Finally a play which clearly demonstrates the travel rule. He takes many steps (approx 5) after he takes his last dribble, but he clearly only takes two steps after PICKING UP his dribble.

I have tried to explain this a million times to youtube dumbasses who think every highlight in the NBA is a travel.

@BillORele As far as I know... once you are in the possesion of the ball, you should dribble at least every 2 steps, if not... it's travel. If there's no contact from another player you can't take 4 steps before your last dribble unless is the first time you contact the ball in this play... (I repeat... as far as I know)

Parker takes lots of steps after his last dribble, but he hasn't picked up the ball yet. You can see him take two obvious steps once he picks up the ball, that's why this is not a travel.

If the rules were as you say, this would be an obvious travel and the refs would not miss it.

What you need to know is that your dribble doesn't finish when the ball bounces- it finishes when you hold the ball (either with both hands as in this clip, or with one hand by putting your hand under the ball or pinning it to your body). What this means is that while the ball is bouncing, if you haven't picked it up you can take as many steps as you want. You can do the riverdance if you want before you hold the ball.

@lidgerwood OMG THANK YOU. an intelligent person, finally! many people don't understand that as long as you have a live dribble without gathering the ball with both hands or carrying, you can basically step as wide as small and as many steps you want. for instance in this video, parker took three dribbles after the steal, gathers the ball and only takes two steps.
