@The1234fivesix Sorry for my error, or should I say by "both" my errors! I'm also sorry that I'm too old to defend myself against an "information champion" such as yourself! I initially enjoyed our conversation. I wish you well.
@The1234fivesix Well, I've got 6 years on her, and guess that's a plus! I'm thinking at least one of them is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
Actually, Maria and Jean-Pierre had one daughter, Tina Aumont, born in 1946, who died only recently, in 2006! She lived to nearly 60 years old. Tina appeared in several films in the 1960s including 'Modesty Blaise.'
@The1234fivesix And here all the while I've been saying "Novenas," for their swift transition to a kindly afterlife! Grateful for the information! Given that I'm almost as old as "Fire Mountain," I think it was wonderful Sabu who, upon seeing Maria said, "She look like Tolea but have mean face!" Am I at least close?
Montez made SIREN OF ATLANTIS after moving to Europe with her husband, Jean-Pierre Aumont, AFTER her initial Universal period. This was in the late 1940s. Many directors wanted to work with her, including Max Ophuls and Orson Welles. SIREN has the look and feel of film noir, but is set in the middle of the desert, where the lost content of Atlantis is located! Based on L'ATLANTIDE, popular French novel.
@The1234fivesix What a unique concept! Plop an underwater city in the middle of the desert! Maria chose well with handsome Jean-Pierre Aumont! Can't wait to get the DVD in the mail of this potential winner! May be wrong on this, but I recall hearing that the beautiful daughter of Maria and Jean-Pierre died very young, as did her mother. I'd a friend who was staying in the same Paris hotel who stated that he was bathing at the same time lovely Maria died. Don't think I'd like that as a memory!
One of MM's most amazing works, SIREN OF ATLANTIS, is now available on DVD. This film actually originally was called 'Atlantis, the Lost Continent.' Filmed in stark and stunning black and white, it really showed that Montez was an extraordinary personality for the cinema.
@The1234fivesix Thank you so much for this information! To date, I'd never even heard of this film. Depending on the year, hope she wasn't too upset by the black and white! I think she really loved the title: Queen of Technicolor! What we won't do for our art! Would love to send you a clip from the above, but guess that would be almost as frightening as a visit to "Fire Mountain!"
COBRA WOMAN actually filmed at Laguna Beach. Andy Warhol once identified Maria Montez as the first Method actress. There is the story that when she was playing Queen Talia, she came down to the Universal commissary still thinking she was the queen! Now THAT's acting.
@The1234fivesix She was one of a kind, and really quite lovely! Supposedly one of her quotes: “When I look at myself, I am so beautiful I scream with joy!” Her country, the beautiful Dominican Republic, named an airport for her in the southern part of the island in her birth city, Barahona: María Montez International Airport! The code is BRX! Thanks so much for your wonderful comment!
One of the screen's most dazzling beauties. I love this type of movie. I watched The Prince of Persia : Sands of time.....the movie was good, but would have been fantastic if only Maria Montez could have appeared in it.
@Rusty350 She has no equal! All her movies, though a little over the top, were always entertaining, and she really was a beauty!! Thanks for your comment.
This is my favorite Montez/Hall film, as I remember Montez plays twins one evil, one good, Hall mistakes the evil one for the good one in this scene, Sabu is in the cast, and Lon Chaney jr.
It looks like the lagoon at the L.A. County Arboretum- all I can think of is alligators and pond scum- the kissing scene was in a studio tank, no doubt.
After all, this was "Universal!" Cant forget the spinning globe, and tiny plane circling the star-studded earth! Still beats much of the computer-generated crap of today. Youre right about the Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. Ms. Montez still thrilled millions! Think her early "almost post-war films" were what many people enjoyed seeing. Cant speak for The Halston Insta-Dry Outfits. Honestly, how many women have an airport named after them? Check it out: BRX! Will write again soon my friend.
Gotta love her: She's so Jive! By the way, had any of the ladies commented on the "less than usual" pond-swim, they would have had to walk the "fire of everlasting life!" This is also known as jumping into a large volcano. Maria didn't play...
no worries. MM lives!

Incidentally, Maria also was buried at Montparnasse, not Pere Lachaise!

You can find pictures of Tina Aumont everywhere on the 'net. She is buried in Paris' famous Montparnasse cemetery.

I have visited fire mountain. It is made of cardboard and lights. None of the true inhabitants of Cobra Island actually were sent there.
