  • TRES JOLI MERCI MR SATIE!!!

  • beautiful sound.

  • SO BEAUTIFULLY MELANCHOLIC!

  • i am a dj and i mix and produce mainly dance music,i must admit that music these days has no soul.. i first heard this piece on my way to work one morning and have not forgotten it since. Beautiful, relaxing, stress releasing...

  • 10 people that rated down are 20 deaf ears put together.

  • @london201000 beethoven was deaf

  • beautiful and nostalgique piece. exelente

  • Really difficult to play, despite to the technical easiness. It requires such "balance", so to say.

  • @EmanuelaZucchi The most difficult out of the seven, I'm sure, but just like the others, deeply rewarding.

  • @TheWanderingNight Surely: each of them is almost a walk of life.

  • @IDontHoldTheTruth simpatia by remedios varo is the painting.

  • simpatia by remedios varo is the painting.

  • @IDon'tHoldTheTruth the painting is called Simpatia painted in 1955

  • IMO this way of playing Satie sucks

try and listen to Reinbert de Leeuw's way of playing this music (on Philips) and you will enjoy the real, non-conventional Satie's displaced rhythm

    let me know

  • @preadort After I read this I found and listened to Reinbert de Leeuw's recording of "Gnossienne No.1" and I really wasn't impressed. Tedious and plodding; mistaking length for emotion. I much prefer the recordings Distant Mirrors uses.

  • this is like a whole different song, sounds nothing like the first

  • How does one come to love this art of serenity? How do you see a human as pure and wonderful because they have this in their heart? Can you do evil after dancing softly to this passive peaceful evocation? I thought I knew you, because you knew of this also, how I never knew you! Fools have better motives, at least they can learn from folly and sorrow. To love this and to turn against it in your own heart, is not to see your own reflection in the mirror, but when you do you will close your eyes.

  • @onlylexus

Well said old bean! The words of a true poet. Cheers!

  • @onlylexus

Fucking 'ell, is this sodding Brian Sewell sprouting shit again??? ;-)

  • @onlylexus Deep, dude.

  • Unusual painting......but I like it.

  • In love with 1:47-1:50.

  • A fine performance of a still-increasingly familiar piece.

  • My favourite in the series! Excellently played! Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful touch, just beautiful!

  • perfetto

  • thank you...

  • @dano007100 Johny Mercer?, perhaps Johnny Mandel. You can buy the soundtrack of Being There in internet shops like moovies.com

  • To me, this is perfect. The tempo, the tone, and the gracious feel of the ornaments. Beautiful.

  • I can't even explain the wonderful feeling that washed over me AS SOON as I started hearing this song. There's a lot of good memories in those notes...

  • The more listen to this, the more I think "Wow, this guy invented jazz!".

  • @Erkyos if you like the jazz sound of this, check out Berg's Op. 1 - a few years after, but it REALLY sounds like jazz, before the fact of course.

  • Its not too good bot OK

  • @ttomace You're not completely mindless but going insane.

  • thanks

  • Who has painted these lovely paintings shown on all of eric saties youtube clips??

  • @fionaanderson1

Remedios Varo, a surrealist painter from Spain.

  • How beautiful!

  • @chwbby She was English not Mexican :-)

  • @kaioxygen Leonora CARRINGTON is born in England and live in Mexico and she's always live.

But she isn't the autor of frame, it's Remedios VARO (born in Spain and died in Mexico). The 2 are surrealist artist.

  • @jeanlouis13005 . I agree with you there completely

  • Can you tell me the names of the images?

  • I don't know the title of frame, but I think the author is Leonora CARRINGTON.

  • @jeanlouis13005 It´s Remedios Varo; read that damn description already, please.

  • @TheF1PinkVoltaDream I wasn't sure, it was similar. Thank you very much TheF1PinkVoltaDream.

  • My favorite piece

  • This serie you've done, with the images... Just perfect.

  • where can i get the sheet music for this online?

  • @bobbyr01 IMSLP

  • A light personal piece of melody.

  • Where is 6?

  • Its so beautifull. I wish the world would see this music's beauty and not the crap they listen to today.

  • @Darkrose40 I couldn't agree with you more.

  • why it's so beatiful?

  • Music doesn't have to be epic, when it's so deep like this.

It's simple, clean, subtile but loaded with emotions and feelings that touch you deep inside.

I love the Gnossiennes, but my favorite (which are also my fav. pieces of music) are the Pieces des froides. You must here them!

  • satie is a master! he puts so much emotion in it, although it it's so clear and simple.

  • for some rason, christmas comes to mind. or those weeks before christmas

  • sweet ,releasing tears

  • I love Satie! megawatcher, that's what Satie's music is like! my fav is Gymnopedia #1 you should check it out

  • im erick... w?

  • @balter21 Are you trying to say something?

  • The artist is Remedios Varo, spanish (also considered spanish-mexican) painter. I dont know the tittle of this painting, but yo should look her name up in google. See also Leonora Carrington.

  • I was wondering, where did you found that painting? I haven't been able to find a photo/copy of it on the net.

  • harmony as i never felt before

  • @SPAINole3 Heard?

  • @wowdanalise felling

  • great

  • So haunting I just watched the movie "How About You" with Vanessa Redgraves and many other find British and American actors in it. Eric Satie Gnossienne No4 was played in that movie I just love the beautiful sound of it so peaceful and yet so haunting

  • This is beautiful, but it makes me want to die, it gives me horrendous goosebumps as well. I feel so... tired, mad, sad, happy, (gets cut off by sudden goosebump spasm)

  • @megawatcher2 >>> Very moving. You should be on the stage lol.

  • This is my favorite Gnossienne. It's just so beautifully symmetrical.

  • If you read the Wikipedia biography of Satie, you'll read how his teacher at the conservatory described him as a "worthless" pianist. It goes on, however, to say that this teacher "with great insistence" told Satie (aged 14 or so) that his real talent lied in composing. I don't condone his teacher's brutal honesty; but find it interesting he could see Satie's great talent so early in this composer's life.

  • a gothic dance

  • every song i hear that is written by Satie is always nice and peaceful and relaxing

  • this reminded me bach-goldberg variations

  • Satie's taste in music never fails to satisfy me, nor does the artwork of Varo, i can only hope others agree.

  • you get it. The paints are amazing, as the songs...

  • where is the art work from ? its as beautiful as the song

  • @adddywalters

    Remedios Varo........

  • great tune! this was on the radio this morning so a great start to the day. Love the Varo picture also. You have great taste my friend.

  • This always reminds me of bright summer mornings. I love it.

  • I love Satie, and used to dance to this piece

  • I've never liked Satie, but I'm changing my mind...

  • Very sad ; (

  • fuckin' A this is great even for a punkrock lover

  • this piece is beautiful, so gentle and soft

  • This piece brings me out in goosebumps. It's noble yet vulnerable - Satie at his best in my opinion. Thank you for doing this.

  • Big influence on Yann Tiersen

  • cool :) I like the slides too

  • Excellent quality recording. Love the tone. Been a fan of Satie for many years and I love this gnossiene.

  • its profoundly beautiful

  • This makes me think that if I go outside, I will find a little magic cat - wait, I already have one, lol. Love it!

  • This says a lot to me - like.

It's as if one found happiness in sadness

I love this piece so much.

    Thank you, DistantMirrors.

Painting is "Simpatia" by Remedios Varo

  • I'm also wondering about the painting and the painter! Anybody knows??

  • Remedios Varo

  • Which painting is this?

  • simpatia

  • I love Margot for ever !

  • margot tenebaum? oh yes!

  • NO!

  • this is beautiful

  • i love it but this melody is almost the same in evry songs just modyfied ;D

  • No, I disagree. However, he has his own unique style which permeates all of his works.

  • the reverb is just right in this recording

  • this is my favorite Satie Gnossienne! Wonderful piece!

  • Can somebody please make a video game set in a world based on early surrealist artwork, dad, theatre de l'absurde etc. ...

  • This is about as good as it could possibly get. Esquisite! Eight Stars!

  • best youtube ever. nothing happens. the way it should be. where's the damn sixth star on this thing.

  • I love this melody. I hear this and imagine it being morning, watching the sun rise while sitting atop a hill.

  • kind of weird but i feel the same way.... morning, something pure and brisk. I love it

  • sorry if this has been asked already but what is the name of the picture? (i know it's by Remedios Varo)

  • I think it's "simpatía"

  • let me check i have a book with that paint

  • sorry, I see it already; Remedios Varo.

  • What kind of picture is visible under the music? (i like it.)

  • It's as if one has found happiness in sadness...

  • that's the best way to put it :)

  • remedios varo? I guess she was mexican, like frida khalo

  • Spanish

  • Man, and those drawings? of who they are? :) nice day!

  • Thank you very much. I did not know her.

  • i can't get over how gorgeous this is

  • i think you need to go see a psychiatrist, how can a song have a sexuality? you need some major help. I seriously hope you're not an adult, because you act like a 5 year old using the word "gay" in such a manner that makes no sense.

  • it's sad but merry at the same time

  • sort of a happiness in the fammiliar feeling of sadness

  • The painting is by Remedios Varo

  • My favourite pieces from gnosienne series.

  • I don't remember seeing the painting before, whose work it is?

  • Hi Theodora,

I just wondered the same thing, I think it is Heronimus Bosch.

My 2year old son loves this and just fell asleep.

    regards Tjeerd

  • Thank you, very much.

    Kind regards.

  • The painting here is by Remedios Varo. She was from Spain and part of the surrealist group in Paris (Breton, Dali, Magritte, etc.). I like her works a lot.

  • Me relaja tanto...

  • What is the paining in this video? I like it.

  • Madly in love with this! to combine the three, Satie, this piece and Remedios Varo!

    Thank you!

Bravo

  • The most beautiful and haunting of the Gnossiene movements - and the best recording.

    Thank you for posting.

  • My sentiments exactly :)

  • Thank you for replying.

  • May I know where the picture came from?

  • It's a painting by Remedios Varo

  • Mmm loove this one..

  • My favorite one!

  • Erik Satie is like a kiss from poetry itself.

  • Satie's music was timeless. A true artist who created unique music that is impossible to pigeon hole.

  • it is a great pleasure to listen les Gnossiennes de Satie, Erik was an alien:)))) from the future...

  • Érzett, hideg lépés. Remegek.

A szemeim... a szemeim úsznak. Őket elrontják a szemhéjak,

  • Thanks to John Cage I learned to appreciate Satie. Cage opened my ears. This is so beautiful

  • you are one of the very few people i have stumbled across on u tube who not only understands the significance of John Cage but also appreciates him. Truly refreshing!

  • enjoyed visiting this... thank you!
