Clay does not burn, but it can be shattered by the heat. You will have a nice pour of liquid iron straight down, which is the best way to get your explosion.
The reason it didn't explode is because the thermite needs to be directed at the ice. You had it contained in a plastic bottle - clay gardening pots work better b/c of the hole in the center, and the fact that thermite will not burn through the clay (dunno why)
Also, the kid was rught when he said it had to drop onto the ice, the explosion occurs when the heat cause the ice to melt so rapidly it produces hydrogen and oxygen, which is what causes the fireball.
can anyone help me i made thermite but i cant get it to light i made a homemade magnisum ribbion with a magnisum fire starter and hacksaw but it still wont ignite can anyone help
I think you need more thermite. It didn't even melt most of the ice. I think you need a minimum amount of energy to be released in a very short period of time so that the ice doesn't have time to absorb it slowly. That would be my guess--not enough thermite. Also take care that you're mixing the thermite right and using the finest aluminum powder you can find.
Why be negative? Its their life. Themite is not TNT. And obviously they used a tripod. I'm sure they where far enough away and safe. Besides, what do you care? Are you their mother? :)
they are idiots no matter, see i liek thermite and its cool effects but if that exploded .. if they did it correctly... listen to that wind and look how try that grass and weeds is around there...
ment dry not try lol, anyways what im saying is if it splattered out to that grass/weed and im sure there is some infront and on the sides the camera doesn't show.... ud have one hell of a fire storm... if their in a feild... that feil would go up in flames like nothing and witht aht wind the roads wouldnt stop it from spreading to other feilds
if you put it into a clay pot with a hole in the bottom it should explode

it won't explode cuz there isn't a single air pocket for the flame to go through

i think either potassium permanginate, or potasium clorate..im pretty sure permanginate, it will react with thermite and heat up until it ignites

I've only seen light emissions when thermite is burning ice. Is there any reason for this?

I would have rather have seen it explode AND hit them. Explosions are cool, but human stupidity can't be matched.

I didn't find anything negative about that comment. In fact, it seemed like genuine concern for this person's health.
If they had done it right, they might have been killed. Why not save some lives, eh?

the guy talking about the drop was right, try again with a bigger batch in a better containing vessel that will not melt (aka flower pot)
