  • You want to be successful out of school? Begin landing the job the first quarter your in school. You have to almost not need the schooling before you even go. That's just the way it is these days.

  • I'm attending MI this fall, and I can honestly say by the time I will get there I will be immensely prepared. I have toured extensively, recorded full albums, and taught. the fact of the matter is, to make it out of one of these schools, you must be able to bring something to the table before you reach their classroom. For instance I'm applying for numerous of their available GIT scholarships and my pieces will range from Steve Vai to Jason Becker to Shooter Jennings.

  • The fact of the matter is, both schools provide you the education both are decently matched on alumni and both are about the same cost. People that bad talk MI, Full Sail, LARS, or Actually Berklee for that matter, lack one concept.

You get what you put in. These schools cant make you a virtouso, or give you the job. Know what your getting into. Know your craft, you should only go to these schools with a great understanding of your craft to begin with. They are here to hone your skill.

  • do you have to getan apartment or are there like dorms on campus?

  • Any MI veteran please answer this question .

What kind of education or requirement do you need to get into this school?

Beside from a high school diploma do you need anything? and how much does it cost?

  • Berklee and MI are roughly the same but because i play guitar and keyboards and would like to do audio engineering, I would rather go to MI and one of the reasons which makes absolute sense why Berklee have 2-3 times as much notable alumni is because Berklee has been around since 1945 and M.I has been around since 1977 a mere 31 years compared to Berklees 64 years, thats twice as much! and Berklee takes about 80+ instruments and MI only takes 5... do the math MI is actually technically better.

  • hey everybody, i'm really interested in going to MI but i can't get very strict information !!

could anybody help me and give me some information ??? (someone who has gone to MI ^^ )

  • Then your friend must be an idiot.. Simple answer, you should be an idiot to sell pizza if you're GOOD at your music and couldnt do anything about music..

  • how can you say no one makes money in the music industry anymore, then go around promoting an expensive ass university like berklee? why would anyone put themselves in that much debt only to find themselves in an industry where they arent gonna be able to pay that off?

  • I live in Mass, and I wan't to move out to LA for MI...I have done some research on both and I can never get straight answers any one willing to talk to me about MI? experienced people only please!

  • I want to go here SoOOOoOoOOoo BAD!!!

  • I go to this school it's a nice school

  • WHY on earth would you want to come to MI? Go to a REAL college like USC, UCLA, UCSB, or UC Berkeley. Good luck trying to make money in the music industry. Go to a university and get a degree in something that will actually make you money like Business, Finance, Economics, Law, or Engineering. MI's campus is shit too.

  • Woow thanks for the tip, now go crawl under a bridge and DIE!

  • Lol go get a real education. Go ahead and tell people you graduated from MI or that you attend MI. You'll see what little respect you get.

  • shut the fuck up man

u think its about the money

    its all about the music

  • Yeah, sure buddy. That's real cute and all but I'm a realist and the reality is the majority of musicians don't make shit in the music industry. It's a dying business no matter what anyone else says. You can't compete with free. If you're gonna study music do it at a respected university-not some for profit piece of shit school like MI. All they care about is your money.

  • music industry isnt a dying business, who do you think youre kidding? turn on your tv for about 5 minutes. i guarantee at least 20 musicians got paid for the music you hear in the background. or how about for movies, or doing session work for major stars, or being a touring musicians with a big act. i know a guy from MI who got a job with Rihanna. i go to MI and i just auditioned for the offspring about a week ago. come talk to me about Berkeley when they start holding auditions for major acts.

  • The amount of money they get paid isn't shit unless it's a big name artist at the top of the charts. How many artists make significant money each year these days? The percentage of musicians who actually make good money is very low. Who would make more money? A starving musician coming out of MI or an educated young person who went to USC business school? MI is just filled with college dropouts and slackers. And are you seriously gonna compare MI to UC Berkeley? Who are you kidding?

  • do you even have a clue as to what youre talking about? people get paid plenty of money for playing with acts that arent very well know. i have a teacher who just got done touring with a small time french pop band who made over $100,000 last year, are you telling me thats bad money? one of the bass instructors got offered a job 6 months ago to be a musical director in las vegas for one of the dance acts in the casinos and was offered $300,000 yearly.

  • theres plenty of money to be made in this industry, its just a matter of whether you have the skill to do the job and the drive to constantly hustle and find yourself jobs. now it sounds like your grudge isnt so much with MI as it is with people majoring in music in general because youre comparing MI with USC business school which have nothing to do with each other. when it comes to a music school in contemporary styles there is no comparison, MI is hands down the best school in the world.

  • berklee colledge of music shits on mi

  • sure, if you wanna be stuck playing other people music for the rest of your life. you can find a teacher for almost ANY style of music at MI. berklee focuses on playing jazz standards and classical arrangements.MI hooks you up with major gigs for the rest of your life. i auditioned for the offspring. i know a 19 year old girl who just got a gig straight out of MI making $60,000 touring with the supporting act of the jonas brothers.come talk to me when berklee hooks you up with a job like that.

  • Statistically speaking-most MI grads go on to accomplish nothing noteworthy. MI markets itself as this beacon of hope. Nothing could be further from the truth. And for the price you pay it's definitely not worth it. $40,000 for an ASSOCIATES DEGREE?!? That's ripping you off right there. Someone is better off taking private lessons at home. I wouldn't have much of a problem with MI if it didn't rip people off and had a higher success rate.

  • its 30,000 for an associates, thats standard for any college or university. plus its an amazing hands-on education. you will never really know until you go there. its insane how much talent comes through there. one of my teachers is touring with sheryl crow, one toured with planet x and plays with terri bozzio, one just got a job writing music for microsoft video games, one of my teachers is an editor for hal leonard which is the biggest music publishing company. just an insane amount of talent

  • you are so dum some of the best contemporary musicians have gone to berklee gloria estafan john mayer quincy jones just to name a few what has mi students done nothing there not one famous artist in that school

  • synyster gates from avenged sevenfold, paul gilbert, frank gambale, john frusciante and chad smith from the red hot chilli peppers. rivers cuomo from weezer, shredder dave weiner who also played with steve vai, rhianna's guitarist and keyboard player, dave ellefson from megadeth, jeff buckley, brain mantia from primus, justin derrico from the calling and pink, raphael moreira who toured with christina aguilera and pink, to name a few. do research before you make claims to which you do not know

  • my piont is that berklre is far more superior i researched this school and compared to berklee it doesnt even hold up look at the alumni berklle has had they have 3 times the amount MI has also read rivers cuomo bio its says berkllee college of music MI is like a community berklee is the harvard of contemporary music dont even argue with me you will get destroyed people all over the world know berklee is number one MI might be good berklee gets you places

  • where is berklee located? boston. MI? los angeles (hollywood). what city is the music industry centered around? los angeles. you cant tell me berklee offers more opportunity considering location alone. i know people who attended berklee who left because they felt the education wasn't what people say it is. one of my teachers at MI, allen hinds (who BTW is on youtube), graduated from berklee then went to MI later on and said theres nothing that you cant learn at MI that you can learn at berklee.

  • @sirus1987 Allen left Berklee after 1 year...my idea is if your only interest is jazz go to berklee if you want to play the guitar today (also playing jazz if you want) then MI is the chioce...also at berklee you have to stay 4 years and spend a lot of money...also consider LAMA

  • @sirus1987 and soon andy (me) will be with those great names :)

  • @sirus1987 dave ellefson never took a class at mi.

  • @sirus1987 what the fuck are you yappin about

  • @aerosmith425 If you're too retarded to read and understand the comments yourself, explaining probably wont help

  • @sirus1987 obviously i told you to fuck off cuz your gay

  • @aerosmith425 wow you really are retarded, you cant tell the difference between "what the fuck are you yappin about" and "fuck off cuz your gay"? Don't worry sad little retard, the Wizard of Oz might even have a brain for you too. Keep your chin up.

  • @sirus1987 you look like your from wizard of oz

fuck off buddy go listen to chrstiana agugaya

  • @aerosmith425 oh cool you replaced part of a word with "gay", takin in back to the 6th grade. That's pretty witty dude. I can see you're really terrible at this little insult game so I'm just gonna go ahead and end it now to spare you from any further embarrassment. A word of advice though, don't go around talking shit on the internet and then bring these 10 year old insults to the table. It makes you seem like a fucking idiot.

  • @sirus1987 im actually making a point your just acting like a smartass

  • @aerosmith425 you never made any point, only acted like a child

  • @sirus1987 well my point was your a dipshit and your just ranting about my comprehension

    whose the witty one now

go be a smartass somewhere else

  • My friend went to this school to improve his guitar skills. He now lives in a garage and delivers pizzas for a living. Lol.
