Jon, your style is refreshing in many aspects. That's the way I used to play when I was your age. Meanwhile I find it helpful to sing along, at least in my mind, as I play. A pianist's fingers don't have to breathe, but the congregation does. Check with your music director, of course, and if he approves, consider adjusting the "metronome" one notch slower for the sake of the Lord's people whose singing you are supporting through your playing. (Please pardon my unbidden comment.)
