Hey Bruce, I haven't looked through all the comments but did you know that you can bind the hobbyking 3ch and 4ch rx's to the 9x? Although the FrSky is really a great upgrade it's a nice option for anyone that just wants the standard 9x for smaller models.
I have a programming question. If you can't answer it can you direct to who can?
My question is: I just purchased the 9X and my wife purchased the FMS P51 for my birthday. I am using the 9X in it's standard form. I am buying the V8HT this week end. . I have the flaps working with the three position switch but can only make one position work. The middle position is on and top and bottom is off. I would like to make it three positions for my flaps. HOW? I have tried everything.
Im not exactly sure I know why I cannot seem to get my frsky v8fr go into failsafe. I have a fs-th9x with the diy frsky 2.4ghz mod. I am bound but cannot get the failsafe to work. Turn off the tx and servos stay where they are. And yes, i set the aileron fail safe to 100%. I read the manual for the tx and it says "pcm mode only"...am I missing something?
Could you please let me know what type of soldering iron you used here (brand and watts ?). And did I understand you correctly that you do use the leaded solder because it is better than the unleaded one?
@nitrovice the brand and wattage doesnt matter. The rating on the soldering iron just means higher the watts, quicker it heats up. A 16 watt soldering iron will be as good as a 30watt one for this application. It matters when you start soldering thicker wires / traces etc.
IMO stay away from 5£/$ cheapo ones, and get a Antex make, 16 watt or 18watt. These are better and have different tips available. a standard chisel tip will be fine (these are standard on this wattage)
You make it look so ez you do a great job! you should have a hobby shop! you would make a lot of money selling and setting up RC's if I hit the big one I will set you up! I mean it! have a great day! and thank you for the videos!
Just a quick question looked over the responces and didn't see this one. Can you still use the original reciever that came with the tx with this setup. And will it bind to spectrum BNF recievers?
i would like to do this mod to my turnigy 9x but the diy kit and the receiver is always on back order on hobbyking. other places sells for more money.
yes! I did install it yesterday and it is exactly the same, but you have the toggle switch, i removed the timer switch so i didnt had to drill extra holes.
Hello Bruce, you mention "FrSky 2.4GHz DIY kit has many benefits ..." other than the 'Failsafe' feature what are the other main benefits of making this MOD?
Would it be a better choice to go for the new MOD that includes Telemetry?
Honestly thanks a lot for making this video. My new T9x is now outfitted with FrSky, it seems to work great thus far, and this vid made it a quick job with nothing left to figure out.
And LOL - "little chinese ladies with their big manly hands" :)
Thanks for your quick response to my question on the menus. These videos are invaluable , they always say apicture is worth a thousand words. Thanks again.
I tried your mod on a FlySky 9x w/the FrSky V8HT & V8R7-SP receivers. I had no problem binding & servos worked great the first time around + activated & tested FailSafe. I put the small LED & Switch on the back using some hot glue as cushion for the board and strapped it to the bk case w/ the screw from the blk stub which is screwed to the case.
if I didn't care about going back to the Turnigy module, would the FrSky plug in module kit (not the DIY kit) fit in the Turnigy slot? I would still remove the existing antenna. Just trying to aviod the soldering process.
I'm sold! Now who can tell me if this conversion module will work in my JR XP7202 transmitter???? I've checked the FrSky web site and HK with no luck.
@priatnasuardi I believe it does. If you check this thread (half-way down) there's a photo with the FrSky V8HT installed and he's running ER9X. rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1338412#post16549680
I currently have the FlySky 6 Channel TX and several 6 Channel RX to go with it. But I want to upgrade the TX to the Turnigy 9 Channel TX. Can I use all my 6 Channel RX I had on the Turnigy system?
Question two is. Is this a good system for my scratch build parkflyer hobby. I don't plan on going with bigger planes or beyond the parkflyer level.
i have a cheap radio from a hobbystore (it called racon x6 and the hobbyshop is called rchobbies) can i install the FrSky in it so i can fly with failsafe
Hey can u please help? Ive installed the module FrSky DHT on my TURNIGY 9x same as your tutorial, I could bind the RX D8R-II, it is with red light on when my TX is on, but after connect the servos they are not responding the commands, when i connect the battery to the RX i can see the servos are trying to move like going to the center position, what can be the problem?
So i put this system in my turnigy 9x, binding seems to be good as both TX and RX leds are solid and if I turn off TX then RX led starts to flash. However, I blug in servos and motor but they will not respond!! TX and RX seem to be bound but can't control servos. HELP PLEASE ANYONE I'VE BEEN AT THIS FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS NOW!!
@RCModelReviews I can turn the servos manually but not with the TX. When turning them manually (with everything turned on) they turn as if everything was turned off, they don't try to recenter or hold their position.
@majch In that case there is no valid PPM information getting to the FrSky transmitter board or the board is faulty. Can you put an oscilloscope on the PPM lead and see if there is a signal there?
Will this Diy work on the FS 9CH 2.4Ghz Transmitter that has both the FM ans 2.4ghz module antennas. I would like to remove the FM antenna and replace it with this Diy mod. Thanks for all the help.
Thanks for a great video. I have just completed the mod. Its seems to be working ok, the radio is powering up and trying to bind but I cant seem to get the receivers to bind. Any ideas? Things I could check?
VERY GOOD .... plus, the bind switch sits better up there. If it's on the back you could activate it whey you dont want to.. also ,why not just lock the antenna with the nuts a little bit lower? its seems to be room?
@RCModelReviews Oh wow that'll be great ... was about to give this a go myself. Though i'm starting to wonder, by the time i take the T9X, the DHT and the D8R reciever (or perhaps the v2 of that) i'd probably have the equivalent of a $150 dollar radio with a decent 2.4 ghz system with fail safes and what not. Would it be better to purchase another radio for that cost or would this be a practical modification.
Bruce that would be really great. (a DIY demonstration on how to fit the FrSky DHT into the Turnigy 9X)
Of course we all have our own ideas on how to do it, but if you get the time to show your plan of attack it might ignite ideas that we haven't thought of.
I have the telemetry system and when I press the button and turn on the transmitter the green led and red led flickers. I made sure its in 2-way mode and everything but it still does that so I cannot bind it to a receiver ( it is also v-2).
In the instructions it says insure both switches are off when in 2-way mode, what is that?
I'm getting extremely frustrated by this... any help..?
@jaywonser FlySky is the standard system that the Turnigy 9X radios use. FrSky is a different system that has many advantages and offers more features such as failsafe, power-down range-test, optional telemetry etc.
@RCModelReviews thanks for the help from what I understand the only way to get a frysky is to convert a turnigy 9x V2 radio with a dit kit. or is there a place i can just by the frysky already done and ready.
@RCModelReviews I was ready to buy the turnigy v2 9x, but then noticed the frysky 9x that hobbypartz has available now. that looks like the same as the turnigy. just with a differant name if i am seeing it right. I think with the turnigy also the receivers are large from what i understnad with turnigy. frysky or flysky also big?
@jaywonser The HobbyPartz radio is pretty much the same thing, except that HobbyKing claim to have fixed the software bugs. HobbyKing's price is much lower than HobbyPartz. You can use the HobbyKing 6-channel V2 receiver with these radios if you want something that's physically smaller than the bulky 8-channel that normally comes with them. Remember these are both FlySky radios -- not FrSky.
I followed your video and did everything as you said, the only problem I am having is when it comes to binding. I hold the little black key on the transmitter and turn it on, the light blinks but the screen on 9x doesn't turn up, I thought it was the connection problem so i checked all the connection that we pulled out in the transmitter but thats not it, the screen does turn on when i turn on the power, hold the black button but as soon as i release it, it goes off. Any help?
I have broken the original gray antenna wire. now can I just replace with a regular wire and run up the antenna? I did try and solder the wire and now I am experiencing intermittent problems with motor shut off, rudder ailerons flipping out and plane crashing, I dont want to throw this radio away and dont want to do conversion i just bought a bunch of extra receivers, is there a way to fix this?
There is one thing I have to ask. How much is this controller worth now? While this is an excellent video and howto, I'm not sure it's going to be worth it for most. The knowledge, parts, and time taken to upgrade easily doubles or triples the cost of the radio.
@johnkim100530 Because although the standard Turnigy 9XV2 system is adequate for small/sport flying it's certainly not suitable for larger/faster models. It has no user-definable failsafe capabilities and the interference rejection capabilities are "adequate" but not outstanding. The FrSky is much, much better -- offering full user-definable failsafes, antenna diversity and better interference rejection. Jets, gasers, fast models -- FrSky is a must for safety.
If anyone need a transmitter for conversion, Turnigy 9X costing $53 is natural choice. 9X programing capability is superb, better than other 9ch brands.
I used JR 378 for conversion to FrSky only because I had JR 378 on hand.
hey , i enjoy watching someone of your knowledge do these videos , most of us wouldnt ever know of any of these things if it werent for you , im thinking of doing this conversion on my turnigy 9x , how large of plane would you go with on this conversion??
@Rcgary24 You can fly any size of model with this conversion. We have people in our club flying everything from little indoor foamies to large gas-planes with the Turnigy 9X and FrSky DIY.
Hi great video , I followed your guide and everything went smooth... well almost!
I accidently manage to pull the coax cable from the SMA plug!! :(
Just a question, I don't know if you can answer , but I think you can :)
The coax cable got an inner lead + outer shield right, so I soldered the inner lead to the center pin and cut away the shield. Is this correct? I cant see any place to solder the shield on the plug, and there's no sleeve. Theres no reason to ground it in both ends right?
@octane81 It is essential that the outer conductor of the coax cable is terminated at *both* ends. If it is not connected at both ends then the range will be significantly reduced and the transmitter circuitry will probably fail due to overheating. I suggest you solder the outer cable to the SMA body (very carefully) or get a new cable.
@RCModelReviews Hmm when I first broke the cable , and removed the original shrink tube everything was soldered to the bottom of the SMA plug. It was just a big chunck of tin at the bottom.
Take a look on this short vid I made, it seems as all are connected , because when I Ohm the center pin and outer body , it shows that there is connection.
Great! Helped me out a lot. Ordered exactly what you recommended. One more question, I have a spare DIY kit and I would like to set it up in my dx6i, could you guide me somewhere where I can find the necessary information how its done? Or if you can help me out in any way, I'd be more than happy.
Dear Mr Bruce, i'm trying to install this module into a Futaba 7c FASST. I want to have both systems in the same radio in order to have a wider receiver range (as you know futaba compatible receivers are 8 channel ones and I'm looking to fly small indoor planes that require micro 4 channel receivers as FRSky V8R4). My question is can i have both modules transmitting on the same antenna, in order not to put yet another 2.4Ghz antenna on the radio?
hi i have jr 9x radio and with spektrum ghz radio i broke its antena wire from module side and i don,t know where exactly its soldered plzz help me post a video or simply tell me that coaxial wire is soldered at two points at one at one end or only middle core is attached ?

Hi there bruce. i have a problem and i need yr help. i cut the antenna wire from the turnigy module and use the assan system. but now i wan to use back my turnigy module. can u show a video on how to solder back the antenna wire? thanx very much for yr help
Dear Bruce, i have the v2 9x and i have the frsky diy kit on order. the one thing i was wondering is using these in larger models. i have a 35% su-26 that i would like to use this system on but i would like to run 2 of the 8 ch rx's for dual redundancy. is this possible? thanks in advance
@gtrguy32 I use the FrSky system in my 30% Extra 330L and my jets but I found that the lack of a throttle curve in the Turnigy transmitter made my JR 9XII/9303 (also with FrSky) a better option for the big gassers.
However, there are others flying their gassers with the Turnigy 9X/FrSky combo with no problems at all. You can use dual receivers -- but then there's twice as much to go wrong :-)
@RCModelReviews Thanks for the reply Bruce. my big plan was to reflash the firmware with the improved ER9X from erazz. i have to wait for the pogo board for eprom flash to come off of back order first. in the past with my 72mhz systems i ran dual recievers splitting the arplane down the middle. i reiciever for 1 ele, 1 ail and one of the rudder servos. and the othere reciever for 1 ele , 1 ail ,1 rudder and the throttle . i've had recievers fail and the dual setup saved my but twice now.
@gtrguy32 i was more or less unsure if you could run two recievers bound the the same radio without any issues of being erratic or range issues. From what everbody online says about the 9x , with good firmware and the frsky module it is capable of being a very good radio. the er9x firmware makes the radio more fluent to program and gives better mixes with better 5/9 point curve adjustments.plus you get a nice little EL backlight with the pogo kit. thanks for such a quick response :D
Thanks a million times for this, I'm getting a 9x Turnigy and I will be using this tutorial to do the FrSky mod. Extremely detailed and well explained.
@tjerklol Yes you could do that -- but then you'd have to remove the original antenna and you'd have a hole in the top of your radio. Also, the DIY is *cheaper* than a module. The DIY gives a much nicer end-result and, because you're no longer relying on the connectors between the module and the radio, it is also going to have an edge in terms of reliability.
@RCModelReviews You are right about the antenna thing. But I am not quite sure if using the DIY module will improve reliability. Maybe you could mention that people who lack the soldering skills are better off using the JR module.
@tjerklol So long as it's soldered properly, the DIY will be more reliable than a module because the module connector/pins are always a potential source of problem. I have had to fit longer pins to a couple of 9X radios in the club because the early ones didn't seem to go deep enough into the FrSky module to provide a reliable connection.
Very great reveiews! Can 3S Li-Po's be used after converting the Turnigy 9X V2 to the DIY FrSky?Would that apply to a DX7,not the DX7 SE version also?

Why are you showing us how to undo the screws or that we need side cutters to cut the wires? It's not just this video, but a lot of how-to videos are like this, it is very annoyng and sorry that i decidet to write my opinion just under this video.
But do you really think we are so dumb and don't know how to use srewdiver or wire cutters. Pleas start talking about important stuff and not IRRELEVANT THINGS, ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND NERVES.
@tarmogr Excuse me while I slash my wrists for causing you such anguish :-) When embarking on a project it is always a sensible thing to make sure you have the required parts and tools.
@tarmogr its a waste of time and nerves reading posts from assholes like you. rcmodel reviews does a favor for the rc community and pricks like you spoil things for the rest of us. im sure everybody knows what sidecutters are for but mabey they don't know that there not meant for music wire. plus when you make a video dead air is considered a no no so small talk kills time while he gets to the next step. saves his time by not having to edit as much. if you dont like dont watch... simple as that
Dear Bearded King of all DIY. I just received my TG9X with the FrSky DIY module, and within the hour it was working. It wouldn't have worked without your video guide. Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for this video, in connection with ER9x firmware it makes T9x a great Tx. I got one question: is it possible to connect both Tx modules (FRsky and turnigy) using aditional 3-way switch ... using one antena - switching between modules or shall I rather not touch antena cable? Thank you
Thought you ought to know that those "little Chinese girls" on the production lines (with the strong wrists) use corded electric screwdrivers and sometimes/a lot of the time, the clutch torque's (just like on a cordless drill) are set too high - that's why its difficult to remove screws from the back of plastic cases.
Wow imagine screwing ALL day :)
All the best and thanks for the informative videos.
@wretchedmaniam But the standard Turnigy 9X 2.4GHz system has *no* failsafe and is less resistant to interference than the FrSky. Many people are happy with the Turnigy RF system but if you're flying larger/faster models that need failsafe then you really need something better.
I unfortunately you cannot use the new DHT 2.4GHz Two Way Communication System mode installation on the Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter in the same way as Bruce as show in the video because of the pcb board is different to the one in the video which is V8HT and not to-way mode you have to cut a big piece out and also it shows part of the pcb board when you've finished I think that the construction has not been taken into consideration when they made the pcb board up.
Bruce, I used a DPDT toggle switch on the PPM & positive leads to allow the use of an internal (Assan) module as well as the external module compartment. This way I could use a Spektrum DM9 module for use with Parkzone's RTF "Ultra Micro" planes. It was pretty easy to trace the pins to the corresponding leads in the wire bundle attached to the back half of the 9X.
This revealed a limitation of the stock 9X firmware, requiring me to install ER9X firmware in order to have normal controls.
I see theres a module laying on the bench is this a frsky module that will fit into a 9x saries 1 transmitter without having tio do all the soldering?
Kind Sir, thank you for taking the time & effort in making & sharing this great video.Absolutely wonderful! I will attempt to do the same once new stock of the 9x comes available.
A small tip for putting the screws back. The screws are a bit too snug and can strip the holes, so to make their way easier put some soap on them. Hard soap, not the hand washing liquid thing Also it doesn't matter if it's Dove, Palmolive or the cheapest around. You can tighten the screws fairly easy now and it will hold just fine.
@ap0lmc I can't say for sure -- it actually looks just like the first of the Corona 4-channel receivers but it does say Turnigy 9X on it so perhaps it is. I find it very interesting that there's no mention of this product on the HobbyKing site - given that Turnigy is a HobbyKing house-brand and you'd expect them to have these before anyone else. Pretty expensive though -- for a 4-channel receiver!
@RCModelReviews after googling I have found a few places that sell 4 channel Turnigy and even 6 channel Flysky all compatible with the turnigy 9x. Yes you can remove their cases and shrink wrap them with tubes. I don't know why HobbyKing does not sell them.
@sandryseibert I regularly fly the FrSky system to over 2.2Kms when using my FPV setup and there's still plenty of range. If you want access to the RSSI information then you need to use the new FrSky 2-way DIY kit which has telemetry.
Bruce Could Please Do a DIY, On How to install the XGY-1000 HeadTracker for FPV, On the TURNIGY 9x V2 with the FrSky ACCST 2.4Ghz System, Please & Thank you.
Is there an easy modification i could make to the receiver that will allow the fail safe to be "persistent"? or should i just replace the Corona system with the FrSky system? I do not want to cause someone harm because i forgot to set the failsafe in the Corona system. Thanks for the timely response you have been making to my comments.
@000006rapture Unfortunately Corona have indicated that they won't be adding persistent failsafe to their DSSS product so there's not much you can do. The FrSky is a better system all-round. It links up faster, is more resilient to interference and has persistent failsafe. I would advise getting the 2-way system because it offers telemetry but can also be used with the 1-way receivers as well.
I have tested Corona DSSS system and you are correct, the failsafe is not "persistent". I wished you would have stated this before since i ordered this system f

Can you tell me the part number for this FrSky system? And I'm assuming that it is from Hobbyking. I've looked but cannot find it.
As far as I can see there isn't even a plug in system for the Turnigy 9X transmitter. There is for other makes but not the Turnigy.
Thanks for your help.

how far i can fly with this radio?
sergionew7 4 months ago
@sergionew7 The FrSky 2.4GHz system gives about 2 to 2.5Kms of range. Most models disappear from sight at less than 1Km distance.

Bruce,
I tried your mod on a FlySky 9x w/the FrSky V8HT & V8R7-SP receivers. I had no problem binding & servos worked great the first time around + activated & tested FailSafe. I put the small LED & Switch on the back using some hot glue as cushion for the board and strapped it to the bk case w/ the screw from the blk stub which is screwed to the case.

skimowhite586 6 months ago
@RCModelReviews I can turn the servos manually but not with the TX. When turning them manually (with everything turned on) they turn as if everything was turned off, they don't try to recenter or hold their position.

@majch In that case there is no valid PPM information getting to the FrSky transmitter board or the board is faulty. Can you put an oscilloscope on the PPM lead and see if there is a signal there?

@RCModelReviews Oh wow that'll be great ... was about to give this a go myself. Though i'm starting to wonder, by the time i take the T9X, the DHT and the D8R reciever (or perhaps the v2 of that) i'd probably have the equivalent of a $150 dollar radio with a decent 2.4 ghz system with fail safes and what not. Would it be better to purchase another radio for that cost or would this be a practical modification.

And what is the differnace between flysky and frsky at hobbyking?
jaywonser 7 months ago
@jaywonser FlySky is the standard system that the Turnigy 9X radios use. FrSky is a different system that has many advantages and offers more features such as failsafe, power-down range-test, optional telemetry etc.
RCModelReviews 7 months ago
@RCModelReviews thanks for the help from what I understand the only way to get a frysky is to convert a turnigy 9x V2 radio with a dit kit. or is there a place i can just by the frysky already done and ready.
jaywonser 7 months ago
@RCModelReviews I was ready to buy the turnigy v2 9x, but then noticed the frysky 9x that hobbypartz has available now. that looks like the same as the turnigy. just with a differant name if i am seeing it right. I think with the turnigy also the receivers are large from what i understnad with turnigy. frysky or flysky also big?
jaywonser 7 months ago
@jaywonser The HobbyPartz radio is pretty much the same thing, except that HobbyKing claim to have fixed the software bugs. HobbyKing's price is much lower than HobbyPartz. You can use the HobbyKing 6-channel V2 receiver with these radios if you want something that's physically smaller than the bulky 8-channel that normally comes with them. Remember these are both FlySky radios -- not FrSky.

Hi there,
I followed your video and did everything as you said, the only problem I am having is when it comes to binding. Any help?

9dbi antenna anyone?
There is one thing I have to ask. How much is this controller worth now? While this is an excellent video and howto, I'm not sure it's going to be worth it for most. The knowledge, parts, and time taken to upgrade easily doubles or triples the cost of the radio.
Again, excellent job.

Very helpful step by step instruction.
But why bother to convert 9X to FrSky? Turnigy 9X works fine.
I converted 72MHz JR X378 to FrSky 2.4. It is for sale..
Contact me.
johnkim100530 8 months ago
@johnkim100530 Because although the standard Turnigy 9XV2 system is adequate for small/sport flying it's certainly not suitable for larger/faster models. It has no user-definable failsafe capabilities and the interference rejection capabilities are "adequate" but not outstanding. The FrSky is much, much better -- offering full user-definable failsafes, antenna diversity and better interference rejection. Jets, gasers, fast models -- FrSky is a must for safety.
RCModelReviews 8 months ago
@RCModelReviews
If anyone need a transmitter for conversion, Turnigy 9X costing $53 is natural choice. 9X programing capability is superb, better than other 9ch brands.
I used JR 378 for conversion to FrSky only because I had JR 378 on hand.

Theres no reason to ground it in both ends right?
octane81 8 months ago
@octane81 It is essential that the outer conductor of the coax cable is terminated at *both* ends. If it is not connected at both ends then the range will be significantly reduced and the transmitter circuitry will probably fail due to overheating. I suggest you solder the outer cable to the SMA body (very carefully) or get a new cable.
RCModelReviews 8 months ago
@RCModelReviews Hmm when I first broke the cable , and removed the original shrink tube everything was soldered to the bottom of the SMA plug. It was just a big chunck of tin at the bottom.
Take a look on this short vid I made, it seems as all are connected , because when I Ohm the center pin and outer body , it shows that there is connection.

Dear Bruce, i have the v2 9x and i have the frsky diy kit on order. the one thing i was wondering is using these in larger models. i have a 35% su-26 that i would like to use this system on but i would like to run 2 of the 8 ch rx's for dual redundancy. is this possible? thanks in advance
gtrguy32 10 months ago
@gtrguy32 I use the FrSky system in my 30% Extra 330L and my jets but I found that the lack of a throttle curve in the Turnigy transmitter made my JR 9XII/9303 (also with FrSky) a better option for the big gassers.
However, there are others flying their gassers with the Turnigy 9X/FrSky combo with no problems at all. You can use dual receivers -- but then there's twice as much to go wrong :-)
RCModelReviews 10 months ago
@RCModelReviews Thanks for the reply Bruce. my big plan was to reflash the firmware with the improved ER9X from erazz. i have to wait for the pogo board for eprom flash to come off of back order first. in the past with my 72mhz systems i ran dual recievers splitting the arplane down the middle. i reiciever for 1 ele, 1 ail and one of the rudder servos. and the othere reciever for 1 ele , 1 ail ,1 rudder and the throttle . i've had recievers fail and the dual setup saved my but twice now.
gtrguy32 10 months ago
@gtrguy32 i was more or less unsure if you could run two recievers bound the the same radio without any issues of being erratic or range issues. From what everbody online says about the 9x , with good firmware and the frsky module it is capable of being a very good radio. the er9x firmware makes the radio more fluent to program and gives better mixes with better 5/9 point curve adjustments.plus you get a nice little EL backlight with the pogo kit. thanks for such a quick response :D

Hello, I would like to know if after Installing the 2.4GHz FrSky Hobbyking DIY kit in a radio Turnigy 9X can be used in the simulator
PepeSFilm1 10 months ago
Why all the effort?
You can just cut the original antenna wire, yank the antenna off and insert the FrSky JR module in the back.
tjerklol 10 months ago
@tjerklol Yes you could do that -- but then you'd have to remove the original antenna and you'd have a hole in the top of your radio. Also, the DIY is *cheaper* than a module. The DIY gives a much nicer end-result and, because you're no longer relying on the connectors between the module and the radio, it is also going to have an edge in terms of reliability.
RCModelReviews 10 months ago
@RCModelReviews You are right about the antenna thing. But I am not quite sure if using the DIY module will improve reliability. Maybe you could mention that people who lack the soldering skills are better off using the JR module.
tjerklol 10 months ago
@tjerklol So long as it's soldered properly, the DIY will be more reliable than a module because the module connector/pins are always a potential source of problem. I have had to fit longer pins to a couple of 9X radios in the club because the early ones didn't seem to go deep enough into the FrSky module to provide a reliable connection.

Love your video's.
All the best and thanks for the informative videos.
mantua66 10 months ago
@wretchedmaniam But the standard Turnigy 9X 2.4GHz system has *no* failsafe and is less resistant to interference than the FrSky. Many people are happy with the Turnigy RF system but if you're flying larger/faster models that need failsafe then you really need something better.
xjet 10 months ago
I unfortunately you cannot use the new DHT 2.4GHz Two Way Communication System mode installation on the Turnigy 9X 9Ch Transmitter in the same way as Bruce as show in the video because of the pcb board is different to the one in the video which is V8HT and not to-way mode you have to cut a big piece out and also it shows part of the pcb board when you've finished I think that the construction has not been taken into consideration when they made the pcb board up.
saddleryrepairs 11 months ago
Bruce, I used a DPDT toggle switch on the PPM & positive leads to allow the use of an internal (Assan) module as well as the external module compartment. This way I could use a Spektrum DM9 module for use with Parkzone's RTF "Ultra Micro" planes. It was pretty easy to trace the pins to the corresponding leads in the wire bundle attached to the back half of the 9X.
This revealed a limitation of the stock 9X firmware, requiring me to install ER9X firmware in order to have normal controls.

Eurgle is compatible to the Turnigy 9x so you don't have to go thru all this because they have a 3 channel small enough for small foamy

ap0lmc 11 months ago
@ap0lmc I can't say for sure -- it actually looks just like the first of the Corona 4-channel receivers but it does say Turnigy 9X on it so perhaps it is. I find it very interesting that there's no mention of this product on the HobbyKing site - given that Turnigy is a HobbyKing house-brand and you'd expect them to have these before anyone else. Pretty expensive though -- for a 4-channel receiver!
RCModelReviews 11 months ago
@RCModelReviews If HobbyKing sold it directly it would certainly be cheaper. I think it would sell out so don't understand them.

@RCModelReviews after googling I have found a few places that sell 4 channel Turnigy and even 6 channel Flysky all compatible with the turnigy 9x. Yes you can remove their cases and shrink wrap them with tubes. I don't know why HobbyKing does not sell them.

000006rapture 1 year ago
@000006rapture Unfortunately Corona have indicated that they won't be adding persistent failsafe to their DSSS product so there's not much you can do. The FrSky is a better system all-round. It links up faster, is more resilient to interference and has persistent failsafe. I would advise getting the 2-way system because it offers telemetry but can also be used with the 1-way receivers as well.
RCModelReviews 1 year ago
I have tested Corona DSSS system and you are correct, the failsafe is not "persistent". I wished you would have stated this before since i ordered this system f
