I'm a huge fan of Metroid Fusion and Handheld gaming and trust me this game is the closest thing to MF and a 2D Metroid you will ever get in 2011 on any gaming platform.

I grew up with the jurassic era of the video games in the 80s and it's so great to have developpers like Way Forward with such love for the real era of video gaming.

Anyone who is bitching about this game being full 2D should just go watching the 99,9 other percent of current games made in 3D.

They did this game in 2D on PURPOSE , for all of us who grew up playing those games on arcades, NES, Master System, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, Super Nes or Genesis.

People who did enjoy games like Super Metroid, Aliens 3 and Metroid Fusion.

It's about substance over appearance.

BTW the graphics are beautiful here and way better than most 3D shit we get nowadays

Turned out to be a sweet game, but way too short and easy (except for the bosses who were just brutally straightforward)

If this had been twice as long with a proper ending then i would have cheered,

now though.. meh.. I had a great time but won't replay it.

I got the game yesterday afternoon and that evening I was already at the final boss battle (haven't defeated it yet).

I honestly liked Wayforwards' approach to this game and adding things like the UPP and non xenomorph enemies, but I honestly wish it was bigger and had more items to collect and stuff to explore.

I had hoped that Anchorpoint Station or Gateway would also be explored at some point.

@shadowupper I wasn't complaining about the graphics. I was replaying to Anemite's comment about the game being too short and having sucky extras. Compare the extras of Aliens Infestation with the ones of Contra 4, and you'll get an idea of how the extras content should have looked like in the first place. Also they placed so many "secret" passages in this game, just filled with useless ammunition and power up containers. Useless because, entering a save room reloads your weapon's anyway.

Reason why I still like them is because they remind me of the SNES, that is also why I liked the GBA a lot.

I honestly don't find it a bad decision to go with a more traditional approach as 3D games have a tendency to age very quickly.

When I first read your post I thought you were dissing the game because it was sprite based rather than going with the latest 'technology'.

To me gameplay is often more important than graphics, sure they have to look nice, but if sprites work better than 3D and can perhaps even made look better than I think they should go with that.

aliens colonial marines for the DS was originally an RPG title, but it was canned. now gearbox and sega despite canceling the title didn't want all that work to go to waste, in other words it was reworked into what you can see in the tease vid above.
