  • Will that help control a dog's bad breath?

  • can dogs die from it?

  • Sorry, but I don't believe in using anesthesia to clean dog's teeth regardless of how safe people say it is. Some...may not wake up! Most dogs can tolerate it.

  • originally they offered (at my vet) dental work without anesthesia. Anyhow they did an AMAZING job and my dog (according to them) was wonderfull. Due to a stupid goverment law they stopped offering it. Now my dog who has a tartar problem wont be able to go for a cleaning. The price went from 50 bucks to at least $400.

  • No such law... Believe me

  • My little she dog needs clenaing but I´m worried about anesthesia also. But, what can we do? I hurts to have your teeth cleaned without it.

  • I can clean them without anesthesia. Even using ultrasonic. No laws doing it without anesthesia. 99 percent of the time, I have no trouble. Vets don't want to go through the struggle and time and with lab work and anesthesia, the bill can go over 300-400 bucks.

There are some vets that offer it, but some don't. Some people do it without vet supervision, but that is technically illegal, but as I said, some do and do a very good job if they use ultrasonic.

  • Thanks for the advice.

  • I´n my country there are no laws for dogs, but I´m not concerned if I can or can´t use the ultrasonic method in here. What I´m concerned if there any vet that does it in here. I´m interested in my pets well being. :)

  • Well, if your dog's teeth is so bad, it's better to have the dog put under anesthesia than letting the teeth go bad. So much bacteria can lead to bad heart, kidney and overall poor health. Anesthesia isn't as bad as it used to be...at least here. I truly believe that between having no cleaning versus having them put under, I'd pick putting them under and having it done or else there will be major periodontal problems whick will cause other cascading effects.

  • Well, her teeth aren´t tha terrible. She has bad breath though, and I´ll brush her teeth at least once a day from now on.

  • Hate to tell you this, but bad...I mean bad breath is a sign of trouble. You should get it cleaned first then maintain it. If the build up is touching the gums or obvious swelling/redness, then brushing alone isn't good enough.

  • My she doggie is 8 years old. She had, 2 years ago had cataracts removal done. Now, I don´t know why I´m so wirried about anesthesia now.

  • 8 years old is still young. Small dog can live to 18 and larger dogs can live to about 12-14, depending on their diet.

  • ¿What do you mean by diet cumitran?

  • No table food. I.E. don't eat the same food you do. Get higher quality dog food with less fillers etc. Some company uses corn etc. as fillers. But higher quality food that contains potatoes, fish etc. you can actually feed them less and they get more nutrition.

  • Raw meat such as bone marrow and chicken is also good. It helps them to digest the food better.

  • Table food and processed dog food is also what causes teeth problems. Look at the dogs in the wild such as wolves and coyotes. Do they have teeth problems? They only have starvation and predation/natural selection problems.

  • cool
