@KnoxAngel they feel like a hard brush when their quills are down but when they are up and curled into a ball they are almost needle sharp and CAN draw blood. I used to have the meanest hedgehog in the world and he absolutely loved to hurt me :P

1) wow, they must be really light, considering that you held them with their spikes erect and didnt phase you at all, 2) my hedgy doesnt like it when i pet his back, he balls up and jumps so he can prick my fingers LOL, but hes getting better the longer i work with him, its been 3 weeks and i can handle him with leather glooves no prob.

Hedgehog headquarters has alot of info. Good pet? I guess it depends on what kind of person you are and what your looking for.They aren't high maintenance but still require care, otherwise they could get sick and die. Plus if they are not handled regulardly they wont be very social. I read they don't smell much- as long as you clean there cages regularly. (when i had my cavia i cleaned the cage every 2 days), but i have seen videos say every few days.

@AdurianJ you mean hedgehogs are everywhere in europe, africa, and sometimes new zeland. hedgehogs are not available in the wild from anywhere else unless they escaped from their breeder/owners. and besides, nobody seems to like the european hedgehog, so yeah. good hedgehogs are only available from in wild in africa. and how many people are gonna go live in africa just to wait for a random wild hedgie to waltz into their yard????

@Commenters09 You get used to them and once they get used to you they end up not even spiking up. My hedgehog doesnt prickle up anymore and shes easy to stroke and pet. Hell, she even lets me kiss her on the cheek. All a matter of training them. These little guys in the video are on a good start!
