The colorado river created the salton sea in one of its course shifts. The sea would dry up over time and then be refilled again when the river changed its course. This has been going on for thousands of years. It's no longer possible or very unlikely to happen again.
The new river was created by the colorado at that time but it is now the most toxic river in the western hemisphere and it runs straight into the salton sea. When the sea inevitabely dries that land will be toxic.
@coldbluerain I have the same strange desire! It's so very depressed & so beautiful all at the same time. Can the area ever regain the resort status it had in the 50's? The old club restoration is a start, I hope other developers join in.
And with all that water in the middle of the desert, I can only think of 1 thing to cool down, kitesurfing.
