  • did you see that maxpedition has one coming out this year???

  • Not sure if you knew this but Maxpedition teamed up with Ribz and they are making a tougher version of the ribz. Milspec Monkey has the shot show video of it.

  • @srvvlhm I've seen a little bit on it. Thanks for the info.

  • i was trying to find "ribz" the uk grime artist. and ended up purchasing this rib pack! thanks

  • Hey Cr0cket20, is your last name actually Crocket? Mines Crockett, with two T's, live in Utah, and am a nature/hiking/outdoors freak as well haha! Must be crocket/t thing.

Oh and do you know if your related to the actual wild frontier davy crockett? Cause I am!

  • @crailberry Seriously! That's cool. No last name is not Crocket. Man it must be in your blood for sure.

  • @Cr0cket20 haha ya! Had a DNA test done and everything. Pretty sweet. Awsome pack review by the way, definitely something I need to look into.

  • Check Ribz site..SALE buy 1 and get 3 in camo..Closeout..just ordered mine...saw a comment on LateBoyScout from viewer.

  • For info on the new Maxpedition/Ribz collaboration look for the videos of Maxpedition at Shot Show 2012. That is where I saw them. Maxpedition of course beefed up the material and hardware strength as is their way. They also added hook and loop panels in the large pockets for their modular attachments or ccw use.

Just thought I would share, though now I don't know if I should get the Ribz now or wait for the Maxpedition version. LOL

  • What size Ribz did you get? This would be a great addon to my Maxpedition Falcon II. Great review!

  • @Grizzly907LA I just ordered the Falcon II. Right now I'm sporting the camo version. It's slightly bigger than the green and black. However, I think the green is very adequate. I just like the camo.

  • @Cr0cket20 what size is the one you have?

  • @12sick4x4 can't remember the exact specs, but the green and black version are the same size. The camo is slightly bigger. The new version (much better) is coming out sometime in March I think. There will be smaller version in addition to the standard version offered.

  • @Grizzly907LA FYI Maxpedition is coming out with a tactical version of this in partnership with Ribz

  • @illyounotme How much is going to cost compared to ribz pack?

  • Now that does look handy, thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks C.

I use the runners kitbag by hillpeoplegear. Stay safe.

  • it would make a great ammo carrier too:)

  • LOL, at 3:00 I think your brother was telling you "You're number 1" ! Great review, I getting one for same reason: tired of going in my pack for little shit I need on the trail...

  • Just used my Ribz for the 1st time today hiking to Angels Landing in Zion...Love it! perfect for a day hike, can't wait to try it w/a full pack for a longer trip! Thanks for doing the reviews you do!

  • @twa520 Angels Landing !!! That is a great hike. Hope you had fun.

  • @Cr0cket20 Hey crocket...do you still reccomend the Ribz? and did you get another one after that chipmunk ate your first one?

  • @0122358 Yes and yes.

  • hey crocket, do you find your self heating up more when its on you rather then no ribz?

  • @Tancrad Yes I do. However, I like it so much given what it offers that I can put up with it. That's just me though.

  • Thanks for the review, Buying one tonight would make for me a good medic line bag

  • It is suppose to read; " the squirrel won and ruined your Ritbz pack. " I was able to over ride the iPhone this time. There are times I hate smate phones but would be lost without it.

  • You usually have it packed and ready to go, in the garage. Then one a furry friend decided to hang out. Your friend got hungry and smelled sun flower seeds. He tore through the material zipper and all. The squirrel won and ruined your turns pack. Lesson learned remove food or evict squirrel. It looks sweet. Is there a web site to wear one can go to get one. Saw the other video so brought you up to date here. Happy hiking. Have a good day

  • @DennyRec Sit tight. I have a website that you may be interested in. I'll let you know as soon as I can find out more details.

  • today was the first day of hunting season, and you don't realize how hard just walking is while carrying just thirty pounds of gear! my problem is my blind is the heaviest and is normally carried on a pack...which means i cant wear my sitka on my back i have to move it to my front, also i have to carry my xbow, which i cant sling on my back because of the blind, this is the answer! plus no more laying all my gear out on the ground where i have to bend over to reach my stuff!

  • Great review, you addressed all of my concerns with this unit. My biggest is the heat being retained in your torso adding to already restricted air movement around your core during strenuous trail climbing. Sounds like in the Southeast US that this would be better for late fall/winter.

    Thanks for a thorough review!

  • I like it.

  • @GunsKnivesSurvival Me too. It's a piece of gear that would be hard to go without now that I've used it.

  • I've just purchased a Ribz frontpack, based on your video, and that of a gentleman who calls himself "oceanmountainsky." These things are amazing, and they hold quite a lot. They'll make it possible for me to stick to my Kelty Redwing, instead carrying a larger, heavier pack. Thanks for posting this video.

  • @dunfamalb That's cool you don't have to buy a new pack. Not only that but you get to have all the stuff you want at hand up front. I really like mine. Hopefully they improve on the straps in the future.

  • thanks man, just ordered one of these

  • Excellent reveiw on an awesome looking bit of kit, well done bro, now all i have ot do is find somewhere that sells this and ships international =[, again top job brother, best wishes and take care

  • Couldnt a coat with pockets do the same thing? Don't get me wrong, I like it and might buy a front pack for myself, but it seems like a scottie vest could do the same thing.

  • @thetommy1903 I thought the same thing before I bought the product. I tried outifitting a vest, but discovered the biggest pockets interfered with my pack's waist belt. The Ribz allow you to adjust their location to put them exactly where you want them. And they really hold a lot, especially in one place, as opposed to a vest, where the pockets are spread out. Alone, a vest will work just fine, but with a pack, not so well.

  • @dunfamalb ah i see, well that's good news.

  • @Cr0cket20. Just got mine in the mail yesterday. It is perfect and a great secondary pack to complement a backpack. Thumbs up and I give the pack a 9.4 out of 10. Great review and thanks again for the heads up.

  • Nice! I have the original Ribz pack and the new one looks a lot better, and larger, too. Do you have any idea how many cubic inches it is?

  • Awesome Crocket. I've been a couple cubic feet short on my backpack and never knew about this. Appreciate the heads up.

  • @Norskand67 Hope this is something that will work for you.

  • Quaker chewy bars hell yeah thats wat i pack too XD

  • nice review ... just checked amazon and all the ribz front packs are unavaliable ...lol i think u sold a few people on these

  • Well done Cr0cket! Fly fishing and balance were the first things I thought. Concur completely about getting thing from behind you. As a photographer, I quickly jumped on the backpack style camera bags...then quickly jumped off as I realized the system would be great if I was taking pictures with my butt! PITA

How have the zippers held up? From the vid, they don't look very 'heavy-duty.' If they failed, the entire system would be useless. Thanks for your reply.

  • What about using this with a bino harness ??

Assuming those pockets are big enough to just put the binos in...

  • might be handy, but damn, don't think i could stand the feeling, must make u feel fat and clumsy :D

  • Nice review for sure. Very interesting system. I see it working well in using a smaller backpack and augmenting it with this pack. Then you have the easy access of a lot of items plus storage of others and the typical day pack with everything else. I'm going to consider one of these for sure.

  • Great Vid Cr0cket20. Thanks again for your input on gear.

  • Had my eye on that for quite awhile now. Glad to see you like it as much as I thought I would. I always thought it was ingenious...Dash Riprock

  • @VideoJames11 there are two versions. The one in this vid is the latest version.

  • Another thing: this chestpack is ideal for hiking with a kid-carrier. My REI tagalong didn't have any cargo room, and its nice to have a sidearm and emergency supplies when on the trail with Jr. That was another consideration that led me to buy it.

  • when you wear just the front pack does it seem to weigh down in the front of you??

  • @joenkrystel I really don't notice it. But I don't fill it to capacity either.

  • @Cr0cket20 cool thanks, it seems like it would be a great way to always have those essentials on hand out there.

  • Crocket, I've had these Ribz for 5-6months now & i agree. Really like them. I found that if i have them full i just unzip the middle when i bend if needed. it allows greater R.O.M. Also,i'm a bigger guy & these fit very well [same version]. When i'm using them in high temp i've found that if i do not adjust them tight around my torso it allows air to circulate. This doesn't seem to affect how they ride for me either. i just tighten the upper back a little. glad to see someone else running RIBZ

  • I saw you wearing this in another video and bought the same one. I haven't used mine yet, but I agree with your criticism on the straps. The webbing is kinda cheap. Its a great concept, though. Thanks for the informative video.

  • @TheFlamethrowerGuy not sure if they were after weight savings or cost but I would prefer better quality straps.

  • Very nice review man! That pack looks like it works out great for your system. I really need to think about integrating something like that. I always have a hard time figuring out where to attach a gun or knife or where to stow my camera.

  • @SnowLobo95. So far has been the best system I've used for all of that.

  • hey crocket will this fit big men like 2x size thanks

  • ive been using a MOLLE vest and an old large alice pack...this front pack will help me seem less crazy to other hikers once i get my kelty external frame. thanks for the review

  • @VideoJames11 I really like it so far. It does have room for improvement.

  • this rig looks alot like rigs that they make for fly fishing i really like the design nice review thanks

  • Hope you take it to your next Nutnfancy adventure :)

  • Nice review on a handy piece of gear Crocket... well done. This is an functional solution to the accessibility issues inherent with backpacking. Personally, I've always tended to go with a simple "fanny pack" in the front for those frequent use items... I tend to go on the lighter side when backpacking, so this has worked excellent for that. For those requiring more gear when afield I think the Ribz Pack is an awesome addition to the system. Thanks for the review!

  • @intenseangler I've used that in the past as well. Like having that easy access to certain gear.

  • I've been waiting on this one & nice job on the review. As a fellow backpacker I know the importance of real estate on the front. I've always utilized shoulder straps, hip belt & chest pockets on rain jackets to stow gear on the front. The ribz pack seems like a great option to give versatility &/or a stand alone 10 essentials pack.

  • Thanks for the reply. I realy like the looks of that pack.. I often have the "I want something, but it is in my pack" problem.

  • I really like the concept, hopefully they'll work on the ventilation issue for warm weather use. Is is possible to attach it to your backpack? I could see situations where slinging both on as connected systems might be nice. You answered my question about getting in the way while bending over, thanks! Oh - would you like the next generation to include a nalgene/water bottle pouch? I guess you could use one of the horizontal pouches . . .

  • @drzmanproject One of the pouches would fit a 32 oz. water bottle. I've put it in there before but found it too cumbersome. Just me though. I suppose if this was a stand along system it would be nice to have a dedicated water holder. The way I'm running it I usually just use either my bladder hose from backpack or water bottle in the backpack side mesh pockets. I wonder if it would be too much bulk up front with the water bottle?

  • @Cr0cket20 Last year, I attached a camelback unbottle to the vertical and horizontal backstraps of the Ribz... it just works okay. However the D-Rings on the front are great for binos, and eliminates wearing a bino harness...

  • Very cool. Great review. Reminds me of the aarn body packs. Im not associated with them but you can check 'em out at aarnusa dot com

  • It's a super deluxe fanny pack. LOL

  • nice diaper carrier... nutnfancy

  • Great review Crocket. I've been looking at these for a while now, but couldn't pull the trigger. Your review is definitely pushing me there. Thanks

    Nate

  • good review!

  • That is a handy pack My one hike gut had one his suspenders came undone though allot

  • I don't know if anyone asked this already, but who makes your 1911?

  • @PointyMetalObjects He carries a Kimber 1911

  • @medicjimr Hm. I guess it's a TLE RL II. I didn't recognize it because the shorter slide is shrouded by the dust cover. And that beaver tail looks higher than normal, though I may be wrong.

  • @PointyMetalObjects And also what seems to be an external extractor. Doesn't Kimber do an internal one?

  • @PointyMetalObjects It is the TLE RL II. They ran for a little while with the external extractors. Had big problems with them and went back to the internal (as far as I understand). Had mine for many years with lots of rounds through. Hasn't been a problem.

  • @PointyMetalObjects not exactly sure he will chime in just know he has a kimber I would love to own one.

  • Thanks for the informative vid Cr0cket. You mentioned the zippers and it got me wondering about the center zipper that holds the two ribz together. Does it stay put at the top while your hiking or have you found that it slowly makes it's way down and you need to pull it back up every once in a while? Either way it looks like a great system to redistribute the weight and make gear accessible. Thanks again for the gear reviews!

  • Thanks so much for getting this review vid done Crocket, been looking forward to it for ages.

One big killer for me that I was thinking might ruin the whole idea for me - bad ventilation. That has made the decision for me, I just wouldn't keep it on and that would defeat the purpose of having it at all. I'll stick to cargo pockets and maybe a belt pouch for now I think. Thanks again for the review!

  • Crocket -- thanks for the review. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks for the heads up. And btw, the fall camo colorway is on sale on their site right now for 39.95.

  • This has BoB written all over it. It reminds me of an aircrewman's survival vest.

One question though - what size glove do you wear? I ask only to get an idea of how large are the horizontal pocket openings. I have really big paws and if the openings aren't large enough, a weapon draw would be next to impossible.

  • @wildcatactual Medium. I'll be honest, I don't think it will be a quick draw out of that pocket. I've thought about getting an Uncle Mike's holster to adhere in the pocket to help with a smother draw.

  • Great piece of gear! Thanks for getting this review out there Cr0cket!

  • Would like to get this pack but can only see available in USA.. anyone know of uk dealers?

  • @MrFermanaghman Believe Ribzwear send world wide, ribzwear.[ 0 /\/\

  • @NicklessMovies cool thanks must look into that

  • I've been waiting for that system to come out, I'll look around for this great piece of gear! Thanks cr0cket for the review!

  • did you mention if it was waterproof?

  • Sounds like a great piece of gear!

  • I agree with the previous comments:

This is one of the most useful reviews I have seen on You Tube.

Something about your casual/honest delivery style.

At least as good as nutnfancy and quality of character is so crucial for this to work on so many different levels. (for both of you guys)

Just know that you have your own 'Kind of quality' Cr0cket20

    Thanks

PS> And 3rd kind of cool. Don't ask me to describe it because if you have to ask....

  • Most interesting review I've seen on YT for weeks, thank you so much, it did look real practical on that nutn video. Keep up the good work!

  • @Varghjarta appreciate it.

  • Thanks for the great review, been waiting for it since you mentioned a possible review on the moonscape backpacking vid. Your review + camo version for 40 bucks= SOLD! Keep up the great vids!

  • very nice, where is it made

  • Great review. Thanks for your effort and keep up the good work! I always look forward to your videos.

  • Great review dude!

I agree that the price seems a bit steep.. but the ease of access to some items I think it might be a good addition down the road. I'm thinking maybe it'll be a good pack for trapping and setting snares. You could just pull some out and set them up without having to remove your pack.

    Thanks for the vid =D

  • @markshmily I just found the cammo one one eBay for 34 plus 10 shipping

  • @ironmonkeyz Score! Did you buy it?

  • @markshmily Yes sir! There are more at that price too.

  • Thats a smart idea for a pack. Good video.

  • @cr0cket20 Hey buddy, I just ordered the forest camo one its made of heavier material so I think it's 18 ozs but I am pretty notorious about being ruff on gear. Heading out on a camping hiking trip in 2 weeks, 7 mile hike maybe... Taking my daughter a long so we'll see how far we make it. Should be fun but I need away to carry my 40 cal as we'll be in bear country. Black not grizzly but with my daughter I take no chances. I'll let you know how I like it.

  • @ironmonkeyz have fun on ur trip. Sounds like fun.

  • Hey man, thanks for a great video. I'm taking off in a couple of days on a backpacking trip (after not having hiked for a LONG time). I've got a S&W 686P that I'm taking along as an anti 2/4 legged critter gun, and I hear you loud and clear about the packs hip strap competing with the holster strap on my belt. Have you ever run with a leg holster? I'm loving that ribs system, but don't think I can get it in time. Thanks again.

  • @noBuzzkillin I have not run with a leg holster. However, I think I would really like the functionality. But I like to keep my gun out of sight even when in the mountains...at least on popular trails. Have the 686 (non P version) and enjoy it. Only revolver I have.

  • Already got mine, dude. Desperate to get out for a day-hike and try it out. I think it's an awesome design and concept. Very well executed with just a little room for improvement.

  • @TheLateBoyScout Well said.

  • I did see the camo is on sale for 40 bucks, I like the idea of the pack being under the jacket out of the weather

  • @beast12101 From what I've seen $40 is a pretty good price.

  • i bet nutnfancy gets one :)

  • Next thing you know is that nutn is packing AR mags in those bags.

  • @ChaohsiangChen give it a week and there will be a video on it lol.

  • Great video. Very informative. This does seem like a smart choice when you look at it. For me heavy yet important things in my pockets or even in belt pouches tend to sag down my pants. And they might pop out when you have to pull down your pants.

  • I kinda like it. Sort of like a modified vest. Man I can't believe that gun fit into that small pocket. Not a lightning draw, but quick enough draw for sure. It beats moving stuff around on your hip & trying to dig it out without a negligent discharge. Just for fun, would you consider chest carry in a WROL situation (ie: flashing is not an issue), or if you knew you were going strictly solo? It would free up even more space for stuff. The birth of a new system! Take care, brother.

  • @sabr686 I guess it would depend on how everything else was situated on the body. My fav place is just the good ol' fashion hip carry, but if that weren't an option I don't think I'd mind chest carry at all.

I've thought if I had to draw quick out of this system it may snag some coming out. Not a quick draw at all as you said.

  • Very nice setup sir!

  • ....I have a similar system from Mountainsmith and Maxpedition....although I have not purchased Ribz, the basic system / concept is great.....I have found it very beneficial while on a bike or motorcycle...thanks,I will now consider Ribz.........hike safe....hello to all your family...

  • Very nice, I like that system for ease and accessibility of essential items.

  • Nice cr0cket. I might wanna get one someday soon for my man diapers and wipes lol! Aside from jokes it seems like a great and organized system.

  • @survivalkiing LOL it stores those diapers and wipes very well ; )

  • Great system very smart. it might look different but if it works great why not.

    Schmoo

  • Thanks Crocket for the review - I've been looking at these for awhile but haven't seen any reviews of it. I also wish there was an area for a water bottle. Is any of the pockets big enough for a 32 oz nalgene?

  • @BSRadar100 Yes. Both the main pockets will fit a 32 oz. However, while it works I personally find it a bit too full in there. However, that's just a personal preference.

  • @Cr0cket20 Guess it's not a deal breaker if you have a hydration pack.

  • So glad you finally reviewed these Crocket. I've been waiting to hear what you thought about them before I decided to make the purchase. Thanks!

  • Often times I'll use my fishing vest for a lot of this kind of storage... However, I like Crocket's solution more because there are only straps going over your chest and shoulders with the Ribz..

  • why dont you just use belt webbing???? it works the exact same but its more breathable and you can customize the pouches

  • How is the balance? do you find you need or want a small backpack to balance your load?

  • @jeeperoo84 Not at all. I'll often wear it around camp. But I don't have it stuffed to the max either.

  • Great review Cr0cket! Looks like a good system for you. I would like a small water bottle pocket somewhere on it myself.

  • why wouldnt they zip from the top down

  • Excellent review. I was thinking that the zippers should be reversed in direction because of the occasional snag pulling them down and open. Also I was working out while watching so I might of missed it, but a small first aid kit should be carried in the front as well. Great kit.

  • I was waiting for your review on that. It just seems to me it would be too restrictive and cumbersome. Seems like it would get in the way of your arms. How does it breathe? With the pack on your back and essentially one on your front too, how does that affect your sweat factor and air movement? My next trip, I am going to try out, what appears to be an awesome fanny pack. It is an Outdoor Products Essential waist pack. I'll let ya'll know how that goes.

  • You touched a bit on the straps, but do they dig in your shoulders? And did you move down to a smaller back pack bc of the more pouches in the front?

  • @ScoutsNOA I have not noticed that they dig in the shoulders at all. I suppose one could move down to a smaller pack. I'm still running with my same pack though.

  • Definitely agree with the quality of material for the straps. Not so good for the 60 dollar price point. I’m working on replacing mine with some better quality nylon and also redesigning the way the straps route across the back. I think a simple crisscross will work but we’ll see. Thanks for the vid!

  • I think the pouches them self some kinda support to prevent bulging like when you real pack it, other wise I think it's real good cool product.

  • Awesome review, seems very handy for carrying those items that you need to access frequently.

  • Have you noticed if the pack puts any strain on your back?

  • @scarney19 Have not noticed at all.

  • try switching to a bic lighter i noticed that the cheapy brands can break easier

  • HD videos lately......someone must have gotten a new camera

  • Is that the "Alpine Green" selling for 64.99 on the Ribz website?

  • @PrepperAZ

    Yes

  • Nice piece of gear. Might pick one up.
