  • I wrote a longer comment but Youtube ate it. :(

Basically: well done. Presenter is relaxed and friendly which is nice. If I had time for MUSHes I'd be enticed!

Screengrabs would have been nice though. For the sections demonstrating chargen, or an intro to MUSH commands, some full-screen typing action may not go amiss. It's a fact of life - no need to shy away from it.

  • This is amazing. This is such an important service to the text based gaming community. What a professionally done video - and the introduction is perfect! A thousand times, thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this is really great and gives all the information one would need to join the game. It is far better then some comercials on TV. It is well thought out and has a lot of work put into it. Well done.

  • Well being staff myself I have to sayt I am pleasantly surprised and actually struck stupid over the work obviously gone into this. I can't thank you enough even as a player its absolutely fabulous to see someone taking so much time into such an endevour. Hope to see you on the game! And keep up the good work!

  • I think there are a few people here who are just trying to pick a fight. I stumbled on to this and find the critics a little over the top.

Someone did a cool thing now just deal with it. I strongly think Saulablue (or what ever...) seems a to close to the reality to be so critical and defensive. I say there is much going on here in jealousy...you can do better let me know. Otherwise stop being such a smatie pants.

  • For however long this lasts before being deleted, my views follow.

Decent amateur production, but the format needs a bit more changing up; staring at a guy talking while relevant, but uninformative, pictures flash beside him feels a lot like some sort of business vid. It's visually interesting for about 5 seconds, then gets tired. Also, the transitions between different recordings need to be smoother; perhaps a screen wipe or some other break in the image would work?

  • Just seeing Graz dissolve into Graz is... weird.

There needs to be a disclaimer that Serenity MUSH and Graz are fan works, and not officially affiliated with Joss Whedon or the Firefly property.

The claim that this is an 'intro to MUSHing' is utterly bizarre; there is no discussion of the history of MU*ing, any comments about the wider range of MU*ing, or... anything. It's all about SerenityMUSH.

  • What 'introduction' is provided seems rather clearly just a prolog to talking about SerenityMUSH. Which is fine, but come on; be honest about what this is.

Oh, and the line about people who MUSH being good with words is absurd.

Also, the first bit showing the SerenityMUSH URL needs to be a lot larger/clearer; on youtube it's all blurry and indistinct.

  • Why would I delete this post? It's an opinion of the video production. Interesting, though, isn't it how "objective" turns to "subjective" when it comes to subject matter? I will take your suggestions under advisement when I make the next one. Thanks for the view! I've never topped 500 before.

  • Thanks for the vid. Serenitymush is a great game and this also promotes MUSHing as well. I do agree that close ups of the screenshots would have been better but you care enough to do something to help the game.

  • Cool idea...I agree about screen shots.. overall, nicely done!

  • It's a neat idea, if not a bit of a rocky start. The random pictures in the background are entertaining, the speaker is articulate... the forehead is akin to swiss cheese at times.

If there's going to be more practical content in future installations, my advice is this: more closeups of the screen and less of our lovely instructor. If you're gonna walks us through chargen, for instance, let us actually see some texty stuff.

  • My thoughts exactly! Excellent comments.

  • It is rather discouraging to think that people who disagree with the content of the video don't say so in person, but do so by maliciously degrading the comments left by people that actually know what they're talking about.

All in all an excellent vid, advocating the most profound addition to the Firefly fan universe since Serenity.

  • People have, but the comments have been deleted.

  • Quite true. There are better places to argue the merits of the game, itself, than the comments section here. I enjoy the game, I made a video...without trying to be rude, I don't really care whether or not YOU enjoy the game. But I think the video, in topic, is useful to the whole idea of MUSHing...no?

  • But the video is titled 'Serenity Mush Introduction' - so ... that implies that comments about content and intention should be as valid as comments about overall effect ... you can't judge effect without including intent.

  • I admit it may be challenging but I believe in you. If you have a comment about the video, fantastic. If you have a comment about the game itself, not the place.

  • I woul like to say that this is a good video is supposed to teac people about mushing and this game. This not only reaches out to people that love Firefly/Serenity but also people who enjoy stories, gaming and anything else that requires an imagination. I think it is a great video since Graz put it together on his own time and resources. Instead of critizing the video for it's 'poor' quality, look pass it ad see he message. This is about the game he loves to play and wants to share it all.

  • Voting down criticism doesn't stop this video from sucking. It is boring and unappealing. This is a terrible ad for the game. Instead of pretending poo smells nice, revise the video to be interesting and maybe, just maybe a non-MUSHers will watch it.

  • Normally I would have blown this away but people are allowed to dislike my video skills.

  • Aside from the sound quality and perhaps a little bit with the bluescreen, (no offense intended of course, constructive criticism) I didn't think it was that unappealing. Or even boring.

Perhaps not good for an ad for any MUSH, but good for an introduction to MUSHing in general at any rate.

  • "Mal says, 'This is a MUSHing first... we are the first MUSH to do this kind of thing, and I need your help in doing what you folks do best... post it all over the place...'" Mal, June 12, 2008

While you MAY be the first to do such a, well... instructional video, you're hardly the first MU* to do one. Shadowed Isles had one, as one of your current/former staffers would know. Final Fantasy MUX, Aquaria, and apparently a few others also had videos.

Graz is cute but bluescreen work needs editing.

  • Thank you for posting this Video Tony/Graz, from all of us at Serenity MUSH:The Big Damn GAME, we hope this will welcome new people into the MUSHing Game world.

Thanks from Mal & Inara, the Player-Base at large, and the staff of Serenity MUSH

    Thank you. Stay Shinny!

  • What an excellent idea. It's a really neat way to give the game a lot more visibility!

  • Yay for Serenity! Wish I remembered my way around a Mush and I'd come play again. Great video! *waves to Mal and his crew*

  • Love it!

  • Perfect. Amazing. Brilliant. Thank you good sir.

  • DUDE.

    That's awesome! :D
