I AM CANADIAN! it is important to note that the 1974 summit series was won by the CCP/RUSSIA/SOviet union and was won very handedly! the actual tournament rules which was agreed apon by both teams was that the team with the best goal differential at the end of the series was the winner! by midway through it became a laugher and CCP clearly had it won so they began resting their players to make it more interesting. Canadians are vbery strange people so tey told their people back home different

Yes the Soviets and Canada had two great teams in the 70s.If all the great players had gotten together it would of been one great series. I would of liked to see the Red Army team play an 8 game series against the Montreal Canadians in 1976 i think that was the year the Canadians only lost 7 games all year.That game they played which ended in a tie game was one great game and Tretiak stoled that game:} The Sovitsand Canada had two great teams and any game they played could of went either way

@fklifter1 I mean no disrespect, but for the 1976 Canada Cup the following players were NOT sent to play for the Soviets: the Kharlomov-Petrov-Mikhailov line (best in the world at that time, IMO), and Shadrin and Yakushev, and a few others, I believe. Hence Canada-CSSR final. The starting line-up sequence for the Canada-CCCP game, while available, was not included on the 76 Canada Cup DVD set, possibly to draw attention away from the Soviet absentees?

@MadcapLaugh3 Im not saying that the names you mentioned werent great players but you must remember that the CCCP team was made up mostly of Red Army players who played together for 12 months of the year while Canadian teams were made up of the best players in the NHL who dont play together 12 months of the year and this is why you see Canadian teams do better the longer a series goes on. If you take the top 3 players in the NHL and put them together they would be just as good as this line IMO

Damn, we fans were denied 2 TRUE best-on-best series!

That is 2 years later, the Canada Cup was the best of the best playing the best from different nations and made for some exciting hockey. Great Soviet Players, that year Canada won and we beat The Czech's to do it, they also had a great team. But clearly the Canadian side was a notch above.
