E85 is a joke for main stream use. Aside from the fact that it takes acres of land to get just a couple hundred gallon A YEAR, you also have to use TWICE as many gallons per mile. Any ICE that uses E85, which is already only 15% energy efficient on petrol, becomes TWICE as inefficient on E85. E10 is fine for octane boost, only increases fuel consumption by 3%, but E85 is just a stupid idea, it makes about as much sense as the hydrogen scam, fuel companies who don't want everyone to go for EVs.

assuming that climate change is real, ethanol is not the way to solve it. it's inefficient, it still puts hydrocarbon byproducts out into the atmosphere, and it requires assloads of regular petroleum fuel to process anyway, and it's inefficient, etc.

A better choice is just making better use of the petroleum we have.

The difference between using fossil fuels and ethanol is huge. ethanol does not add to the amount of carbon in the atmosphere because it remains in the carbon balance aboive the ground. by using fossil fuel you are introducing more carbon into the atmosphere because it came from underground, hence adding to the amount of co2 and therefore increasing global warming effect

As if racing is green- no matter what energy source is used, racing will use more of it. Walk, ride a bike, refuse to use money(paper comes from trees), barefoot(don't kill cows or rubber plants), use your hand( toilet paper comes from killing trees), starting to get the idea. One problem with civilian cars that can use E85, they are tuned to run efficiently on the fuel and thus, your gains are limited.  Cleaner burning, yes, fuel mileage is not as impressive. -- One more point, the more corn used to produce Ethanol, the more the cost of Corn goes up, and thus the cost of food. :o( -- However, it's a move in the right direction.

Actually it is indeed a fact that our (and when I say "our" I mean globally) coal power plants emit more carbon than any other single contributor. We would be using nuclear power plants that contribute much less here in the states, but the average American either doesn't care or is afraid of it simply because they don't understand it.

Nuclear energy is not so safe. May I remind you of Chernobyl? Toxic waste is a hassle to dispose of. Also all equipment used in producing nuclear waste will sooner or later will have to be disposed of as well. The equipment and waste remain radioactive for years to come. Radioactivity isn't good for the env or us. Although coal power plants do emit more carbon that any other contributor. I rather go w/ something more safe & Eco friendly like water or wind power even tho da power output is less.

Chernobyl, yofat, was poorly maintained and built by the Soviet Union. I don't think you can fairly use that as an example of a nuclear power plant. Also, We already know how to safely dispose of the waste materials, without having to worry about destroying the environment near the site or contaminating groundwater. It just isn't a problem.
