When I listen to any Gouryella track, I only really hear Ferry Corsten. Tiesto's influence... well it just doesn't seem to be there really.

As for x or y "killing" trance or whatnot - well maybe, though there's still plenty of great music being made in the genre. For me, the world changed after 9/11/01 and music in general and trance in particular reflects this. The hope and optimism of music like Gouryella's seemed to fade away and be replaced by something altogether less positive.

It wasn't Tiesto Oakey and Buuren that destroyed Trance, but the fact that Trance hit the mainstream and we got alot of pop shit from Madonna and terrible Eurobeat groups like ATC, DJ Sammy, Flip'n'Fill and stuff like that, also alot of the bad stuff wasn't even Trance but Garage, House and Techno, but since Trance was big in that era, such bad eurobeat style music got associated with Trance.

Trance Bandwagon hating goes well beyond the big Dutch DJ's, Trance itself is simply a dirty word.

As long as there is a shrine in the middle of a dance floor where they can stand and fist pump into the air they are in their element. When the thrill became the "center stage" and not the music the heads swelled and the egos ballooned and thats when Trance forever changed, sad as it is.

@holodock Yes this is Light and Shadow, sort of. I own the Vangelis CD but I never made the connection when I first heard this song. Then someone mentioned it to me, and I played the 2 tracks and wow, it turned out to be the same tune! It's hard to tell obviously because the "orchestration" is so different.

Trance has lost it's magic. Tracks like this is purely what trance was meant to be in my mind. When someone asks you what trance is, this is a prime example of trance.

You listen to the newer trance these days and it doesn't even come close to this. 90% of the tracks I have found can't even compare to this. Good trance is a rare thing to find these days. Aly & Fila and a few other tend to do an alright job but, even the few tracks by Gouryella group are probably the best trance tracks even now.
