Spencer Sotelo has an amazing voice.. Both growling and clean parts are heavenly in their studio songs.. I think Spence is awesome live too, but his clean parts could be better live :-) In this song, he skipped the clean part when his voice goes so damn high, and growled instead.. I think that was a smart move :-)

@basplya04 If you aren't a troll, then to explain: Djent comes from the sound that down tuned guitar strings make when they aren't too floppy (they are high enough gauge of strings that they stay tight despite being down tuned). So yes, there is some Meshugah flavor in there, but perhaps "rip off" is not an appropriate term.

If anything I think the instrumentation has some roots in Dream Theater's odd time while grooving (all the guitar players use John Petrucci's signature pickups...).

It's becoming more widely accepted as a term to describe metal music that features the "djent" chord, polyrhythmic grooves, and picking the open note on the lowest string of the guitar so hard that it goes sharp. It's actually pretty useful to label it since the genre's growing so quickly, it's just one of those terms that's going to stick. Deal with it.

I met these boys in person a while back and I don't think they could possibly have been nicer or more fun in person. Truly amazing band right here. One of a kind. I love Spencers style and as a singer/screamer myself i know how hard that can be on your voice. He does an amazing job live. The studio version of the songs stretch vocal capabilities beyond realistic. We all enjoy the songs on the album but just remember that its being fine tuned by a computer!

Spencer performers pretty well here actually. Reworked Jetpacks are also cool, but i can't say the same about the debute Periphery album.

Maybe Spencer grows as a singer, maybe it's because Misha wasn't involved in vox recording. Either way, hope the upcoming albums will be mindblowing and asskicking.

@MrIbanez He said in an interview that that's the highest note he's been able to hit, but he's only just managing it, he still finds it difficult to hit it live. You get surprisingly short of breath on stage, so I think he screamed to avoid his voice cracking and him embarrassing himself. It is a shame though.

If anyone moans about his vocals live... think about it. They tour, which strains your vocals over time. In the studio he had time to do like 100 takes to get it perfect (and jake bowen said in an interview he can hit all the notes on the album, they arent pretend). So i think over the months he has progressed and integrated with the band. I saw them in feb 2011 and Spencer's vocals were off the charts. Amazing.

While doing this, the PA-system is a rental, controlled by no one related to the band.
