it's to pick out the small number of people who go to protests to stir up trouble and identify them as separate from the legitimate protesters. if you are used to protesting then you will know there are almost always some thugs that get involved that discredit the protest by getting violent or shouting "fuck the police" and these people need to be picked out from genuine protesters. After having watched the first few minutes, I'm with the cops on this one - especially after someone was being uncivil to a cop for no reason, who SAID HE WOULD GIVE INFORMATION if ASKED. If a group or part of a group has been violent before as part of a protest, the police have every right to prevent that group protesting - and they didn't stop you protesting at all, just moved the route. This kind of rubbish gives a bad name to real protestors

So you can't see the security implications of a politically sensitive demonstation with unknown attendance figures, where a particular crime was committed at the last event? Camera crews provide sufficient evidence to single out the few individuals that cause trouble. They were also probably checking out the pram rather than the 4 year old.
