  • i always loved the cheering at the end, the man voice in particular.. like he could not wait to get that "yay!!" out. i would do it too very loudly lol

  • All I'm missing is a big bowl of cereal...

  • still remembered this video for a while!

  • This scared the begeezus out of me as child! Whenever the "I" screamed. I'd hide.

  • Hehehe... it's so endearing and cute when he sniffs it :3

  • There's something special about this!

  • Wait a minute, I'm confused...which letter does this clip represent?

  • Ok I am not spooked any more. The Capitol I is saying Come be a part of me.You are not small just because you are a dot.You are a part of me in lowercase form.Do not be afraid.

  • @lovemeg5186

Hey, I like your spin on this!

  • i like the part when it said "i"

wasn't that like the best part??

    thumbs up if you agree

  • I guess the 'i's have it!

  • lol, omg, lamo.

  • Who is that saying I?

  • lol, omg.

  • I!!

  • everyone who agrees this clip should stay up say "I!!"

  • I can picture the I saying I so many times he screams "I dammit, I!!"

  • That's exactly the impression I got from the last few times the letter yelled at the dot...the voice actor thinking, "If this weren't a kid's show, that 'I' would be cussing the dot out by now."

  • This totally creeped me out!

I would hide behind my B&W TV when this came on. Scared the dickens outta me!

  • The dot basically reduces the capital I into a lower case letter. No wonder he resists. Then at the end his voice goes all submissive. WTF kind of lesson is this for little kids? And don't think they don't notice stuff like that. KIds are better at abstract thought than adults are.

  • Well you see, this animation is actually a parable, illustrating that need for one to resist the demands of the 'self" and to accept the dominance of the Buddha-nature, which hovers above your passionate "Ātman" nature like a celestial guiding orb, and which will otherwise hop around like a silly beach ball annoying the piss out of you until you submit.

    Or something like that.

  • The Tao of Sesame Street? *snrk* :-)

  • I think that, in terms of this little movie, the dot was supposed to be the underdog

  • hehe FUNNY one love the sound EFX =)

  • This annimation was created by Fred Garbers

  • I used to go crazy when this one came on watching Sesame Street as a kid.

    Big, scary, noisy "I".

  • I

    I

    I

  • i good letter

  • Does anybody remember that one about the (I think) letter "I" where it was a block or brick and it went through the heat and water or something and then was lifted upright...I don't know...I barely remember something like that.

  • That would be the infamous "Sesame Street I Beam." It's here.

  • Sounds like the guy from Rammstein.

  • Which reminds me, the sound effects in this sketch sound like things you would hear in industrial music.

  • LMFAO.

Not really =/ if it did, the guy would have a German accent xD

  • I HIGHLY doubt its the guy from Rammstein!!! (ROFL) Although he would probably like frightening children. :-\

  • When I was little and stupid, I used to think that one of the people cheering at the end said "J"... not "Yay". LOL!

  • Me too. At first, I thought it was "Yay", but then I got to thinking, does that guy actually say "J", since it's the next letter in the alphabet?

  • I'd vote for "Yay" because (1) other voices were cheering, and (2) the letter didn't morph afterwards.

  • That person shouts the letter "I" makes me laugh.

  • I always loved the big "dong" the dot makes when it jumps up. Only on vintage Sesame Street will you see a letter represent a learning tool for writing, and also used for some emotional feature (in this case, over coming your fears and trying again.)

  • "i" am ironman!!!

  • at least the dot stood its ground

  • Small wonder generation X ppl like me are so screwed up... seeing it after 35 years, its just strange.

  • what about the shape skit where the shape finds its hole and finds it at the end and it blinks; i want to see all 4

  • creepyy

  • I think they cheered because the I said it quietly

  • OK Im spooked.

  • this cracked me up when i was little

  • Me, too-- I'm cracking up now, LOL... "I" sounded SO defeated at the end. "eh, hell with it... i."

  • I still don't understand the cheering at the end.

  • Prolly cuz the lower part of the "i" let the dot win, I think.

  • It was i.

  • It is interesting to hear the body of the "I" deadpan "I" once the dot gets on top, as though resigning to defeat.

  • kind of creepy

  • What the hell was that?!

  • It was i.

  • This didn't freak me out as a kid but I could see with that big voice and metalic sound how it could scare someone. The only thing that scared me on Seseme Street was Bert and Ernie's tv flashing H. I don't know why but that one freaked me out.

  • That seemed to feak out a lot of people - I don't know why, though - I thought it was wierd, but not scary; appropriate you bring it up - after Ernie got into the TV & fixed it, pulling out the stuff that was making the TV flash "H" (the hamster, the hammer, etc.) remember what the TV did next?

  • No I don't please refresh my memory.

  • Ack! You remember that skit enough 2 B frightened of it but not remember the end OR detail? OK, after Bert complained that his pigeon show was interrupted by the H thing (interesting cause in the 70s, & at that age, 1 really believed stuff like that was possible) Ernie opened up the TV & found the problem: inside were things beginning w/H: a Hamster, a Hammer, & so on(don't remember XACTLY everything, but Ernie pulled out a lotta 'H' things out of that TV)

  • After that, they turned the TV back on again, & the TV was doing the same thing still, except THIS time it was the letter 'I' instead. Ernie says he'll try again, but Bert says to never mind; he LOVES this new one!!! So, Ernie leaves him to it, Bert watching 'I' over & over again...

  • The reason I was scared was because of the flashing H so I think I blocked out the rest of the skit because it was a frightening thing to me. Yea now that you say it I do remember the ending but it's been well over 30 years since I saw it so it's hard to remember.

  • 'Salright - I only hope that it's less 'foreboding'(?) now: hopefully, someone will post that skit - I'd love to see it myself, it's one of my favorites...

  • Sure. This one sounds like acceptance and persisting. Or something like that? I remember it.

  • This is very neat. Interestingly enough the i sound was one of the first sounds my little girl made when she was baby -- that sounded like anything, anyway. The letter I is one of the first ones she recognized when she was starting to learn her alphabet.

  • Speaking of the letter "i", anyone post that skit with the guy discussing the "i", and the guy off stage making fun of him, and the guy on screen goes off and beats the crap out of the other guy?

  • Tell us all about it, 'bright boy'...

  • Excuse me one minute please. (Proceeds to beat the snot out of Maskedmutant)

  • I remember that one--the lecturer used "impolite" as his example of an "I" word, for which I couldn't have blamed him.

THIS sketch, though, scared the pants off me when I was a kid. Screaming letters...what a change-the-channel moment if there ever was one! It still deserves three stars for the novel approach, though.

  • it used to scare me too lol the poor lil dot!

  • Me too, the voice would scare me! LMAO

  • I know, and I miss that one! Love the way Off-Stage Guy just keeps picking at Briefcase Guy one too many times! "Try not to be impolite!"

  • I'm looking for that one as well! "It's a-ell with a ball on top."

  • Did anyone else notice how the bouncy sounds resembled the noise that the machines made in "War of the Worlds"?

  • YIKES! you're so right! lol. that movie scared the heck out of me! i've tried watching it FOUR times but each time i pussy out and turn it off.

  • I thought this was "U" TUBE not "I" FILMS!!!

  • Yet another SS clip that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid....although I also remember climbing on top of my bed and yelling "I!!!!!!" at the top of my lungs, then bouncing off like the dot. That eventually broke my bed, I think.

  • LOL I used to reenact "High Diving Hare" with Bugs Bunny on my bed.

  • That little dot just springs up, crawls to the thing, jetting to the thing, and yells I!! Until that the screaming is over, the crowd cheers.

  • This one freaked me out. I'm looking for the J Train and Ernie and Bert's broken TV that flashes "H."

  • eeek...the tv with the H one....yeah :D

  • .... Yes, well then. Does bring back a lot of memories, though! Incidentally, is the live film to which you refer the one where a large block of molten metal is hammered into the shape of a capital I in some sort of steel mill machine while overly dramatic music plays in the background? If so (or even if not), any chance you have that one in your collection? I used to love that one as well.

  • someone has already posted it (yes, that's the one I was referring to)

  • Ah, so it has, I was using the wrong search string. (It doesn't show up on a search for "sesame street letter i" but it does show up on a search for just "sesame street i".) Thanks much!

  • IAWTP, except the opposite. This screaming i I just thought was funny. The molten I rolling down a conveyor belt into what appeared to be the GAPING MAW OF HELL ITSELF scared me so much that I'd leave the room when it came on. (The grandiose music mentioned above undoubtedly fed my fears.)

  • BTW, those things are called I-beams; now you know why, 'cause of their shape

  • Are you referring to the molding of an I-beam? (that's what they're called, you know; now you know why)

  • This Sesame Street Cartoon, Screaming i, is currently one of my favorites and would've been on DVD. I like this so much. Thanks for posting this Sesame Street Cartoon.

  • I!!!! Ach my achin' ears.. lol Thanks for sharing this classic SS cartoon =D

  • This was the one I was telling Larynxa about. Only Sesame Street thing that ever jarred me. I used to startle every time that darn "I" yelled " I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" lol I'm much braver now, and yknow......it has a good lesson. The dot didn't give up, even though the big "I" wanted him to cower in fear.

  • This segment is funny! Please don't bring it down!!!! I can't get it out of my head!!!

  • Cool! I remember this one- haven't seen it in forever! :-)
