Yeah, my definitive version as well! Oddly enough, it was the first version of these utterly charming three pieces I had ever heard. Later I heard quite a few more, few of them came close, but none could match Maurizio's glittering rendition. Thanks a lot for sharing.
@edward130603 This clip actually contains the first two movements. The first one ends where there's that gap in the sound at 2:32 after the big cadence. Most of the performances of this work on youtube tend to be uploaded with the first two movements lumped together because they can both fit within 10 minutes.
Rhythms, yes maybe Pollini gets them across better but Weissenberg's I find has more power and energy. Pollini's does too but Weissenberg's is still my favorite.
Nah - I hate to say it, but I prefer Pollini's Petrushka performance to Weissenbergs...
I mean Weissenberg is a phenomenal pianist, however Pollini never takes a single note at a tempo that doesn't fit... there are some parts in the 2nd and 3rd movements where Weissenberg plays it WAY too fast.

This is great. As Gilels. But i think 17yo Sokolov's version is better than any other

He's pretty darn good, but I think Pollini emphasises certain rhythms better

That's alright, not trying to talk you out of it

Have you heard Rubinstein's version, the dedicatee?
GreggaryPeccary 2 years ago
No, I will have to listen to his. I also like Gilels' version.
morvensky 2 years ago
Yeah. This argument is silly.
I will shut you both up with Lazar Berman's.

Err, dude, you blocked me?
GreggaryPeccary 2 years ago
Briefly D: You pissed me off by giving that video a 1 star.
But now minirausch is pissing me off more, so you can come back ;D

Dude, I TOLD YOU IT WASN'T ME! Why wouldn't you take my word for it?
GreggaryPeccary 2 years ago
Wait, you're serious? xD
I thought you were like, going out of your way to tell me you did do it. You put the like... ;P face at the end of it.
I don't know what that means in Germany, but in America, that's the "I'm lying" face, pretty much xD
John11inch 2 years ago
Well, I never knew exactly what it meant...
XD I just used it as a sort of smirk, like "look who just got beaten"

And I couldn't permit the video response for some reason

Eh? From what I know, Rubinstein never recorded this piece.
GeneralKuno 2 years ago
Oh, I got the impression he did from how the uploader said it. I knew that before but I assumed there was a live performance bootleg on YT.
morvensky 2 years ago
But let's hope that a bootleg recording of Rubinstein surfaces soon enough.

This certainly sounds definitive. Good find.
