  • Maybe just me but it looks like you almost got a line twist (second jumper)....that would of been scary for the first jump!

  • @karvanj

Yes I got a line twist. In fact, I had line twists in several of my very first jumps. But in your first jump course you are taught how to deal with them - it's nothing to worry about as long as you still have altitude.

  • @Gaollenaer is static line how you start....and then move to free fall

  • @Gaollenaer is static line how you start, and then move to free fall?

  • @badgerattoadhall That is one of the two major approaches, yes. The other is AFF (accellerated freefall), with which you'll make a freefall as your first jump, with two instructors holding you stable for the duration of the freefall. After your canopy opens, you're on your own, just like as if you;d done a static-line (SL) jump.

Either approach gets you an A-licence, though SL takes more time and AFF costs more money to learn the same set of skills.

  • Who was the lady jumpmaster in this video? Just curious....and I loved her expression when she did her hop and pop.

  • i thought the last person forgot to attach the line!

  • @defetz123

    No Worries :-)

The two last people are experienced jumpers who no longer need a static line to open their parachutes for them. All skydivers learn how to open their parachutes manually as soon as they demonstrate to their instructors that they can remain in a stable position once they exit the aircraft.

  • try jumping with a 35kilo burgen atraped to your legs. but then again i did my jumps out a c-130 much eaiser because you are standing up and jumping

  • Oh I loved that it's been 24 years since my last static line jump and I just love watching it; thanks for posting that.

  • cool video:). ive been wanting to start skydiving for ages. going to do a static jump in summer. do you get that empty feeling in your stomach when you jump? i dont really want to be strapped to someone, so its gotta be a static jump first :).

  • So did you jump? I'm a student skydiver, 12 jumps now and RESTLESS for the weather to clear!

  • @snowyywwinters

Yes - I definately got that 'empty feeling' you described after I jumped. But that feeling went away after a few seconds and after that it was merely awesome. :-)

By the way.. it's nearly summer. Did you jump yet?

  • epic song choice! lol

doing my first static line jump tomorroooow :)

  • Thank you :-)

Good luck - I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather. Enjoy!

  • how close to the door were you before the hoohed your line?

  • @badgerattoadhall

Your jumpmaster will hook up the static line before you board the aircraft.

  • @TiaDalmax How did your first static line go?

  • i have done 2 tandems from 14,000 and 10,000 feet but im thinking about doing a static line jump. looks like fun . id rather go without some one on my back

  • Trust me on this - it IS fun. You haven't live until you've landed your own parachute. :-)

  • @Gaollenaer ive done hundreds of these jumps. im from 3RAR para regiment. these are hell awsome ways to get to your objective

  • Did my first SL today! Was AMAZING. More than made up for the 12 hours training and weekend spent sitting around.

  • guy who jumped at 34seconds opend his shute a bit late.

  • That guy is a girl :-)

But no worries, taking a three to five second delay from that altitude (3500 feet) is perfectly normal.

The only reason that the other parachutes are open so quickly is because they are deployed by a so-called static line, which is attached to the aircraft.

  • @Gaollenaer

Must be blind to miss the gal...I wish I could meet her in person, love her smile out the door. Where is the DZ?

  • @jelideli7 i dont think so lol

  • i did my first static jump today, the feeling of falling into nothingness was the scariest yet most calming moment of my life, im shooting for 2 weeks till my next jump ;p

  • Congratulations!

It's the first of many to come, I'm sure.

  • did you get that rollercoaster feeling in your stomach?

  • greatest feeling ever!

  • Well done all. Where is this dropzone?

  • What song is this?

  • It's called "Suicide is painless" and the theme song from the movie M*A*S*H.

Don't know who originally wrote it - it's been covered many times.

  • I had my second IAD (no more static line there) and it was great. I did slip off the stut though, I was embarrassed! Jump 6 and 7 are Sat.

  • No worries :-)

Bad exits happen to the best of us. Glad you are enjoying the sport... I'll be looking forward to hear about your first freefall.

Tell me, how do you do dummy pulls with IAD? I am genuinely curious, since we do not have IAD over here but the methods are similar (to the student).

  • Thanks for the support! Their struts are just bare metal, no "grip sticker material" applied. An IAD (Instructor Assisted Deployment) is where the instructor pulls your main in the plane and then tosses the pilot 'chute out after you let go of the strut. They've stated that the industry is moving in that direction now.

  • Well, the strut of our 182 has no grip material either... and the industry is not so much moving into the direction of IAD as to AFF. IAD has the advantage over static-line that the gear doesn't need to be modified - on the next load a freefall student can use it.

  • I did fine the first time, no slippage! I had the feeling that their IAD was merely a cost saving measure when they told me about it.

  • I'm doing this in a month's time, oh god. I'm so scared lol.

  • haha cool, i have butterflies just watching that! my 1st jump is in two weeks, haven't done a tandem just going straight to RAPS. yes, i'm pooing myself but been reading up on the whole thing for two years... it's time to do it =D

  • Countdown initiated :-)

No need to poo yourself - you'll get a thorough course before you get into the plane. Where will you be jumping?

  • Great video! I have three tandems down now and this place near me says statics are the way to go to progress and cheaper than AFF too. Plus ski season is over. I'll get mine filmed too. THANKS.

  • Go for it! Once you are over the initial jittery feeling, you'll come to realise that there is no greater sport :-)

  • I'm going to man, thanks for the support!

  • Nice! PM me how it went :-)

  • Try doing it at night with full combat gear!! :-)

  • Minus the combat gear/warzone and from 12.000 ft rather than 3500 - I'd love to! :-)

  • done that. not that hard .. and at nights it's easy you can't see= you can't fear

  • Dude, I TRIED! But my medical condition knocks me out the military...not everyone avoids it because they want to. Kudos to you if genetics was nicer to ya.

  • Great video, the best short & sweet.

Brings back great memories of my first jump:)

  • Welcome to the Blue skies!

I agree, static line would scare the heck out of me, I'm lucky I'm doing tandem progression leading to AFF.

You've got much to look forward to.

    Great sport we've gotten into.

May you be well and remain strong,

    -minna

  • static line is awsum, you got something to look forward too as you progress, i just completed my 1st dummy pull cant wait for freefall now :)

  • Kewl vid. In England?

  • Thanks :)

The video was shot near Utrecht, The Netherlands, at skydiving centre PCMN.

  • kool

  • Nice! My husband started static line. I did AFF and gotta admit static line would have scared the shit out of me!

  • I agree! keep it old skool!
