What wayne said was extremely ignorant because everything he said contradicts with everything he does...but you...you said it how it was supposed to be said.
Modern day hip hop suffers from "COOKIE CUTTER SYNDROME" everybody doing the same thing. There is no new innovation in the commercial market of Hip-hop/rap. The interesting thing is there are tons of talented rappers and producers out there with innovative musical ideas But as long as Industry insiders and A&R'S Have control over the direction of commercial music you would never have Individuality, originality, and musical creativity. Budgets are low these Labels are looking for hits that's it!
The "nowadays" notion is slightly ridiculous. There have been formats, biters and innovators at the same level for the past two decades in hip-hop. It's just that we remember the unique, talented artists after the copycats fade away.
A&Rs and Managers killed Hip Hop. Artists who are hungry WILL conform to the "format" if told because they want that "one chance". CEOs want the quick dollar instead of the slow fortune.
Real shit , I'm a rapper who is influenced by Nas , and J.Cole and exactly what you said is what I've done. I took their sounds because people I liked them and other people liked them and I did my own thing with it . Innovators are key in today's society , but they're a dying breed.
As an artist trying to build a fan base from the ground up by being original, I can speak to the difficulty of it. That said, once people started coming around, their loyalty has been WAY greater than it ever could''ve been if I chose to copy a trend. You definitely got it 100% right on this subject.
i just need help coming up with new melodies with the same sounds or making new sounds in VST's cus i feel like after i use a sound, i cant really go back and use it again in another beat for some reason lol
@MaceMuzik the best way to do that is use it in a whole different way... switching the polyphony, legato, playing with the Envelopes and filtering it.. mod it
Basically What'Chu Sayin' Is Take What You're Feeling From Someone Elses Style And Integrate It To Your Own Lane For Success Rather Than Act As A Carbon Copy #BAOW
I was just having this same conversation with my brother. We're living in a microwave generation where everyone doesn't want to build a base one indiviual at a time. they want overnight success but don't understand the grind.

The main thing that has changed is copycats and imitators are more noticeable because the internet makes them more visible.
