Just because there are less teams in the rugby world cup doesn't mean the players are any less elite sportsmen than footballers. Rugby players are highly trained professional athletes just like football players.

There are premier league equivalent competitions too like the super 15's and aviva premiership as well as international tests like the 4 nations, and the 6 nations. Rugby players aren't barbarians but on the whole good sports who maintain respect for each other despite the brutal nature of the game. Only the best Rugby nations win the same as with football
@sicoticosandro If the ball is on the ground you can and you can ankle tap a player with the ball in hand so yes. You can't knee or kick someone in the head though thats a foul just as it is in football. Having you're tongue touch another players balls in rugby is usually forced and unintentional unless the offending player is "a bit strange" mouth guards usually prevent it from happening anyway. However you still must be brave to play rugby. Face palming is also permitted.
@sicoticosandro I think you mean a slide tackle and yes you can its just not a very good choice of tackle unless the ball happens to be on the ground in which case someones probably going to try and dive on it and you'll kick them in the head and that will be a foul. Or if a player is holding the ball and running with it and you go for a slide tackle he's just going to jump over you and keep running leaving you lying on the ground regretting trying it. Different games.

the difference is most soccer/football games have these people diving around etc which is highly upsetting, point is almost all soccer games have diving and being gay, only european club rugby has fighting and guys being unproffesional, super 15, trinations and international test match rugby has almost no fights, basically rugby players, despite being way stronger faster and tougher and having too read a more difficult game are more professional as well as focus on actually playing the game.

It is common to see soccer teams relying there whole game to 1 or 2 superstar players, while in rugby it is really rare to see a whole team depending on how well a single player is doing.
I think if you showed some goals and tries the video would be a bit better to compare, reason being is that's the hardest thing to do in both sports. I much prefer rugby but not being bias. I think for both sports a lot of skill and a lot of tactics are used to score a goals and tries, you may say more individual skill is used for football, but rugby needs a lot of that too, maybe not nut megging someone, but other things like reading the other player.

@abihard I played soccer for 8 years, and am currently playing my 6th season of rugby union, while both are decent sports, i find it difficult to agree that soccer has more tactics than rugby. There are more rules in rugby, the tactics are far too complicated and subtle for the novice viewer to understand. The thing about getting paid more is trivial in this discussion, the player's pay is dependent totally on the club's revenue, based on advertising and sponsorships, based on crowds.

I disagree with the last few comments, rugby has lots of skill in it and is by far harder to play than football, it dose not just consist of size and strength, it is about finding gaps in the defence.
The general pro rugby argument is that rugby players are strong and fit.. blah blah. (what about the front row??) In reality around 70% of plays involve players running into each other to cross the 'gain line,' something that requires little skill and instead how heavy you are. The only piece of skill in this is picking out a 'smaller' player to run into. Proven by guys i know who after failing at footie done ok at rugger as they were big and therefore were automatically 'decent' players

In rugby, only a very few select players need that skill. Most players make due with good hands, passing and catching and tackling. Clearly the bigger you are the better you are at making an impact. But how many of the star rugby players are huge? Soccer has degraded to the point of trying to draw out the penalty.

There are premier league equivalent competitions too like the super 15's and aviva premiership as well as international tests like the 4 nations, and the 6 nations. Rugby players aren't barbarians but on the whole good sports who maintain respect for each other despite the brutal nature of the game. Only the best Rugby nations win the same as with football

You can't knee or kick someone in the head though thats a foul just as it is in football. Having you're tongue touch another players balls in rugby is usually forced and unintentional unless the offending player is "a bit strange" mouth guards usually prevent it from happening anyway. However you still must be brave to play rugby. Face palming is also permitted.

@sicoticosandro I think you mean a slide tackle and yes you can its just not a very good choice of tackle unless the ball happens to be on the ground in which case someones probably going to try and dive on it and you'll kick them in the head and that will be a foul. Or if a player is holding the ball and running with it and you go for a slide tackle he's just going to jump over you and keep running leaving you lying on the ground regretting trying it. It is common to see soccer teams relying there whole game to 1 or 2 superstar players, while in rugby it is really rare to see a whole team depending on how well a single player is doing.

I think if you showed some goals and tries the video would be a bit better to compare, reason being is that's the hardest thing to do in both sports. I much prefer rugby but not being bias. I think for both sports a lot of skill and a lot of tactics are used to score a goals and tries, you may say more individual skill is used for football, but rugby needs a lot of that too, maybe not nut megging someone, but other things like reading the other player.

@abihard I played soccer for 8 years, and am currently playing my 6th season of rugby union, while both are decent sports, i find it difficult to agree that soccer has more tactics than rugby. There are more rules in rugby, the tactics are far too complicated and subtle for the novice viewer to understand. The thing about getting paid more is trivial in this discussion, the player's pay is dependent totally on the club's revenue, based on advertising and sponsorships, based on crowds.

The general pro rugby argument is that rugby players are strong and fit.. blah blah. (what about the front row??) In reality around 70% of plays involve players running into each other to cross the 'gain line,' something that requires little skill and instead how heavy you are. The only piece of skill in this is picking out a 'smaller' player to run into. Proven by guys i know who after failing at footie done ok at rugger as they were big and therefore were automatically 'decent' players

In rugby, only a very few select players need that skill. Most players make due with good hands, passing and catching and tackling. Clearly the bigger you are the better you are at making an impact. But how many of the star rugby players are huge? Soccer has degraded to the point of trying to draw out the penalty.
