Fall Out boy's classification is Pop-Punk (translation: Backstreet boys with electric guitars.) I understand and accept that people like this music, but don't try to tell us these people are talented because they can play three powerchords over and over again.
Im assuming you dont know much about music theory because if you look at the sheet music, this song is ridiculously complex. The Am C F E is actually a very powerful chord progression (also used in The Offspring song hammerhead). In addition to the bass chords, the melodic riff is very classical, and its complimented by a chucked 8th note counter melody. Finally a rhythmically diverse vocal melody that rivals most rap songs is layered on top. Dont try to judge musical talent on image.
Music theory or not, it is still a very simply written song. I do get the point about the AM C F E chord progression, however that is still not that hard to play for any decent guitarist. And while they may have written a "Diverse vocal melody", writing has no effect on the live performance. their singer is clearly incapable of singing something you don't write it. I, personally, don't like Fall Out Boy's music, but I've been to concerts where they have played. And I must say, no matter the fact that I don't like FOB, Patricks has some of the best vocal cords in the music business, live or on CD.

i don't know why everyone has to be so hard on them, i mean, it LIVE for goodness sakes. in the album everything was digitized to fix any flaws that were made, i personally don't think that they can play it perfectly EVERY time. and also, their behavior is part of what makes them, them. and you can never replace those guys.

I agree, Pattrick its good singing live, but sorry, i see no real diference in his voice between studio sound and live sound. It sounds perfect to me. :)

Dude, really...There are a lot of words in this song..I'm surpised he nailed the 'pre-mondannas of the gutter' part..It was really good, I think. And Pete, he wasn't singing, he was saying that in a talking voice, and he was out of breath, obviously. You see him spinning? I sure as hell did.

i don't know why everyone has to be so hard on them, i mean, it LIVE for goodness sakes. in the album everything was digitized to fix any flaws that were made, i personally don't think that they can play it perfectly EVERY time. and also, their behavior is part of what makes them, them. and you can never replace those guys.
(p.s.- i've seen them i concert and they sounded great)

It's very difficult to sing all those high notes and so loud too. I'm surprised he pulled it off without his voice cracking.

I agree with Zynuxclux, the notes during the chorus are too high for most singers, I think he sings a A5, during almost all the chorus and when he shout "god damn arms race", and like I said, most singers can't sing it ONCE, but he shout it during the entire song, so I conclude that Patrick can't be human :P

In my experience, Awards shows never have great sound. If you compare this performance to one from their own tour, they have specialists that actually tune the 'tars and and stuff, where as this would be organised by the awards show organisers themselves.. etc
