  • does any1 know the name of the song?

  • @opforce you have no idea what you are talking about, 1st, you don't USE an instrument you PLAY an instrument. 2nd, these two instruments are completely diffferant, piano music is written in two registers and guitar in one. 3rd, piano requires you to play two differant melodies at once. So taken from this guitar players perspective, the piano is a more challenging instrument. IMHO

  • Anybody know what tuning he uses most frequently?

  • @bobmango54 Open E

  • So awesome

  • i heard him with bb king, santana and mclaughlin on the same stage. he is in that class, even better maybe

  • I was at this concert :) ITS BLEW MY FRICKIN MIND!!!!!!!

  • @Bluesboyfella Hell yeah, me too! 15th row center on the floor!

  • John Mayer shits on slash.

  • He does the death star note at about 45 sec. in. Nasty. Derek eats, breathes, and shits excellence.

  • @barbender9 Haha, similar in tone to the nefarious "brown note" but deeper in scope...

  • the word 'awesome' is redundant

  • Absolutely fantastic!!!!

  • When i heard this solo, my balls contracted into my body..

  • @rockingrugger THAT IS THE BEST COMMENT EVER! I NEEDED THAT! WE SAID AND ROCK ON!

  • @qtofdog Hahaha, thanks mate, you too!! :)

  • derek the elf

  • my friend and i call this the blue balls solo, you see why

  • hurr which one is derek trucks hurr hurr

  • Totally love this solo. Really hits the spot for me. Without wanting to start another argument. I find it really funny how guitar players get turned into sports men/women by the public. It's all about speed and scales and sound. Who is better than who. Who can burn the other in guitar hell. Makes me laugh!! Maybe everyone should play the same so we can all get on!!!

  • Look man if you don't like Derek trucks then go back to your AC/DC and Van Halen videos and let us enjoy these in peace. That's the beauty of music - everyone should have someone that makes the hairs on their arms stand up when you hear them. If this isn't it for you so be it.

  • You guitar players make me laugh. Every goddamn time I go to a video of any guitar player, without fail there is an argument in the comment section about who's better than who and this guy was way better than that guy and blah blah blah blah. Grow the fuck up. Music is a conversation taking place in real time and if you can't appreciate great musicians for what they have to say, then you really don't get it. And most of you never will...

  • @andyboterman Amen brother! How music moves someone is such an individual thing. People just use youtube as a forum to bitch and troll, its sad.

  • @andyboterman That is a true comment, I agree 100%, what defines better...

  • @andyboterman Well at least somebody gets it...

  • @andyboterman that might be the greatest comment i have ever read ..and i play guitar

  • @andyboterman turns out comments are made by guthrie govan and joe satriani, wouldnt that be funny?

  • @andyboterman Haters gonna hate

  • @andyboterman

I would bet 10 $ Most of those argueing who s the best / better guitar player dont play the guitar themselves

or else they would realize that everyone of there Guitar Heroes is great

They are just DIFFERENT they need to learn the meaning of that Word

For example Greg Howe is a great Jazz guitarist & Paul Gilbert is a great Heavy Metal guitarist they are

    both amazing but different

  • @andyboterman Thank you forever, that is all.

  • best thing in the world

  • what song is this from?

  • OMG I havent watched this in a while but still one of my favorites on you tube DT amazing

  • without Duane there would not even be Derek...let's not forget that! Duane set the standard for slide guitar and is probably the greatest, if not the greatest, guitar player of all time. I have no doubt Derek is on his way to that title down the line, but let's not crown Derek without acknowledging Duane's influence on his playing.

  • I've been seeing Derek since he was 14 playin bars in Fla. He has never ceased to amaze me live.

  • that is one madass solo . it reached my soul . every single note .

  • I just noticed the comment about Dimebag Darrel "taking a shit" on Jimmy Page in terms of guitar playing ability, and I've officially declared it the most incorrect thing ever concieved by a human being.

  • @opforce3 page is garbage

  • @brandobum9 If Page is garbage, I lack the vocabulary to describe the absence of greatness in Dimebag's plying.

  • @opforce3 i agree

  • @opforce3 They are very different guitar players and can't be compared.

  • @opforce3 could not agree more, c'mon. a keyboard is a lot easier to use than a guitar

  • @opforce3 the problem with these people is they don't understand that each guy has his forte. dimebag could shred. page...well he just ripped us all new assholes.

  • @opforce3 lol so true. Fuck him

  • why the fuck are you people talkin about dime while watchin derek that is what i hate about utube everyone says my guys better and then actually try to prove their point w negative comments just shut the fuck up and enjoy or go to a diifferent video

  • is just music doin its thing...aye

  • Duane could hit the note as far as feeling and pounding your soul he had it but this kid is fuckin great for his own thing

  • Duane could hit the note as far as feeling and pounding you soul he had it but this kid is fuckin great for his own thing

  • From what concert is this video exactly?

  • @sandmanrulz not a concert vid its september 16th 2006 in stpaul MN and i flew form alaska to see it!! :DDD it was amaazzzinnggg

  • any words would be too much....

  • Please don't make derogatory remarks about the dead. Besides, both Duane and Derek are great! You have to consider, also, that Duane played and recorded an incredible amount of great guitar work during a few years of his very short life!!

  • @EVANDERLAZER ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING DUANE AND DEREK ARE BOTH EXCELLENT AND EXTREMELY TALENTED SLIDE GUITARISTS BUT AS FAR AS DEREK BLOWING DUANE OUT OF THE WATER YOUR OUT OF YOUR MIND DEREK IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH DUANE BUT BETTER THAN I DONT THINK SO

  • OMGGGG I want to learn that lick at the end so freakin' bad

  • Goosebumps - sonic soul shivers

  • Trucks my ass ! Thats pure Allman talent, why else was he groomed from birth & made a member of the Allman Brothers Band at age 14.

Look at him, a pure clone of Gregg Allman !!

    no disrespect intended, but damn....

  • @FIRECRACKER392 Duane Allman, not Gregg.

  • .... incredilble.. tht harmony thing he does with the two string slide sounds awesome ! (1:15)

  • Wow! 0:48 - 0:49 sounds just like a few notes from Frampton Comes Alive - Do You Feel Like We Do quitar/pedal/talk-box solo

  • The crap he's doing at the end is flipping crazy...so hard to sound like that on slide he's one of a kind...

  • Which concert vid is this off of? Xroads 2005?

  • on pure god given ability rather than "old man rep", Trucks blows Duane out of the fucking water. People are way too nostalgic with past guitar players, like they can't be dethrowned for some taboo fucking reason. Dimebag Darrel on pure god given ability takes an absolute shit on Jimmy Page. You appreciate the past guitar players for setting the trend, but on ability? they've been passed by a country mile, and all the nostalgic crowd have as a defense is "more soul". Fuck off.

  • @evanderlazer it's not soul. it's not a question of technical ability either. it's more than that.

it's the instruments they used at the time. the equipment they used at the time. the style of their rhythm sections at the time. the way they learned to play at the time. and to a large extent, the way they were limited technically, such that they were forced to sound the way they sounded.

  • @evanderlazer

these days you have 5 or 6 rack effects giving you what is perceived as good tone. back then, they'd crank their 50-watters and hear the speakers reaching breakup point.

  • @evanderlazer Dimebag would suck Page's dick.. TWO TIMES!!

  • @groovygrandmaprod lol shouldn't you be on your knees sucking your dads little dick with a pair of tweezers or someting.

  • WOULD suck his dick? you kidding? theres a reason hes called "dimebag"...

  • @evanderlazer Dude no disrespect but how can you even compare Jimmy Page to Dimebag Darrel, LOL. Two completely different genres :O Just because JP doesn't play some technical wankery, unlike Dimebag, who I personally think is so over rated, his solo's are actually laughable. Anyway this is besides the point. Look up Robert Fripp, John McLaughlin, Ry Cooder. Man these guys are pioneers. You can't deny that. You need to start somewhere and that's where Duane really get praise. I love you. xxxx

  • @evanderlazer Totally wrong dude. Not even Hendrix "shits" on Page (even though Hendrix is definitely better). You can't just say someone blows someone else out of the water without giving reasons. And if Allman and Page weren't around these guys would have been no where near as good as Allman and Page were in their time. You're not gonna say someone shits on Robert Johnson.

  • @surrealdub jimmy page -> rock and roll's all time greatest thief. he owes randy california a thanks to say the least. robert johnson -> if clapton hadn't shot his load over johnson's tombstone, you'd have no clue who he is.

  • @gregg441 and you get your info from who?

  • @surrealdub you clearly don't listen to a lot of music if you have to ask

  • @gregg441 your wrong. i do listen to a lot of music just not randy california. no matter what jimmy page will always be a legend just like jimi hendrix will. Do you call hendrix a thief for integrating curtis mayfield's rhythm guitar style into his own.

  • @surrealdub Of course he'll be a legend, so long as philistines such as yourself keep putting him on a pedestal. he's talented, no doubt, but when his most famous song(stairway) is essentially a note for note ripoff of Spirit's 'Taurus', he's not being original, he's just being a thief.

There is a difference between music being a derivative of an older genre or musician (hendrix) and blatantly ripping off others(page). thats why anyone who has actually studied rock music knows page is a thief

  • @surrealdub now get back to your bubble of blissful ignorance and enjoy some killer slide

  • @gregg441 haha your confusing note for note with songs with the same structure. of course page would take that sound and build from there. It's just like how so many musicians take the same style from p-funk's maggot brain and just change up the backing chords and key a bit. and ignorant or not, stairway to heaven still seems to be more famous than taurus. that's not just because people aren't musically savvy enough. it's because page added so many more levels to it that spirit couldn't.

  • @evanderlazer i understand. but not everyone, including me, think of guitar player in terms of ability as in techniques. musicians have different approach to music. this is what so great about music and art forms. thoughts and energy are unique to each individual musician. that is what's missing when we judge or compare one musician with another. putting all your feeling to 1 note also takes ability, don't get stuck to the idea of 'ability' as just how fast or complicated one's playing is.

  • @bhumimanusha not at all. I like Trucks ability to make his guitar sound very much like a black lady singing scales up and down the fret board. His use of semi tone slides and his strength to move in and out of different patterns, keeping with the original them and vibe of the song. Thats way more impressive then simply. "sliding with ragly vibrato"

  • @evanderlazer the point is that many modern guitarists made a sport out of playing guitar because the style-evolution had a tendency to speed but yeah one can overdo it by ignoring other important - WAY MORE important - factors of music. I can't stand that Dragonforce for example - but I respect the skills. Still I would not call it the ability to make great music but the ability to move the fingers faster than an average person ;)

  • @evanderlazer i'd have to say then that dimebag darrel has also been surpassed by a number of people

  • @lazer59882 doubtful.

  • @evanderlazer its a matter of subjectivity. dimebag darrell could only play one style. someone like a john frusciante easily surpasses him. and now that i think about it, so does jimmy page. dimebag is criminally underrated by most people, but also criminally overrated by everyone else. being dead always makes people think you're the greatest.

nevermind dude. we don't agree, and probably won't.

  • @evanderlazer in the end though, it's the soul that people remember. Jimi hendrix was famous for 4 years before he died and most guitar today still see him as the best. The shredders of the last 10 years won't be remembered in say 25 years even if they're still alive

  • @theSodMonster Jimi Hendrix was very sloppy, just because he wore a head band, head wavy hair shaking back in forth with his eyes half closed does in no way translate to "better" or "more soul" try again.

  • @evanderlazer what would you know about more soul anyway? oh wait let me guess you're a blues guitarist and have been playing for over 20 years. that's what everyone on youtube seems to be these days

  • @theSodMonster lol shut the fuck up, I'm 20 years old and I play metal you fucking retard, quit assuming you fuckin gbutt hurt faggot piece of goat shit.

  • @evanderlazer gbutt?

  • @evanderlazer Lol you have Childron of Bodom under Music. Are you kidding me. Why are people like you even allowed to view videos that actually contain music instead of constant angry wanking. I remember when I liked that shit a couple years ago.

  • @goldenchopsticks Don't criticize other peoples music. If you told me what I write wasn't "under music" then I would break your jaw. I don't like Children of Bodom but I wouldn't say that it's not music. Why are people like you even allowed to post comments instead of keeping your hate to yourself and constantly wanking.

  • @evanderlazer what you call sloppy other people call emotion. Not all of us can play scales mindlessly over and over for hours. If you actually think that he is sloppy then you are obviously ignorant. He played exactly what he wanted to play. Of course there are live performances where he was way to high and fucked up, but shit, that's life. That doesn't make him sloppy, perhaps inconsistent, but you could characterize any drug abuser that way.

  • @evanderlazer AMEN

  • @evanderlazer

Who the fuck are you to pass judgment? You lash out against bigots who refuse to look at today's guitarists like Trucks and Dimebag with an open mind, yet, you are also a bigot for refusing to reflect on guitarists of old and accept the possibility that they (whoever you want to identify) may have been more proficient with the axe than the current crop. Then again, your last "sentence" summed you and your attitude up pretty well.

  • @evanderlazer

    Sorry dude

I love all the new guitar players but

    Jimmy Hendricks is the best

Listen to some of his stuff he is simply amazing

Jimmy had no Jimmy to copy his licks off of

and players are still trying to get his sound

  • @jgresham1974 Jimi Hendrix*

  • @evanderlazer

anyone who rates dimebag darrel as a guitarist has no say in the matter.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @evanderlazer jimmy page rocks, and so does dimebag. you dont need to cut anyone down, i hope you dont think of hendrix as overrated

  • @evanderlazer I hear you, but don't forget, Duane died young and really only played slide about 4 years. To have gotten where he did in that short period of time is pure talent. Derek has taken what Duane put out and expanded on it over about 20 years, so it stands to reason that he's better now than Duane. The road was paved for all the young guitar players by someone else. I saw Derek at 13 with Butch and his sister and brother fronting his own band, opening for Skynyrd at the Fox in Atlanta.

  • @evanderlazer Are you kidding me? Trucks is FANTASTIC, but he's no Duane. With another decade or two I can see him becoming better though, only time can tell really.

  • @evanderlazer if it wasn't for those guitar players, there would be no derek trucks... derek looked up to duane and for you to say that derek blows him out of the water is pretty shitty to say and means that you probably aren't smart enough to realize that every famous guitar player is good and that you shouldn't rank them. it is pretty to see that you aren't smart because you are getting mad about nothing and resort to cursing to show emphesis

  • @mrsneakychewbacca Right on the money bud! haha

  • @evanderlazer wait i just looked up dimebag darrel and i had to refer back to your spelling of him because he didnt come up in the top hits on the youtube search bar unlike jimmy page, and i dont understand how you could compare two guitar players with completely different guitar styles. if you listen to some of the best guitar players and most well respected they will say that they got good when they realized that they dont have play fast, but when they started to playing slow

  • @evanderlazer bro music is sooo much about feeling. the fact that you said that thing about dimebag darrel leads me to believe that you have no idea how to play a guitar. paige has the most feeling in rock and roll.

  • @evanderlazer I can see where you're coming from but you are wrong. I'm sorry. Dimebag Darrel really? you actually think that way? Listen harder my friend.

  • @evanderlazer and what defies ability to you? speed? You "Fuck off"

  • @woahitslindsayy take it easy there old timer, wouldn't want you to breaka hip or have a collapsed lung ensue, lord knows I've caused one too many old timers to fall at the hands of me.

  • @evanderlazer lol i would imagine so, at 18 i guess i am an old timer to ya

  • @woahitslindsayy .....Sure

  • @evanderlazer i tend to agree with you on some points. but i completely disagree that Dimebag Darrel takes an absolute shit (what does that even mean? but anyway..) on Jimmy Page. maybe you should listen to some more Zeppelin.

  • @JoeD642 get back to me, when page plays something OTHER than a pentatonic scale with a few bends in between.

Do me a small favour, go listen to the sleep, domination and medicine man by Pantera. Then get back to me.

My ears hear what they hear, Despite stairway to heaven being what it is, an iconic opening riff with a dark, interesting history about how it was wrote and played etc

The solo is just too typical and predictable. I'm talking in terms of PURE technical ability, nothing else

  • @evanderlazer who gives a shit about stairway dude? don't just listen to studio recordings, watch zeppelin. watch them live, thats what matters. jimmy page is one of the few most unique electric guitarists of the century. and though its a matter of opinion, dimebag darrel does not fall into the category of "one of the few"

  • @evanderlazer sorry for double post but..

jimmy page knows how to play much more than just a pentatonic scale with a few bends..thats gotta be one of the most moronic things ive ever heard.

  • @JoeD642 trust me, the guy has no creativity, pentatonic sclaes with a few melodic runs to keep the nostalgic crowd happy.

You can't be reasoned with, Page is quite sloppy aswell, theres a vid on YT that slows his music down, and he flubs and nicks on half the solo's he plays

Some people just can't accept the fact that the legends of there time have been surpassed and thats understandable, it's hard to let go and be unbias

Page is just way too predictable, way, way, WAY too predictable.

  • @JoeD642 I'm done arguing with you, I technically hear what I want to hear, I like hearing more than just pentatonic scales with 4, 5 melodic notes in between to give the effect that he knows more than just a pentatonic run.

And to be fair, I just chose dimebag off the top of my head, I could've chosen Johnson, Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert, Friedman etc

Its just preference, I like originality and creativity, you like 70's pentatonic runs with bad distortion

To each his own, Leave me alone now

  • @evanderlazer LOL whos the one arguing?

    but youre wrong

  • @evanderlazer

Hahaha did you just try to quote theory to try to prove your point?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Dimebag better than Page? On what grounds could you possibly base that? You are a fool.

  • @evanderlazer man dimebagg darrell had ability but he couldn't be better than page about composition dimebagg darrell didn't make stairway to heaven anyway just listen the music fool

  • @evanderlazer you are incredibly stupid. and you have a very poor vocabulary to boot .here's some advice for you. when you don't know what your talking about, keep your mouth shut , so you don't make a fool out of yourself.

  • @evanderlazer best relax boy.

  • Oh man is amazing . the best slide solo ever !

  • Incredible.

  • @mrlimpman haha not really, any random could do the first note XD

  • great video!!!

  • Duane Allman used to use a Coricidin bottle as his slide - not sure what Derek uses.

  • what tunings does he use?

  • @muzzleflash7 open E

  • chills n goosebumps at 1:26. WOW

  • Its really been a year since someone's commented...man.

Derek Trucks is the shit, plays with from the soul.

  • holy shit anyone know

what this song is this has to be

the best slide solo ive ever heard

  • I can't even begin to describe how amazing this solo is....

    Derek is the man!

    Great clip

  • is this a solo in a song or just a on the spot improv

  • Great! He's Real Bluesman!

  • at first they used the neck of a beer bottle and was called"bottle neck guitar"

  • never to late for those who think they've never been ignorant

  • great playing...

  • wow, I love this guys playing! He has a mature style of playing (leaves out the right notes) . we need more of this attitude in treating music with respect, and less autotuned fast food. i watched some videos with Derek Trucks and the allman bros...amazing.

  • haha you're all idiots for not spotting the troll

  • That is one of the truly great guitar solos of all time. I play slide and the expertise required to pull off those moves is mind boggling.

  • very nice

  • oh my god you cant be serious!!!thats a slide hahahahaha,yes....slides help with sliding

  • Well, if you ever check out the Derek Trucks band, you will see that Derek is creating new and unique sounds exclusive to him -- not just trying to be like Duane. My point is, just because Derek plays with the Allmans and is deeply connected to that family, that doesn't mean he is only following in the footsteps of Duane. Check out some DT Band and you will witness some true genius and creativity. Solos like in Mahjoun are simply ridiculous...

  • Oh please...he is good, but to put him higher than Duane Allman is talking through your arse..For some decent slide with out all the flash crap thrown in by Trucks try listening to the master ..Ry Cooder...

  • no dude he had a broken finger.. A lot of guitarists use those little casts when they need to. lol

  • god damn, i could keep watching this video all night long, thank god for guitarists like derek who play the blues carrying the music on through this generation, Long live the fuckin BLUES!!!!

  • FINISH THIS NEXT LINE:

    This Video,

  • I dont thing

ottomatic814 was serious. At least I hope not.

  • So much soul, Duane allman = Derek trucks, there is no greater or less then in my opinion.

  • AWESOME came across derek from livestream in Philly on npr that wxpn show live on fridays. Amazing musician

  • it's a satanist sex toy that gives you demonic powers to slide and arouse homos in the audience you twat

  • Thanks for capturing this moment. I love when the crowd goes wild.

  • I just discovered Derek Trucks. I'm very impressed! I'm happy to have a new artist to listed to.

  • its pretty much a bottleneck and without it you can't slide

  • skillful!!

  • "Cool" is not appropriate for this. This is beyond. :-)

  • Which is the Dereks set up? Anybody knows?

  • I am so very tired of Duane Allman cultists on these videos. He's a great player, but dying tragically does not make you untouchable. There is a very real chance that Derek Trucks is a better musician than Duane Allman, however, if you prefer Duane's playing, it doesn't matter. I come from that small group of people who think Warren Haynes is the greatest man to ever pick up a guitar. DA fans need to relax and allow other people their preferences.

  • OMG.

  • hey does anyone know if this is a solo to a specific song or improvised?? are there other solos he does like this one? im brand new to dereks style, its amazing.

  • i was at this concert. rediculous.

  • .... i give up. that was the sickest solo out.

  • ahhh.. sexy. No guitar compares to the SG when playing with bottle neck! (not even the LP!!)

  • wow i really wish i could play the slide that smooth. then again he's derek trucks lol

  • trucks totally schools duane allman. thats all that needs to be said. not only can trucks kill on blues, but he can play beautiful melodies and crazy jams with a slide. don't get me wrong, i like duane allman. but i LOVE! derek trucks. he gives me the chills.

  • Aside from Robert Randalf, probably the best slide guitarist out there. Amazing.

  • Wow! But I prefer the slide to be on my pinky... Just saying...

  • "What is that glass thing on his finger? Does that help with sliding? "

    HAHAHAHA ottomatic814

    What a noob!

  • YAY!! HE'S MY CUZ!!

  • my friend and I call this the "blue balls solo"...i wonder why

  • HOLY CRAP!

  • Classier than a concert violinist, yet dirtier than pork barbecue ribs...

    Derek Trucks is the MAN.

  • is that glass thing on his finger to keep it protected? (like the hand model in "Zoolander")
