Ok a lot of ppl here are arguing that the drug increases your appetite so you eat more and gain weight, but there are ppl who eat the same and still get fat, it depends on the individual for some ppl you will still get fat even if you haven't changed your diet!
I stopped using this poison after 8 years of taking it, i came from 40mg. and i've build it down to 0.5 mg. over a period of 2 years, now i've quit for 2 weeks but i feel tired and agitated as hell, does anyone know if this goes by and how long it takes?
You will gain eventually, it dpends, but I suggest you to stop taking the pills before it is too late, if you wait too long, it will be a nightmare the recovery process.
My mom went on Paxil and around that time, started gaining weight. To me, it looks like she's gained about 30lbs, which is a lot for her. She does not believe me that it could be the Paxil. When the doctor who prescribed it saw her, she immediately told her that she probably has a tumor and that she needs an emergency ultrasound.
Wouldn't it be crazy if I was right the entire time?
Sorry to hear that you had to go through this, sounds tough!
the doctora that perscribe paxil or prozac Know fully what will happen yet issue it anyway because Money is what they want to keep you adicted to it. They do Not care else they wouldnt perscribed it!!!
The doctors Do know all about the effects in the doctors journal manual they read yet know but do not care, that's why they persuade you to take it. They don't care for ppl. It's a money machine business at your pain!
I had depressiojn and anxiet problems last year. I took Seroxat (Paxil) 20mg and it helped me after 1 month i'v been taking it for another 3 months my weight gain for about 8-10 kg and i felt like: "I 'don't care of anything or anyone" I stopped on my own in 3 weeks reducing 5 mg each week. Now its about 1,5 year after i stopped i feel good but 10 addicional kg is still on me :)
I have had a similar experience. I was skinny all my life until I began taking Paxil. I began putting on weight rapidly. I thought for a long time that the weight gain was due to being in my 40s, too much too eat, not enough exercise. Turns out my diet is actually pretty good, and I get some exercise. Went off the Paxil a few weeks ago, and I've already lost 8 pounds.
Damn clinicians oh no it's never the drugs or any of their procedures that are a detriment. Antidepressants are BIG PHARMAS jealous reaction to Pablo Escobar.
Anxiety/Panic attacks is due to lack of Serotonine(a neurotransmitter for our moods, emotions). The lask of serotonine is shutting down your food apetite.->so,taking the medicine,as a result, the Serotonine increases->therefore you start to eat.
The serotonin theory of anxiety/panic is a marketing tool created by the pharamceutical industry to sell SSRIs. There is no test to measure serotonin levels that can be performed on a living human being. SSRIs definitely alter brain chemistry, but even the manufacturers admit they don't understand how they work.
I've been on Aropax (Paxil) for about 5 years. I have slowly gained weight over this time, about 10-15 kg I think, I don't know whether it is because of the drug or not but it really annoys me, I don't think I eat that much differently then before. I asked my doctor but she said the drug only makes you crave food more, but looking on the net sooooooooo many people have posted stories about weight gain on this drug that it makes me wonder...I really want to come off it now, but am scared :(
paxil SUCKS!!! i am a 20 year old woman, before going on paxil i weighed 120 pounds, i am now almost 180. and i was eating right and excercising. it has now been a month since i began withdrawal and it is possible to get through it!!! im still going through hell but you just need to keep pushing!!! i find that going for runs or walks helps get rid of the anger and anxiety attacks. and it helps you lose that damn paxil weight!!!
no, dont ever do anything concerning this drug without consulting your doctor first.
You have to take extra care of your physical condition though as this type of drugs tends to slow your metabolism and thus increase the risk of getting fat. Strict dieting and exercise will help you stay thin.
I had a lot of problems with paxil I was prescribed it after the death of my baby boy , My life spiralled out of control completely I felt as though i was in a fog all the time , I took the paxil for over a year and a half and eventually towards the end I was suicidal All I wanted to do was shut everyone out and cry all the time I gained weight and had other side effects I eventually just stopped taking them and I was ill for a while afterwards this drug is dangerous no matter what any1 says
I found out about "Paxil Pounds" after it was too late. I have little appetite (typically take 1/2 my restaurant meal home) but I went from 120-l90 lb. in a few months, 20 and 30 lb. at a time, the last in just a weekend. Before, I'd only gained 15 lb. fully pregnant, each of 5 times, 7 or 8 of that was baby. The weight gain is depressing in itself.
Hi, am currently slowly weaning off Paxil(60mgs) for severe depression after I put on 20 kilos(40lbs approx). Eat well and am very active, it just makes me blue to see an ogre in the mirror.
Paxil made me FAT too! I went from size 26 waistline to 30! Paxil stole my sex drive & stole my creative energy. I'm a portrait artist so that sucked.I slept all the time & even though Paxil eliminated the INITIAL symptoms of depression,it gave me new reasons to be sad. I went off paxil taking 1 every 2 days hen only when i 'needed' it-then eventually none and had to suffer for ages morbid sadness like someone died-took about 1 year till i felt right again.I'm now thin again and full of energy.
Thank you for this video. I gained 5o lbs as well. Now I am tapering off of the paxil and it is HELL.I feel like someone split my skull open with an axe. The doctor didn't tell me that part.
Someone said Paxil does not affect your metabolism & has nothing to do with weight gain? Are you crazy!Paxil like the other drugs in its class, can impede specific enzymes in your liver that allow your metabolism to function correctly. Much like crimping a garden hose so paxil impedes certain neuroendocrine system pathways. The two major hormones that regulate metabolism are insulin. One controls fat storage while the other is responsible for telling the liver what to do with its stored glucose.
I never expected anything like this... I went on Paxil for two months because of traumatic event in my life... after I felt I was back on my feet, I decided to go cold turkey from 20 mg... probably not the smartest thing to do, but it didn't seem to matter, missing a dose made me dizzy, sick, horrible zaps... it's like you can't get away from them... horrible nightmares, so bad I was afraid to sleep but couldn't stay awake... yes. PAXIL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS. AND THE WEIGHT GAIN.
i took paxil and i gained about 5 lbs but becuase i work out about 3-4 times a week it got converted to muscle and did not effect me at all (except for maybe a boost from being buffer?) i am younger . . but.. . the effects that paxil provides clearly outweighs (no pun intended) the benefits of not having as severe psychological issues.
same exact thing happened to me could not stop the weight gain and once you put it on you cannot get it off the dr. wil tell you it doeent because they all accept gifts from the drug companies
Damn. Paxil doesn't affect your metabolism, but you were probably eating more of the healthy foods that you realized because your appetite was higher than normal. Your "full" button didn't turn off until you'd already gotten enough energy. I've read about all that too, but I was hoping it would make me lose weight and I could be the exception because it makes me too nauseas to eat already and I feel happier which makes me less inclined to stuff myself. I dunno if I want to take the risk though.
by the way, it's not the paxil itself that is causing you to gain weight. there are no chemical factors involved anyway. you gain weight because you become complaicent thereby eating more and exercising less. i have no problem losing weight when i eat right and exercise and i don't even have to exercise that much.
i think i'm gonna stop using seroxat, because now i feel unhappy because of the extra weight i gained. before i took it i was too skinny too, and now my face and belly seems to blow-up ...
yes i take it..i was always TOO SKINNY..geez now fat belly! LOL ..maybe getting older ya know...paxil will make u not give a damn if u let it. which of course leads to inactivity.
They way things overlap in life...u have to just get out there and walk every day and etc...now im tapering off and it feel slike the hyperness is makingme loose the weight...along with the nausea! gott aluv it! (NOT)
Curiously, I too gained about 50 lbs in the 3 years I've been taking Paxil. I've assumed that it was just my ever-shifting exercise and eating habits. I knew that Paxil could cause weight gain or loss, but I didn't think much of it. I mean, one of the DSM criteria for diagnosing Depression is eating more/less, so I figured that it was just common sense that treating the depression would reverse that trend, resulting in weight gain or loss.
Anyway, the Paxil doesn't seem to be working too well for me anymore, and I'm sick of having such flat emotions. I know that I'm one of the "fortunate few" who have extreme withdrawal symptoms, from accidental experience. So while I'm not looking forward to the Zaps and dizziness and irritability and crying at nothing, I am going to get off this stupid drug finally. And maybe I'll shed a few pounds, too =+)
I went off Paxil cold turky some years ago and then ended up going back on it, because I had a severe panic attack for three days and this was several months after I had quit taking Paxil. Anyway, I got the brain zaps too. They were pretty bad and it lasted about a month. Then it was gone. I have been taking Paxil on and off for 11 years now. It has reduced my panic attacks, but not completely removed them. I guess it's time for me to also withdrawal and move on to something else.
I took Xanax for about a month, but I live in Sweden now and they won't give you addictive medications unless you are either dying or in need of a straight jacket. I'm going to ask my doctor for a prescription of it though for the plane ride back to California this month. She'll probably say no.
I certainly understand why you would say that psychiatrists did this to me. Fortunately that is not the case for me. Maybe I'm the only one in the world, I don't know, but caring, concerned psychiatrists and their aides saved my life. I never tried to commit suicide again and finally got my life back on track. Paxil was a horrible thing, but the doctor that prescribed it did not know of the awful effects.
