  • There is nothing academic about the music of Saariaho; it is fresh, beautiful, and mysterious. Grossly overrated are the American minimalists.

  • Saariaho is one of those overrated European modernist darlings writing boring academic music the general public doesn't give a damn about but which is nonetheless immensely popular with that small clique of modern-music-aficionados....
