it really depends on what school you train. some kru teach to have both hand up when you throw the kick. and then whip the hand down afte conncecting. but if your dropping the right hand, at least get the shoulder up to cover the chin
Yes, he is dropping his right hand as he throws the right mid-level Thai kick. That's done on purpose for two general reasons: (1) to provide a counter balance and (2) to add more power to the kick. He's doing what I am asking him to do. Various coaches will teach this kick in different ways. Some actually teach keeping the right hand either up in a guarded position or straight ahead toward the opponent's face. I have found the particular method shown in this clip to be a better choice.
