The reason the people in the Bush administration lied to get us into the Iraq War was because they had this imperial idea of spreading freedom and democracy all around the world, in countries like Iraq. With that goal in mind, lying about the initial reason for invading Iraq doesn't seem like that big of a deal. That was their motivation for lying.
