We'd kind of deserve it if they destroyed us for resources or some other practical reason, because that's exactly what we've done to every other species we view as inferior. Why shouldn't we expect they'd do this same? [badly worded]
if our planet have millions of species but only 1 is capable of building technology, odds are any other living organism we might find anywhere else is not intelligent as us, and maybe just some bacteria or vegetation. my personal opinion is our specie won't live long enough to find out, universe and galaxies are unstable, the sun might burn us all before we develop technology to get to further than where we've already listened with no results, but just an opinion I certainly might be wrong.
I seriously do not think we have ANYTHING Aliens would want. We do not see them and if they are here with us - they would not intermingle with us anyway. We kill with impunity, we desecrate our planet, we think GREED is good.............we do NOT live in harmony with our Creator. No, Aliens are too smart to have any truck with us Earthlings.
thier is evil in perspective, the biggest is indifference. Not the way we treat each other the way we treat a chicken or a fish, except in comparison to a minnow they would be greater then that measured stretch, so no qualms with hitting the delete key for those noisy humans, gone in a nanosecond
All this talk about whether aliens are friendly or not is pretty much moot. If they exist and are much more advanced...
We've been broadcasting ourselves since the 1950's, so they already know we're here. We can only hope Dr. Sagan was right and they do have a higher ethic that stops them from interfering with less developed civilization.
Indeed we are afraid of the wild card of alien discovery because, especially in the US, profit takes precedent over people, corruption is everywhere and this system is enforced by law and police, army, the works. Aliens, should they come here, are not under and do not "care" about law enforcement and political correctness more than superman would, because they can just do anything they like. This fear is sort of like a fear of a god and hell, punishment. Neil's mirror idea is correct.
The problem with Hawkings comparing aliens to how we treat ourselves is that it is entirely out of context. If you take the most vile criminal from the city, maroon him on a deserted island for 10yrs, and suddenly introduce another human being, he isn't going to be eager to kill the new guy. It would be the exact opposite.Considering the vastness of space, and the fact that intelligence is rare, even if we were the 10th intelligent race they found, the last thing they would want to do is hurt us
@doctadeath2020 but the only thing in our history that can be used as an example would be the English colonizing America. We all know what happened to the native Americans.
The strong will always exploit the weak - because they can. And any alien race that could travel to our planet in our lifetime will be far more advanced than us. I'd say our best bet is to just lay low. Know what they call an altruistic, caring benevolent species? They call it extinct.
You can see that advancement in Technology has only led to wars and destruction. This holds true since Stone Age, There is no reason to think Aliens come to visit us as friends, They would definitely expect something beneficial in return if they want us to be friends.
A Higher Technological advancement doesn't necessarily lead to Peace, Just look at the situation of our own species in 2012, Threatening each other with Nuclear annihilation. We are all humans and yet hate our own species..
evil in human sense only means that someone is selfish, a-social and rational at the same time. if resources are scarce, this means he will try to take them away from you, and probably hurt you in the process. but, if we encounter an alien civilization here on Earth, that means they have abundant energy sources (near c space travel, eg), and probably need nothing from us, other than information, maybe.
So if the oldest broadcasts are the first the aliens are going to pick up, it means they think the way humanity does interstellar travel is by angry husbands beating their wives to the moon.
@TOLTECAAZTECA Its not that people deny the existence of god - its that peoples arguments for it are lacking. I personally have seen nothing to indicate a god exists. Religious scriptures are not reliable since there are about 10000 religons all claiming to be true and all offering nothing but false assertions.
When you have found out how to travel between stars, you will have access to more resources, than could ever be spend. The atrocities of humanity, directed at alien cultures throughout history, has been motivated by greed. By the need to acquire goods and land. I just don't think an alien species would lack anything, resource/space wise. As soon as a culture leave its tiny floating island, it will have access to literally endless supplies... I don't share Hawkings pessimistic view on this.
I think aliens will absolutely be hostile. Why wouldnt they be? if they've encountered us, we're probably not the first, and if they realize that we'll just try to take their technology and kill them with it. Like every other race they've encountered, they won't even bother with diplomacy. Or if they're here for resources, they'll see how we use them and go "fuck those guys, we need that water. all they do is shit in it."
@shades2 I refuse to believe that if you're species that has mastered interstellar transport you would have any want or need to go cruisin for space burgers.
I think they just ignore us, as we generally ignore ants. They may collect some "samples" and that's it.There is not a reason for killing us we are not a threat and never probably will be. There is no any material which cannot be collected from asteroids closer to their home.
I very sure that they do have more important/interesting things to do than care about primitive violent being with silly religions.
I think Aliens would treat us like National Geographic treats nature. They would observe and record us to play to people on their home planet. Always being sure not to interrupt the delicate balance of nature. We would probably do the same thing. Heck we are even worried about bacteria on the rovers we send to Mars because disturbing its lifelessness would be considered bad.
Aliens might come because we have something they want. In which case they will not be friendly.
Aliens might come here because they think we are a threat to them in which case they will not be friendly.
Aliens might come here because they are curious and want to meet us. I suspect they will not like what they see and they will not be friendly for long. :O
@MsPerduta But you've got to consider that it is far more likely for aliens to find us if it has something to do with their continued survival. E.g they have run out of resources and need another planet to inhabit. The alien species would dedicate the effort of their entire species to do this.
On the other hand, the amount of effort spent on satisfying curiosity would be much much smaller.
Space might seem to have all the resources we could ever need, but inhabitable planets are probably few and far between. The moment our terrestrial broadcasts reach alien civilizations their conquistadors will be jumping on their space craft to come colonize us >:^(
i doubt aliens would enslave us.i might be too confident in humanity but i think we wouldnt enslave them.and i think aliens would be simmilar in their way of thinking to us as they have to have been trough technology and evolution the same way as us.i just think they will have a rationality level similar to ours.
@aillen8562 No, at the time their technology was better then Africans.
Does not make them better, second they was even with Asians, Only place Europe every took over in Asia was India, they lost every single other war, in every single other country.
Wars went on between Europe and Asia for the longest time, but neither side every really took over are could enslave the other side.
On top of this the reason the whites had batter technology then the Africans at the time is
@aillen8562 because the Europeans got lucky, Europe is a much better place for a civilization to evo. Africa is a much more hostile place, and the ground is a lot harder to grow things in.
Because of this the Europeans could settle down a lot easier, and are able to have farmers, which could grow enough for a good size population.
So instead of every one being a hunter, they could have a few hunters and farmers.
Which allow the rest to study other areas, to adv their civilization.
@aillen8562 This is the same with the Asians as well.
However Africa soil is terrible for the most part, and what does grow have low vitamin value. Which means they needed a lot more food gathers, to be able to keep alive.
Because of this they had very few people who could focus on adv their civilization.
Which at the same time, the Eur could have 1 farmer to every 100 people.
And ya know, I don't like sounding crazy, but truth has always been stranger than fiction and people have fallen into the trap of believing propaganda, but unable in this day and age to go and investigate the facts. You don't go and take one persons word on something, you don't go and believe what your government or television tells you. You are responsible for learning your own truth. The evidence is in your face and you just have to look. Gov & scientific websites have this stuff all over them
@DarthGarz prove me wrong! Your words, ideas and feelings have nothing to do with evidence. What is wrong with people are they really this sleepy? 400 billion galaxies, etc. but no other life? C'mon. Science has already proven that we're living in the 3rd & 4th dimension of space & time and there are many other dimensions. Science has already proven that we're in for some severe solar flares in 2012, they're calling a sun disease. Read up on the new science that's being hidden from us. Hello!
Aliens are the missing link in our evolution. Evolution is instantaneous and will happen again in 2012. The light from the sun will cause this. The sun will send heavy radiation flares at us and we will feel as if we're tripping on magic mushrooms. All of the dimensions will become known. Science has shown that our DNA has indeed changed and every child born today has this new DNA. Go learn and don't take just anyone's word for it. The truth is available if you take the time. Ascension. Peace!
Anyway, if the Aliens were going to wipe us out, they would have done it long ago. TPTB are going to try and say we're under attack, but they're lying and it's more likely that they'll be relieved of their power before any of this even happens. First disclosures, then the fed will crumble, the monetary system will fail, then our government will crumble. It's highly likely that most of this will happen in 2012 and if anything, the aliens are gonna say "it's about time you people woke up!!!"
@thesparitan , no, actually the people who don't believe are the insane ones, living inside a cozy little box of "I don't believe." March is disclosure month, so everyone will begin to learn the truth. Unfortunately, most people believe all the propaganda they hear on american mainstream tv instead of doing their own conscious research. You can't just say someone is nuts unless you can prove it. If you can prove I don't know what I'm talking about, then I'll declare insanity. Wake up peeps!
Consider the logical possibility that if a highly advanced race has already visited our planet that we could have been either nurtured or manipulated for centuries by them and just like a caterpillar, never once even realize it was happening. Think about it> A life form can be so advanced that we may not even recognize we're under it's very nose. Alien visitation may not be highly visible or like a violent take over. Life that advanced can have plans that we can't even begin to comprehend.
THE INTENTIONS OF THE INTERVENING EXTRATERRESTRIAL EXPLOITIVE RACES, WHO POSE AS SPIRITUAL GUIDES AND IN MANY WAYS MANIPULATE OUR VIEW AND INFILTRATE, CREATE HYBRIDS see also: ALLIESOFHUMANITY(.ORG)
If everyone thinks realisticly, then we all can see that we are all a mixed alien race, but we are the human race. It's only logical when we look at the differences in people all over the planet. We did not just evolve from bacteria- it's much simpler than that. With 7 billion people currently on this planet, you don't actually believe that all of these new souls have been manifested out of nothing I hope. New souls stand in line to get on this planet to be part of the cosmic events of 2012.
ET's are already here and have been since the dawn of time. Their ships travel through dimensions, not long distance space travel. We share dimensions with many beings, but we can't all see each other.....yet. They want us to wake up and become enlightened. The majority of all beings are good, then there is the dark side. We all have choices and can change this current paradigm with a unified consciousness. If they wanted to hurt us, they'd have done it long ago. Most of them are helping us.
Um, if we went and saw aliens on a planet we would be like "HOLY SHIT LIFE OMFG R U GUYS SUPRISED TO SEE US :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!" nope they be like fuck u and shoot us down :(
I always thought that if aliens were to visit earth then they would not wipe out the human race because they would likely see that humans are intelligent and have potential to have technology like theirs. They would not see humans as barbarians because humans are not barbarians.
I think its more likely that humanity will achieve interstellar space travel and attempt to enslave others. Our species is very tribal, and we're just getting over those prejudices in some societies, while in other societies the burn white hot. I think it's likely that we would merely shift our Us vs. Them behavior to an alien species. Our success at oppressing other species will be depend on our technology at the time.
Personally I think that the odds of a hostile species surviving long enough to achieve interstelar travel or inter-galactic would be very small. For them to achieve that kind of technology they need to be able to produce vast amounts of energy and they need to have science and rational thinking in first place. There would be no need to colonize us since there is nothing we could offer, we would just slow them down.
@itzahazylife then we should hope they have them"environmental conservationist Aliens " in their society too to let our ant hills survive the highways.
I think it totally depends on the history culture and state of their civilizations. If they are billions of years advanced they wont even care bout making contact. If they are millions of years advanced they might want to monitor us or learn more about us while being cautious. If they are at our level, simple they wont be able to make contact with us.
yeah but if they wanna use our planet for something, they might snuff us out the same way we snuff out thousands of ant hills when a construction company digs with a backhoe.
I am inclined to believe if there ARE aliens...they have already been here. What our history is in relation to ET's remains a big question. There is an obvious huge leap between humans and animals. What happened? Could we have advanced so far so fast on our own? I wonder
@Kirkunik1 we came down from trees, started eating meat to get enough energy to grow a bigger brain, hence developing the ability to observe, memorize and predict future meals and ask the quests what if , how and why.We had high fertility rates and were extremely adaptive, using technology instead of natural adaptations. And finally we didnt destroy the world during cold war.Thats a concise likely version of our history. No aliens needed.peace
I just saw a comment similar to my own had been made earlier and I apologize for repeating the notion. I will just mention that the exception to this culture of respect is those cultures which are motivated by religion.
@hrbear - Star Trek is a fictional entertainment series which, although it has been used in rhetorical discussion of Alien civilizations, cannot be considered relevant in the particular discussion comparing our own history to possible Alien behavior.
Star Trek was always more into sociology than s-f, but TNG included pretty well thought out ideas on both interstellar space travel and contacts between civilisations on varied stage of development. And, actually, there's no basis for anything better...
I find a slight problem with the hypothesis that suggests aliens will be hostile toward us because humans have shown such hostility to less advanced civilizations throughout history. The problem is that, as we have become more advanced and reason has come to dominate our culture, we have changed our behavior to an attitude of preservation and respect of life. If we are to assume that alien behavior is analogous to our own, it is fair to assume the more advanced species will be respectful to us.
@hungryman211 considering your point we still show cruelty towards other species i.e animals and plants.Just the fact that we tolerate other humans doesnt mean aliens, a completely different species and life forms will show similar acceptance, just as we dont towards other species like animals.
aliens will act like they please, because if they are smart enough to travel through space, they are smart enough to know that "good" and "evil' dont exist, or morality as well, its all human creations to try to understand our living and how we "should" act, but the reality is we really dont have a way nor a purpose on this planet, galaxy, or universe, we just are organisms in this planet acting however we like, and if aliens are smart enough they should know that...so let them do whatever...
We cannot know how they would be.... for example ... how do we feel when we crush a ant with our feet... nothing just go about the rest of our day... in relation what if the aliens that visited didn't know that they were destroying us..... then a better example would be if the aliens were the size of virus or bug .. and they used our body's as hosts and killed us without knowing or caring about us at all... its pretty cool idea to think about
i think saying barbaric is a little on the pessimistic side. i mean shit. u can get arrested for beating a dog in this country. for a bunch of primates, i think we've come a long way in the morality department..
@Shadowsolid An alien race may have motives far beyond our comprehension. To say they 'will not be evil' is a complete unknown. Perhaps wiping us out would not be thought of as evil at all. You can't pretend to understand the minds of an advanced race of beings. Your statement is retarded.
@Shadowsolid Do you have any evidence to support your claim? Or is it just a feeling you have about aliens? Its amazing to me your comment got so many thumbs up because its a blind assertion without any facts or argument. Its not even speculation maybe you should not be so certain and ego driven like the rest of the humans.
I think in order for aliens to evolve too much further than us they'd need to be more moral. Look at our own evolution. We have become more and more evil and good.
I don't know if we can become more evil or good and therefore hypothesize that at some point we will only evolve further through greater good. I think wisdom is gained faster (on average) for smarter beings. Understand?
@pokeshmon Hmm...that's not for sure. Many alien species in Star Trek have war between them, even if they are species of high morality. For example the Vulcans (the fully logical ones), were in war with the Andorians.
One day America or us The United Kingdom will run out of Oil or money to buy oil other resources will get low and we will be desperate and will just do the Normal and expected thing "Survive" at this point we wont care about other's we will invade the least powerful country and give them all we've got and then take their resources and this is what aliens would do and to be honest We cannot blame them its not even their fault its just how things are we would/have do the same, It would be unlucky
@BBryandownes yah i think the realy cheesy ones.Any intelligent life able to transport itself light years in a single lifespan in hostile space environment would have found ways of finding alternate sources or resources compared to what they need and are sparse.A friggin spaceship of aliens with tech 2 million years more advanced roaming hundreds of thousands of lightyears to come to a fukin small piece of rock is ludicrous. just the cost/benefit ratio is too awful for it to be feasible.
If another civilization was to come here it would not be to shake our hands Lol No we would be just monkeys. They would be here for one reason they need/want something from us Oil Water Gold Oxygen anything even things we don't know about and they would just take it they don't care about us lol IF YOU found a temple made from gold but was infested with small animals and insects would you think for one second hang on what about the insect's ha No you would just wipe them of the gold and leave
@whatacrank You envisioned a scenario replete with capitalistic overtones. The rapacious search for resources, the disregard for creatures in the way, the self interested exploitation of environments. Yes, it is possible this could happen if they think in such a crude capitalist manner. Who knows what type of culture these Aliens developed? It depends upon the conditions of their environment and the biological propensities they have. Maybe they would find interest in learning about "monkeys."
@whatacrank The only reason you are thinking that is because that's how we all treat each other. We exploit things to survive. You can not say the same for other life forms based on that they did not come from Earth but an entire different planet or even a different galaxy. @CompleteAbstractionZ is completely right. It all depends upon the conditions of their environment. Also I do not think they will need our oil if the life form can travel in space : P
Basically, Earth is at the top of the food chain. Our signals have reached Alpha Centauri by now which is 4.2 years away. Earth has been sending signals since 1910. Therefore, within the range of 50 light years there is no intelligent life that can contact Earth let alone travel here.
@westman63 50 light years? What is that compared to the 50.000 lightyear radius of the galaxy? And maybe there is life within the 50 light year sphere but the aliens aren't listening to some ancient radio frequencies they have no use for? Are we looking whether or not someone is trying to send a message to us via a bonfire and smoke signals?
@westman63 It could be that "they" just aren't listening. Or it could be that they are listening, but choose not to respond. Or it could be they are responding, but we are unable to recognize the response. Or it could be that in a 50-100 LY radius there is no intelligent life other than human, but beyond that the universe may be teeming with life. Your assumptions aren't very imaginative.
@playadominical To my opinion, there would be a weakening and distortion to our accidental emissions, such as FM, TV, VHF, UHF etc, in a long distance such as 70 light years. While we have difficilties to receive signals from our space probes from Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, which is too close. I agree with Stephen Hawkin's fears, and I believe that we must avoid extra terrestrial contacts, or to inform extra terrestrials about our presence. Else, the senario would be ala the movie "Independence day"
Mr. Tyson is inaccurate about our signal bubble. The first signal the aliens should encounter are radio signals from AM stations. It depends on the history in which I am not an expert. So I suggest that the bubble is more like 100 light years away.
The question of who was the first broadcaster in the US depends largely on how you define "broadcasting." In my opinion around 1910 is generally when the first radio broadcast began.
I disagree. Evolution shows that any species that would be able to conquer their own planet, likely teeming with life evolved to survive in hostile environments, would have to have endured violence and war on its own planet. Being the case, their planet may be useless to then, without the resources to survive. For that reason, if they recently found us, they attack us to take our resources. Since they evolve by the same process of NS, they may still be prone to violence. That is what S H meant.
what technology we have founded up to now. That has never happened to humans in history. This is the first time we process technology at atomic level. Meanwhile governments around the world are showing they cant handle all the society aspects technology offers us, and the economy is already disbalancing.
Were good at inventing someone and maintain a language for others to learn it.
Were less good at assembling everything we offer in one package so to guarantee that services maintain as they are
Then again, even if aliens want to conquer us. What would they want to do with earth?
It has been green and watery for atleast a billion years already. Just because we managed to maintain global airflight for 100years and have the ability to shoot skyscrapers in the air to position washingmachines in low earth orbit doesnt mean were somehow evolved from stupid to smart.
Were just as stupid as 300years ago. We just writted everything down from there on up to now so we can always reproduce
We see that these hostile human traits are processed in our evolution up to now, and almost all of them have led to wars up till now.
I dont think that the concept "war" or "conquest" is a common trait among extraterrestials. As it does not lead to it, as the same traits lead to own selfdestruction. If we do make it to the planets and even nearby stars, i think that any contact that we will ever make will instruct us to behave and be friendly.
hostility, is a prehistoric trait. Hostility is neccesary to hunt and survive. Hostility exists when disagreements occur, whom usually were developed because the ego of the 2 persons disagreeing persuit that ego without considering that its senseless.
The reason we fight is solly ment to survive as a species. In a systematic society that disconnects us from nature habitat we have to find ways around to fill our prehistoric ego, which leading way is to challenge others by discussions, fights
If they've come far enough ton conquer the galaxis and be super intelligent then they've also got an insane ability to destroy and kill, now this wouldnt work if they kept it up against eachother, kinda how we have wars and civil wars and conflicts etc on earth.
If we're ever gonna conquer the universe and spread out we need to be planetary , not countries and pitty litte disagreements.
I think alens are like us both good and evil and that they have been here on earth and talked to us. People from anicent times saw them as gods, because if you notice a myth from Ireland is somewhat the same as one that came from the South Pacific.
Other species may have different views on life. If aliens were to visit our planet they may be hostile or they may not be. It all depends on how they see life and death, and if they are here to help or conquer.
I see alot of unfounded BS here. 'they'?? wtf? you dont have any clues. You only have folklore and disinformation. The fact that these mannequins cause you to listen to them requires your subservience to a dead cow. "will aliens be..." PRESUPPOSITIONS cannot be addressed as they have convinced you of accepting something without verification. IE dont expect an email account to include the owner's actual personal data unless they are as dumb as you because you cannot make it a law. Verschtein?
They wouldn't treat us like we treat ourselves, they'll treat us like we treat other life forms. It is the nature of life to exploit other life. All species do it, and any species that doesn't goes extinct.
I hope we don't shock the aliens with our strange appearance of only having 2 manipulable limbs; and our sense organs clustered on our head appendage. Could they handle the fact that we speak through our air intake passage rather than glow and radiate like a cuttlefish?
We should bear in mind a few things, life only ever arose on Earth once, in 4 billion years.
Then bear in mind that intelligence like ours only arose once, as a random mutation.
It might be life is very rare and intelligent life extremely so, then it might also be that any intelligent life that arises is snuffed out considering we've only been around for an instant in terms of even the age of the Earth let alone the universe.
Are aliens even going to use radio signals? Besides, most life on this planet is predatory so when they come, lock up your daughters and start shooting.
ufos, religion, wars, suffering on earth, it alll adds up. A giant conspiracy is going on behind the scenes and the people are completely unaware of it! Just saying :) Call me crazy, but if it takes a crazy person to see closer to the truth then aithiests and religious nuts, so be it.
The truth is, aliens know we are here, they control this planet, they are the reasons of wars and suffering and why human beings are so damn ignorant. :) Earth is a place of harvest and a prison. Peace.
Life must always be hostile to one another because of one fact, life must defend itself or hunt in order to stay alive, so in every life form it must be in their genes (or whatever aliens have) to be a bit aggressive.
Still a intelligent race can't be so advanced that it can travel to other planets but still has a lot of wars so in conclusion they may be a bit aggressive but probably they will not attack us.
Simple truth: we do not know how they will treat us. We have no universally known and accepted senseof who or what they are. Under nearly any imaginable scenario, we should procede cautiously, guarding them from us and us from them, until such time as we know how to go forward safely, intelligently, and (hopefully) peacefully.
We'd kind of deserve it if they destroyed us for resources or some other practical reason, because that's exactly what we've done to every other species we view as inferior. Why shouldn't we expect they'd do this same? [badly worded]

The problem with Hawkings comparing aliens to how we treat ourselves is that it is entirely out of context. If you take the most vile criminal from the city, maroon him on a deserted island for 10yrs, and suddenly introduce another human being, he isn't going to be eager to kill the new guy. A Higher Technological advancement doesn't necessarily lead to Peace, Just look at the situation of our own species in 2012, Threatening each other with Nuclear annihilation. We are all humans and yet hate our own species..
forgottenmemories63 1 week ago
evil in human sense only means that someone is selfish, a-social and rational at the same time. if resources are scarce, this means he will try to take them away from you, and probably hurt you in the process. but, if we encounter an alien civilization here on Earth, that means they have abundant energy sources (near c space travel, eg), and probably need nothing from us, other than information, maybe.

So if the oldest broadcasts are the first the aliens are going to pick up, it means they think the way humanity does interstellar travel is by angry husbands beating their wives to the moon.

On the other hand, the amount of effort spent on satisfying curiosity would be much much smaller.

@DIVAD291 Let me ask you something, what happen when whites first meet Asians??
Mini wars started all over the place, both sides made laws so that if any of the other side enter their country they should be killed on sight.
What happen when whites meet blacks?? Not adv enough to fight, so turn into slaves.
What happen when whites meet american Indians??
All their land was stolen and today less then 1% of what their was of them still alive.
Whites killed them out almost.
nisteven 3 weeks ago
@nisteven so, are you tellling us that the white people are better than the others? if so, Hitler was right!?
aillen8562 2 weeks ago
@aillen8562 No, at the time their technology was better then Africans.
Does not make them better, second they was even with Asians, Only place Europe every took over in Asia was India, they lost every single other war, in every single other country.
Wars went on between Europe and Asia for the longest time, but neither side every really took over are could enslave the other side.
On top of this the reason the whites had batter technology then the Africans at the time is
nisteven 2 weeks ago
@aillen8562 because the Europeans got lucky, Europe is a much better place for a civilization to evo. Africa is a much more hostile place, and the ground is a lot harder to grow things in.
Because of this the Europeans could settle down a lot easier, and are able to have farmers, which could grow enough for a good size population.
So instead of every one being a hunter, they could have a few hunters and farmers.
Which allow the rest to study other areas, to adv their civilization.
nisteven 2 weeks ago
@aillen8562 This is the same with the Asians as well.
However Africa soil is terrible for the most part, and what does grow have low vitamin value. Which means they needed a lot more food gathers, to be able to keep alive.
Because of this they had very few people who could focus on adv their civilization.
Which at the same time, the Eur could have 1 farmer to every 100 people.
Which Africa had 1 to every 5 at most.
nisteven 2 weeks ago
@aillen8562 Last but not least the way the Eur beat the American Indians.
Was they gave them disease infested covers, and equipment.
Which they did on purpose, which killed off 2/3 of their population.
Which made them to weak to be able to fight back.
On top of all this plz answer my question, why do you think having better technology makes you better??

And ya know, I don't like sounding crazy, but truth has always been stranger than fiction and people have fallen into the trap of believing propaganda, but unable in this day and age to go and investigate the facts. You don't go and take one persons word on something, you don't go and believe what your government or television tells you. You are responsible for learning your own truth. The evidence is in your face and you just have to look. Gov & scientific websites have this stuff all over them
4evalovenpeace 2 months ago
@DarthGarz prove me wrong! Your words, ideas and feelings have nothing to do with evidence. What is wrong with people are they really this sleepy? 400 billion galaxies, etc. but no other life? C'mon. Science has already proven that we're living in the 3rd & 4th dimension of space & time and there are many other dimensions. Science has already proven that we're in for some severe solar flares in 2012, they're calling a sun disease. Read up on the new science that's being hidden from us. Hello!
4evalovenpeace 2 months ago
Aliens are the missing link in our evolution. Evolution is instantaneous and will happen again in 2012. The light from the sun will cause this. The sun will send heavy radiation flares at us and we will feel as if we're tripping on magic mushrooms. All of the dimensions will become known. Science has shown that our DNA has indeed changed and every child born today has this new DNA. Go learn and don't take just anyone's word for it. The truth is available if you take the time. Ascension. Peace!
4evalovenpeace 2 months ago
Anyway, if the Aliens were going to wipe us out, they would have done it long ago. TPTB are going to try and say we're under attack, but they're lying and it's more likely that they'll be relieved of their power before any of this even happens. First disclosures, then the fed will crumble, the monetary system will fail, then our government will crumble. It's highly likely that most of this will happen in 2012 and if anything, the aliens are gonna say "it's about time you people woke up!!!"
4evalovenpeace 2 months ago

AnteyPL 4 months ago
I find a slight problem with the hypothesis that suggests aliens will be hostile toward us because humans have shown such hostility to less advanced civilizations throughout history. The problem is that, as we have become more advanced and reason has come to dominate our culture, we have changed our behavior to an attitude of preservation and respect of life. If we are to assume that alien behavior is analogous to our own, it is fair to assume the more advanced species will be respectful to us.
hungryman211 4 months ago
@hungryman211 considering your point we still show cruelty towards other species i.e animals and plants.Just the fact that we tolerate other humans doesnt mean aliens, a completely different species and life forms will show similar acceptance, just as we dont towards other species like animals.

@whatacrank You envisioned a scenario replete with capitalistic overtones. The rapacious search for resources, the disregard for creatures in the way, the self interested exploitation of environments. It depends upon the conditions of their environment and the biological propensities they have. Maybe they would find interest in learning about "monkeys."
CompleteAbstractionZ 6 months ago
@whatacrank The only reason you are thinking that is because that's how we all treat each other. We exploit things to survive. It all depends upon the conditions of their environment. Also I do not think they will need our oil if the life form can travel in space : P
BBryandownes 3 months ago
Basically, Earth is at the top of the food chain. Our signals have reached Alpha Centauri by now which is 4.2 years away. Earth has been sending signals since 1910. Therefore, within the range of 50 light years there is no intelligent life that can contact Earth let alone travel here.
westman63 8 months ago
@westman63 50 light years? What is that compared to the 50.000 lightyear radius of the galaxy? And maybe there is life within the 50 light year sphere but the aliens aren't listening to some ancient radio frequencies they have no use for? Are we looking whether or not someone is trying to send a message to us via a bonfire and smoke signals?
byteresistor 8 months ago
@westman63 It could be that "they" just aren't listening. Or it could be that they are listening, but choose not to respond. Or it could be they are responding, but we are unable to recognize the response. Or it could be that in a 50-100 LY radius there is no intelligent life other than human, but beyond that the universe may be teeming with life. Your assumptions aren't very imaginative.
playadominical 8 months ago
@playadominical To my opinion, there would be a weakening and distortion to our accidental emissions, such as FM, TV, VHF, UHF etc, in a long distance such as 70 light years. While we have difficilties to receive signals from our space probes from Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, which is too close. I agree with Stephen Hawkin's fears, and I believe that we must avoid extra terrestrial contacts, or to inform extra terrestrials about our presence. Else, the senario would be ala the movie "Independence day"
hrbear 5 months ago
Mr. Tyson is inaccurate about our signal bubble. The first signal the aliens should encounter are radio signals from AM stations. It depends on the history in which I am not an expert. So I suggest that the bubble is more like 100 light years away.
The question of who was the first broadcaster in the US depends largely on how you define "broadcasting." In my opinion around 1910 is generally when the first radio broadcast began.
westman63 8 months ago

Were less good at assembling everything we offer in one package so to guarantee that services maintain as they are
Armigo91 8 months ago
Then again, even if aliens want to conquer us. What would they want to do with earth?
It has been green and watery for atleast a billion years already. Just because we managed to maintain global airflight for 100years and have the ability to shoot skyscrapers in the air to position washingmachines in low earth orbit doesnt mean were somehow evolved from stupid to smart.
Were just as stupid as 300years ago. We just writted everything down from there on up to now so we can always reproduce
Armigo91 8 months ago
and sometimes it goes as far as murder.
Armigo91 8 months ago
hostility, is a prehistoric trait.
Armigo91 8 months ago
I like to think about it in this way.

Aliens who are capable to visit Earth would be too Powerful. How could pure physical beings who can over come vast distance endure its journey?
What are the Basic Assumptions for such capable Aliens?

@BeardedBill86 Intelligent life has arose more than once.. neanderthal were considered intelligent as well.

Peace.

"Will Aliens Be Hostile? " is merely human projection

It would serve us right if extraterrestrials treated us the way WE -- have treated animals over the millenia.

@scruffylittlecat would serve us right if extraterrestrials treated us the way WE -- have treated some of our very own species.
