Tape the wires to a penny and you have a dead short with no resistance - you Might have more luck taping one wire to the penny and the other to the edge of the plate but I doubt it

Replace the penny with a piezoelectric element and it will actually work - though "Hi-Def" it will never be. Come on guys, use your brains. There is nothing in this build that moves air even the slightest millimeter. Sound is made by moving air back and forth, that's literally what sound is. If you could make decent speakers with tin foil and paper plates there would be disposable speakers all over the place.

It actually does work under ideal conditions. It is known as "dead short" resonation. Similar to the 60-cycle hum you hear from a heavily-loaded facility breaker panel. NOT good for the amplifier's health. Use a 4ohm resistor instead of the penny. You can even modulate sound onto the arc of a welder, but it is a stupid experiment - just like this one.
