This song is in 1985, and he left after another album in 1987.

Its partially because of the huge success the band reached, and partially because FISH wanted to pursue a solo career...

I'm not too sure though.

record label wanted marillion to play bigger venues, thus to become more commercial, and fish totally disagreed. he also fell out with the rest of the band, and so he decided that what he wanted more was to persue a solo career.
