To all of you absolute tossers who are going on about this guy's technique: Samuel Barber's pieces are supposed to sound like this - distressed, dramatic, moving, emotional, unusual. And as a pianist myself, surely playing the piano is all about interpretation? What would be the point of learning how to play if we all played each piece exactly the same? Arsenti brings to the piece raw emotion and creativity...
For you commentators who have negative things to say, I think you're missing the
point of the performance and the nature of music itself...suggest you all get a better attitude and stop the "dissing" This guy is magnificent, poetic with great technique that you probably wish you had. Why don't you have the guts post your own 3rd rate amateur performances. Peace and Love to All. julian
Hey man, don't listen to all the bs expert musical interpreters that have probably never made a recorded stage performance in their life. Why are so many pianists such egomaniacs? For what it's worth, I think you're performance was really amazing, clear, and powerful, and I hope to be as good as you someday.
No no no no no no. Beginning and end acceptable. What the F was up with the ridiculous nuance mid-stream? So much beauty was lost while he was trying to apparently make a point. I know, I played the thing. If you want proof I'll get it for you.
I've been playing Barber's pieces for years, but this guy smokes. He is fantastic. This is how Barber is supposed to sound; period. This fugue is brutal intellectually.
Please do a recording of Souvenirs - I love "Galop", but it's easy for you; you could do justice to "streets of Laredo" which is what the third variation is based on, in souvenirs. But you're the master so please do a piano transcription of Elliot Carter's "Minotaur" !
This is better than the recording I have of the work. Many people who know of barber only know of the Adagio for Strings... but it was this work that got me to first fall in love with not only Barber, but 20th century music as a whole.
I need some help with technique.I recently discovered kapell and lipatti not to mention this guy.I'm sixty years old so there is not much time. I would really appreciate a buzz.

maybe you should listen to Roberto Poli's version of the Chopin B minor Sonata.
