I use to go see these guys every time they played at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha. They were such a great band, too bad they broke up. I heard a rumor they are getting back together though.
was there another song in the ninties that had the suddenly quick chorus like this song at 1:22 cause I want to say it sounds so much like another song
I'm stationed in Japan but used to live in O'fallon, IL. Go to the Slacker's in O'Fallon. I have a feeling they would have it. God Bless Steve Ewing!! HYAAAH!!!
@holman182 its called too much stereo thats the name of the album but good luck finding it im from St. Louis like the band and its hard to find it they are so good though
@GordonNewman39 You are correct on everything you said in your post.....I am from K.C. and "way back in the day, 15 years or so"" I met these guys outside the BestBuy here siginig autos (release of Rec. the Gift of Flavor) and since then I have been a HUGE FAN..... They played in K.C. all the time and one of the best shows I went to was in order of appearance The Urge, No Doubt, 311 and Sandstone in maybe 1996 or 1997....It F'n rocked.......THESE GUYS RULE!!!!
They r 1 of the best bands around 4 ska. 2 bad they aren't together anymore. They are 1 of the best small concerts u could ever c. They have a bad ass stage precence.
Steve Ewing is the bomb diggity and an awesome friend of ours! Check out the video response I posted of him playing with us (Decadent Nation) @ Bacchanalia 2008 in Columbia, MO!
The video's do the music no justice at all! I was 7 rows from a main venue (They were the headliner). Damn it was intense. If you haven't seen them live, your life is empty! Play the MF'ing Urge shit!
I saw him (Steve E)at a winery in Augusta, MO 5$ at the door, one of the best small shows I've ever been to ( the wine may have helped though). hahaha

what's the point of having a three piece horn section if they just stand around for the whole song? They only play for a few seconds, and even then you can hardly hear them over the guitars and vocals.
I have all of their albums except for their first one. They don't use their horn section nearly enough. Most of the time, they have a guitar centered alternative rock sound not unlike 311 or Living Colour. In those songs, the horns play an intro and sit out for the rest of the song. In the few ska songs, they play for less than half the song. I know one of the trombones plays keyboard, but don't have horns in your band if you never use them. At least have them do something else like sing backup.
i havent been listening to the urge for that long, but i absolutely love all of their songs. what kind of music would it be considered? it sounds a little different.
Being from KC the Urge and I crossed paths many times in Lawrence and KC. This band was always the best!! always going out of the way to sign autographs, talk to the fans and just be all around good guys. Thanks "the Urge" if you're reading this.
dude i work with a guy who's good friends with steve e. i think he's a vocal coach of his,but it's awesome hearin some shit about the urge that came right out of steve e.'s mouth... it almost makes me really angry when i turn on the radio and hear all these bad songs from all of these some how "famous" bands when the urge is most definately better then them. it blows my mind how they are not sellin out arenas right now, the urge will always be fuckin awsome!
To think of the countless bands I saw at Mississippi Nights (Green Day, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, They Might Be Giants), nothing could match the massive amount of energy The Urge would literally pull out of the crowd. I probably saw them 30 times between Miss Nights and The Blue Note in Columbia. The band calling it quits was truly heartbreaking.
wow, never thought I'd get to see a video from The Urge...
I remember waiting forever to get their city back in 2000 or 2001, I live in Argentina and I remember being so obsessed with them I ended up turning a lot of people into them, pushed them into everyone's brains hahaha
They sound super good live, no wonder why I used to like them so much, they're a really awesome band
Me and you were probably sneaking into "Twenty North" behing one another too. We use to go see Jake's Leg play on the weekends and during the summer. Actually.. for me it wasnt exactly to see Jake's Leg...I seem to recall that it was one of the only bars (w/cheap beer) that would take all of our crummy fake ID's!!
holy shit this brings back so many memories in high school! I remember seeing Urge, Bellyfeel, Mesh and Purge all at Mississippi Nights and then go get fucked up over the river at Pops. Damn man this is classic our generation, its sad to see such a great band not going on.
Purge!Holy shit-Matt and Craig and Chris all worked for me and we STILL hang out to this day!!Craig is with Toby Kai and the Strays now and tendin bar at the Casino-damn good times
I saw one of the last Urge shows, oh, I think 4 years ago on Christmas. They hadn't toured or played any shows for a long time, so it was a real treat. I see steve pretty frequently, he comes into the bar I work at every two or three months. Love the urge.
Nah, I don't know. The other night my friend Vladamir, who used to have a show on KDHX, and I were hanging out, and all of a sudden he's on his phone. I hear "Hey Stevie E. it's Vlad, the mad russian, I'm putting a show together in L.A. later this year, and wanted to talk to you about it." Anyway, it probably won't be the urge, but Stevie E. might be there. Not that you can't see him in STL all the time. But I still wish that I could just call Stevie E. up.
oh, thats crazy that you know all these people lol. im trying to get my band off the ground so im trying to look into many bands paths to see the best one for me. still kinda confused on the matter
I see Steve all the time, he does a lot shows with just him and an acoustic guitarist and a sampler. One word that describes it:AWESOME and he is a really nice guy always has a drink with me and my friends when we go see him! Just an amazing artist!
