some old artifacts of people in real life that are also written in the bible doesn't mean what is written in the bible about them actually happened. Of course the Bible has true historical facts in it! It's easy to write a book containing historical events once said events have happened. Ever wonder why Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies? Because the people who wrote the New Testament had access to the Old Testament's prophecies. It's easy to make up a story when you know everything that has to happen already. Even if some of the bible can be proven archaeologically it still doesn't prove the bible is true it says that they had great historians or record keepers. Scribes, I believe they called them. I believe they had license or were nudged to inject the religious theme. People still don't realize how smart ancient people were.

The book was based upon other books written by several authors in different languages, but the "final version" was written by a small group, maybe just one man. They made translation mistakes, they took out stuff they didn't want to be in and they filled gaps with their own imagination.

Most videos pertaining to atheism, on the other hand, do not have disabled ratings because most atheists also encourage viewers to voice their opinion in any way, shape or form. I can only guess that all videos pertaining to religion must be really bad since apparently the majority of viewers "force" the uploader to disable ratings.
I didn't like this video. It lacks in sound, narration and image quality. The title is misleading, as this is not scientific proof of any kind. Down voted.

There can be several reasons for disabling ratings:
1) The video is stupid/trolling/disturbing and the uploader knows he will get down votes for it
2) The uploader has a bad reputation and automatically gets down voted by viewers for everything he does
3) The uploader wants to control everything that is said, like a "big brother"

For instance Matthew 2 and Luke 2 refer to historical events that were supposedly going on at the time of the birth of Jesus. Now the issue itself is not with the events. They all happened. The issue is that they happened at very least 9 years apart. How could Jesus have been born during events that did not coincide?

They found none and in fact lead to the knowledge we now know of the history and geology of the earth. However, there is absolutely NO evidence to support the mythical viewpoint those authors had regarding what we now know about science, the world and universe. Another thing in common is the evil snake.

Okay, but having similarities doesn't mean that the Bible was partially copied or even influenced by other mythologies.
You must show an example, and then follow it up with how you know the author used the other sources.
Some people have said that the ten commandments are copied from the Book of the Dead. If one studies both of them, you will find that the similarities are incredibly weak and it is a stretch to stay that the ten commandments were copied from it.

It seems as though there are really only 2 striking similarities. Landing on the mountain and the birds. The rest of the similarities can be explained by logic. For instance, if people were on a boat for a length of time, it would follow that they need food and animals. So there were probably many stories like this.

So there is the possibility that both stories are speaking about the same event, but the details like the name of the mountain and the type of birds changed.

I think the best comparison is Homer's work. Troy was found to exist and has been destroyed approximately when the war is supposed to have taken place. That does not mean gods were fighting alongside men during the battle of course. But there are mistakes too, taken from later culture, like burning the dead.

I am not a Biblical scholar but there are many who are. Like Dr. William Lane Craig.
He admits there are some similarities and some errors in the Bible, but these errors and similarities are weak and not enough to discredit the entire thing.
