Do you know where I can find a tutorial on how to export my final product? Is it possible with rewiring reason into logic to export a full track for itunes play ?
Thanks alot for your tutorials, they are very informative and well executed.I have quick question: how do u go about closing, reopening, and bouncing your projects when you rewire? do you simply save two files for the same beat (i.e. one for your logic file, and one for the rewired reason file)? when you bounce the final production do you have to do anything with reason as well, or does it finalize it with the reason parts automatically? i presume if you reopen a project to edit, you open 2 files?
Great tutorials, still absolutely relevant for reason 5 and logic 9 although the hardware interface has changed a little in R5. Your slight burst of madness whilst trying to arrange the ext midi tracks in Logic made me chuckle. I'll put it down to it being 1am.
Hey I'm having trouble with the MIDI armed in Reason as well, I think, but I don't know what MDI cable symbol you're referring to.. I tried disabling the one in the lane next to M (mute) and S (solo), but that didn't work!
i got a problem when load up redrum (stereo/3-4) when i use a instrument track (stereo which is 1-2) in logic it still triggers the redrum on top of my logic instrument please help me out
thankyou soooo much for ur time and effort to make these videos.....im new to logic and previously used sonar....3 weeks from uni tech assignment deadlines you have saved my bacon!!!! cheers :-)
Actually, if you really *want* to use the effects in Reason, you could still slice your audio file into several parts say one (or more) bar(s) long and integrate them each via the NN-19 or the NN-XT. Just check that the BPM of the audio file match those in Reason.
It takes time to prepare, but it works quite well. Don't forget to cut properly!
ey bro awesome work man...i recorded a dr rex loop onto logic but the signal is very weak...i tried raising the gain on the track but its still weak..any suggestions??
Hey, i got a question. I need to know if its possible to make what's passing trough an aux channel to go to an audio track and record it? i.e. I have a full session on reason and i want to record every single instrument on logic so i can modify them as audio waves and also record some guitar on it. Hope you can help me.
Hi guys. Firstly, dude these tutorials kick ass thanks for putting them up - they've helped me a lot. I have a bit of a problem though. After rewiring reason into Logic I've put down a contaminator within Logic and it record fine. However, i can't hear it during playback. Any ideas why?
Thanks for the great tutorial! Has helped loads, but im also getting the problem of playback from reason simultaneously with a logic instrument, and i don't know where the MIDI symbol is.
all three rewire videos helped me out tremendously, i have many tuturials but they cover rewire with logic 7, this one in particular is the one I needed to see, since the beat I am working on has already been written in reason, thank you so much
thank you so much for the tutorial. I have a question; When I play another instrument in logic that's not from reason, the instrument in reason also plays wich is very irritating.. what can i do about it?
Sounds like you have the MIDI armed in Reason too. Go to Reason and make sure the MDI cable symbol isn't on ANY track - I always create a blank track and put it on there.
What's happening is that you're playing the Logic instrument but also playing the Reason instrument too.
Is there a way to automatically route each redrum track on it's own channel (not just one stereo track) in logic? I may want to individually adjust say a bass drum sound...
Yes there is - just route each output of the individual Redrum channels into the Rewire channels at the top. You can then use Logic's FX/EQ etc to tweak the sound :)
Dude... Thanks so much. You have helped me out more that you can ever understand. It is nice to see an unsterilized tutorial where everything runs super smooth. Keep me posted on what you are doing.
Great video - can you export it with the drums compressed in reason? Or Piano with Reason reverb? I could not get sound if I ran the output of Dr. Rex to the compressor - then the compressor out to the advance re-wire midi channel. Please let me know. Thanks,
Hi. Yes - you should be able to export your Reason sounds with Reason FX through Logic. I have done that in the past as I think the Reverb unit is great, however I would strongly recommend Logic's FX over Reasons! Dan
THANKS this is extremely helpful! I'm having a hell of a time using reason synths in logic. I can hear and play them, but can't record them to an audio channel.
When I tried to Midi over my drums from Redrum, the file was blank into Logic?? How do I take a Redrum pattern in Reason into Logic? I know the creating of channels, but no actual template shows in Logic once the transfer of Midi goes through....
a question please: when I launched reason 3 as a rewire plug-in in Pro tools 7.4 , it works fine when reason is playing like Dr Rex, but when I play my midi, Pro Tool is not recognizing it..(when reason is on standalone my midi works fine!!) Can anybody help me here pls!!!
it's nice to see even the teacher struggle with some things here and there! Ha.. much appreciated on the tutrorial. I'm day on Logic and can already make tracks thanks to your help!
Erm yeah. My mac is shit. It freezes when i run both programs. So i might have to upgrade the RAM and Processor. At the moment i have an Imac, 2.66GHz, 2GB Ram. But somehow it still freezes at times and fucks up.
Annoying.
But erm yeah How do i Bounce to an mp3? Will it bounce all the instruments aswell as the Reason Ext instruments?
you convinced me so much more to get a mac + logic. i love reason and knowing it works so well with logic makes my life complete. thanks for the videos, all 3 were great!
yeah I guess (hey thanks for the quick responses). isn't there a way to get the real audio from reason into logic? I thought I saw a tutorial on that before, but I can't find it now. are you familiar with how to do that and if so can you help me out with it.
but if you were going to do that...what would be the point of even doing anything at all in reason? I mean why would you write songs in reason, then import the midi file into logic only to give it logic sounds.
well, I admit it's not something that would be used very often. BUT you could, for example, want to give it to someone to do a remix - but they might only have Logic. Therefore the MIDI file from Reason would probably be just as important as any audio exports. At the end of the day, it's just an option - but one that's useful to know. :)
but you do still have to use reason even if you import the audio (or midi) files into logic. You still need reason to be open cause then how else would logic know what midi instruments to play?
that is why we need to be able to get the real audio into logic and not just midi information if you don't want to use reason at all.
you could writ the tracks in Reason, import the MIDI file into Logic and then assign those tracks to Logic instruments, meaning that you don't have to use Reason's sounds.
with rewire..how do i get reason to actually recorded into logic..so i dont have to open reason all the time? do i just have to import the reason midi file?
importing the reason midi file would allow you to use the notes from Reason and then assign them to instruments in Logic. This would mean you didn't have to use Reason any more. But ask yourself - why bother with Reason in the first place?
If you want to use tracks recorded with Reason instruments, I would personally export the audio loops from Reason and then import them into Logic.
Rewire works when you want to use sounds from Reason, otherwise there is little point. :)
i followed your instructions...i got the sounds from reason using rewire..but i have other plugins, they show up on the vst list in logic and i get them to record...but reason intruments record but i dont hear any play back...that all i need to know for now thanks... love the videos by the way keep it coming.

Yup you can do that - just set the Output of that Aux channel to its own Bus, and set the Audio channel input to the same Bus number.
Should work fine :)
