how do you stop animal aggression? I have a 5 month American Bully who I really wanted to show, but the other day the guy I got the dog from came over with a litter mate, now I've only had this dog for about three weeks, since he's been from the litter, but he instantly was on that other dog, it clearly was a dominance thing however, I am at a loss for what to do, I can't show an aggressive dog, now what?
Try to find a good trainer in your area who can help you control the outbursts. If you have issues like that it's good to get your dog safely exposed to many other dogs- perhaps at a distance to begin with. could take some time. good luck.
@darrelhager thank you, since I posted this I have surrounded my dog with as many dogs as possible, and it seems like there may yet be hope for him yet,

i'd incorporate some ass whooping to that dogs face if i was training him. none of my pits ever attacked ppl unless i amped them up to do so,even then i'd pull back on the leash at the last second. pitbulls werent never bred to be that human aggressive, seriously i'd beat that dog if it was mine

I Love this dog, has a great mind temperament. The drive is great for guard purpose. I notice some of the of the comments, but honestly the dog suppose to react like that to a stranger. The owner didn't give no instructions to the dog to be submissive, so the dog use his instincts. My dogs will do the same, they've been guarding a place for over 20 months, owner comes every morning, and they are ready to attack if he steps in. They guard the place seven days a week.
@muddosdred Pitbulls are NOT supposed to react like that. Proper pitbull temperament is to show no human aggression, which is why they make poor guard dogs. A true pit is a great family dog, loves kids, and trains easily, tho aggression towards animals is common. Responsible owners make this a great breed. People who train them to fight or be aggressive should not own a dog, period.

@hatekiller1000 first of all, your pitbull is either over weight or surely not an american pitbull terrier. your gotti line blah blah doesnt mean anything except your dog was a product of over breeding or in breeding to sell you a look and style. your poor dog was probably not trained right or socialized at all. selling him off to necome a bitter junkyard dog would only mean you giving bully breeds a bad rep. should of adopted..wait no you dont need a dog period
Wow, makes me happy to see this video. It shows what's possible. I'm from switzerland and we have big problems here bout those dogs. The Newspapers and other medias, and last but not least, the politicians puted these dogs in a very bad light and the people are afraid now of these dogs. They try to forbid Pitis, Staffis and other races. My Amstaff is a wonderfull partner but he needs a strait sensitive lead. We did the BH-examination and to sports 3 times at week. The newest is "Longieren".
wow i loved this video. i guess it just goes to show that all dogs can be taught. good idea with the muzzle on at first lol. great approach at handling as well as training. this is a great dog and it is so good to see a video where a pitbull is redeemed even after showing a great deal of aggression. great job and you have a beautiful dog. i liked the "smile" when the muzzle was taken off
This dog is a just a scared spoiled brat, who did not have the proper owner. As apposed to the docked tail pit mix, who showed more agression, this guys is a scared dog.
Take off the electric color and muzzle. Any amatuer trainer can Train a dog by breaking them in. Ive been a dog trainer for many years.
@aky19832001 I wouldn't say "spoiled brat," but definitely a nervous wreck. Any one who uses human personality traits like "spoiled brat" probably shouldn't be a trainer, and a professional trainer knows that you don't "break a dog in." The lesson for the dog was that you do not need to feel threatened by humans, and humans won't back away when you act defensively. It was pretty simple.
These dogs are only aggressive if made that way. I have a Pit and was one of them people who said I would never own one and said they were mean dogs. After getting mine it has changed my mind 100% I still have yet to come across a mean Pit Bull. I love the breed and I would fight for them. People need to stop giving them bad names. All they want to do is be loyal and please their owners. With love and care a mean dog can turn nice like this one. Well done
hey, i have a pitbull and i trained him everyday, but he doesn't seem to understand the "stand" command. every time i say it he stand and then sits back down. i think he's just being stubborn and want to sit. i'm on the edge of kicking his fucking ass too. all that hard work for nothing. he's a dumbass dog. i do say it loud and clear for him to hear. he's not from a reputable breeder by the way. that's probably why i think.
@j0hnxjxrambo practice having him stand with his front two feet up on an object or a curb. Much harder to sit. Than you can have him move into a stand from either a "sit", or a "down"..
@j0hnxjxrambo oh common now. Never blame the dog's heritage for the way he behaves. The great majority of dogs can learn, you just need to be patient and not so angry. I hope you don't yell at the dog. That would make his behavior much much worse.
time to put that dog out of his misery before he hurt a child or somebody that can't defend for them self that dog seem to do well right now but soon or later it will flip on somebody thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@778brando I really don't think this dog is the problem. If you read the info for the video, it says the dog became aggressive after being attacked by a Husky. So really, if the husky owner was responsible and controlled there dog, this one wouldn't be aggressive. very sad. i would hate to see this dog put down before any attempts to rehabilitate.
i wish i could get my dog trained like this he is ten times worse tho, he is a blue gotti pitbull named tarzan and we cant have no one over he has bittn three people and one have had to undergo major surgery,he weights 95lbs 11months old and im bout to sell him to a junk yard down the street unless someone wants him he has ukc papers and all shots contact me at 352-404-3535
@hatekiller1000 That's a masttif/pit/bulldog mix you got right there. He's no gamebred dog, nor a classic showbred apbt (adba/aadr) therefore he's a mutt. You can't really compare training those pussyass manbiters to training one of these beasts. Good luck with that mutt you can't handle.
Finally a real dog trainer who actually works with real aggressive dogs. Too many people call themselves trainers, but when it comes to dogs like this one, they tell the owners that there's no chance in stopping the aggression and at best it could only be managed. That's not true at all, they just don't know how to deal with real aggression, but still take your money. At least these guys on the video step up and actually deal with the dog, and didn't hurt the dog. Good job guys!!
@maliciosamelissa many people don't understand that you can't calm aggression using aggression. but it does take a great deal of perseverence. this was a great video thanks for sharing it with us
@maliciosamelissa The real reason most trainers don't work with dogs like this is b/c it is a huge liability. Not only do the trainers have to put themselves at risk, if the dog ever relapses who do you think will be at fault?? Dogs like this are to much risk for most trainers. Sit means sit is a huge corporation that can get good insurance and attorneys if something were to ever happen.
this seems like a very good turn around in the dog's behavior... just wondering i noticed the dog had a collar that looks like a shock collar , is that what you guys used? also i was hoping that the video hadn't been edited because then it would've really shown that your method works well...
@saraph37 Hi Sarah, the video was edited for the purpose of time. There were many other things that weren't even included in the video- e.g. the lesson with the husband and bringing out other dogs.
@alyssaboo4g63 you my friend have a lot to learn...exercise before and during training is a key component to keeping a dog stable..it must be a part of the dogs regular routine...this training is actually a form of both physical and mental exercise which is very draining..but overall its even more draining because the dog is learning a new routine and learning how to behave differently
I would say that after 10-15 minutes of that level of arousal that's not training, that's exhaustion. He was over threshold the entire session. At no point was his brain chemically in any state to "learn" anything.
lol this video is either fucking amazing or da damn pit was just tired as hell n didnt bother to bite da fucker arm off anymore lol jk i love pits well i think i do lol i just got a baby one yesterday
Interesting how rather than seeing how this dog has learned to respond to his environment positively rather than negatively in a very short amount of time, some call it "abuse" to ignore the dog's aggressive behavior and instead ask them to heel. PR-only is great if it works for your dog, but for a dog like this, the quicker you can get them turned around, the less you chance them attacking someone and getting PTS.
evrybody deserves a chance for rehabilitation. the pit was okay until somebody's disobedient un-trained HUSKY attacked him. with patience and love, you can make him right again, the same with theses aggressive , ignorant comment posters here on youtube. with a good temporary muzzle, an electric collar , a leash and some patience, i could change some of you guys around. a few of you though, unlike dogs, there is no hope.
haha you're so funny... If you want to shoot this dog, what do you want to do with the person who made him like that ?? Dogs are not born aggressive, but if a person can't handle the dog right, that's what they become like. If a child becomes a bully, do you blame the child or his parents ?
You should think a little furthern than "oh bad dog he should be dead" it's incredible what Mr. Hager made of him in one day. Of course this dog still is dangerous for other people BUT he deserves a chance !
Notice how that dog is no longer aggressive? He just needed to be worked on a good run some training with a firm hand and the relationship was re-established.
Put that gun to better use and use it on yourself.
That dog is still unpredicable. You don't know how it's going to act towards other people who may come off as aggressive towards it such as a child. If you're not going to euthanize that dog you should make sure it doesn't leave the property without a muzzle. I own a pitbull and it amazes me what kind of people are allowed to own them. If not trained properly, a pitbull is like walking around with a loaded weapon.
think green! nice name for a person who wants to kill a breed of dogs. Why dont you try thinking and then try to think green. Yours is the useless existence.
couldnt agree with you more, 90% of these "think green" people are a much of emoty slogans walking around with emoty heads. they wouldnt know what green is if the Incredible Hulk were sitting on their head.
Trainer needs to be more confident and dominant in his approach to the dog. Full out ignore bad behavior and LOTS OF PRAISE for the good, calm behavior. Good technique otherwise, and very favorable outcome! Classic case of fear aggression. 15 years experience with aggressive dogs here.
I have a pitbull.. But he is not agressiv to ppl only to cats and black dogs... He killed a black dog few days ago it was his first time that he did something like that now iam starting training because i dont wont him to be more agressiv after thaht he tasted cats blood...
@darrelhager Have FUN with your dog? Is that what you guys do? No. The SitMeansSit program is old, tired, and based exclusively on obsolete methods that employ force, The science of animal ethology and our understanding of how dogs learn have shown that these methods don't work. PEOPLE: PLEASE seek CREDENTIALED trainers that use only positive reinforcement methods for your dogs. This moron, just like C.Milan, is using methods that EVERY professional behaviorist group has impuned.
@keeg021985 Cesar and I are both hurt by your name calling. I'm Sorry where are your videos posted? I can find Cesar Millan Videos, and I can find Sit Means Sit videos, but yours must have been removed.
@darrelhager I couldn't care less what uneducated people like Milan and you feel. If you want to train dogs, go get some credentials, like a CPDT, or a CTC, both of which I hold. If you want to be a behavioral consultant, then go get a master's in animal ethology, like I have, and then get certified by the IAABC, like I am; otherwise, don't hang out a shingle and promote force-based methods. Read the recent study from UC Davis SVM and U of P SVM on the effects of force based methods on behavior.
@darrelhager i have been training dogs for many years and i love the bully breeds b/c they are such loyal and devoted dogs that have a bad rap due to irresponsible owners. but this was excellent.
@keeg021985 And just what credencials do you have my dear? What video were you watching, because I didn't see anything overly forceful there! I just love people that wanna spew off about things they know nothing about, CLASSIC! The end result was achieved and he was not harmed or forced, quit trying to see yourself in print and grow up! good Job Darrel! Ignore about bitch! somebody needs a hobby!
@samosafwat take it outside as a puppy and surround it with alot of people so it wont be aggressive make it get used to seeing people And other animals as well thats what im doing with my puppy and so far hes not aggressive
i know abit about dogs and first of all even when you finished the dog still doesn't respect you as a pack leader cause he's not watching you. Also your to tense when holding the leash you need to be calm and assertive. To dogs your energy so when your mad, fearful, nervous ext.. that shows weakness. And one more thing DON"T EVER!!! knee a dog in the stomache that is there most vunrible spot.
This boy was stubern but im amazed how you handle it. I am colecting all sort of information on APBT cause i want one so bad but i want to be prepared max. for it.
Hi Nancy, I'm not going to insult your intelligence or call names here. I think clicker training is great, and I think you have some very nice videos of your dogs, and some very creative approaches to handling certain situations. So... I challenge you to leave your own video response in the area above demonstrating your approach to a similar case.
fair enough. I have posted our video of Ginger, an older pitbull that was visciously attacked in her neighborhood when she was 8-9 years old, requiring medical attention. She then became malice towards all dogs. Through building a positive CER over time she can now walk safetly and relaxed through her neighborhood. It all took time...
@darrelhager well put darrel. I know it can be tough to respond to comments like this but you did a great job. i too am interested in seeing her video responses to see how she would handle a dog like this differently. its much easier to take a different training approach when working with a a cute innocent dog. dogs like these can def be a lot of work. i will soon post a few videos of my work with similar aggressive dogs. take a look @ my vids in the meantime and please subscribe if you like em
@darrelhager thanks..yea often people ask how much time elapsed, so i figured id capture that and was just in the moment when i asked that lady in the street. Should have some more vids up soon! thanks for the comment and keep up the good work!! get ahold of me if you ever come to NYC to work with dogs
I'm sorry. I missed the abuse part. Was it when he walked by the dog? Was that the abuse? Or when he stood there while the dog 'took out it's aggression' on him behind that muzzle? Is it the muzzle? That must be it...yes, that must be the abuse. Or was it when he patted the dog when it began to calm down? The walking back and forth? The end?? When the muzzle was removed and the dog followed him wihtout a leash? Oh yes...yes that's abuse alright...
@nancyspore How is this abuse? The dog was jumping up and trying to attack the guy, of course he was going to hold on to the leash to keep it away from his face and make sure the dog knew it wasn't allowed to do that. The dog was doing it to itself. And if he had let go of the leash, it would have made the dog feel as though it was in charge and it wouldn't have learned the commands.
It was aggressive in the first place, he didn't do anything to provoke the dog.
That dog needs to be put down for not only the safety of other people and animals but for the sake of saving the breed. I have 3 American Pit Bull Terriers. All 3 of them are rescues and angels.
No dog needs to be put down, as someone who has rescued 1 pit/lab mix, 1 red nose, and one blue nose, all it takes is the knowledge and time with proper training with each. Any dog can become productive members of a home. Punish the deed not the breed I agree. I also believe in spade and neutering to limit the abundance of all animals in general, avoidance of people who should not ever have any animal. There are 3 simple easy rules for a great dog
@turbovtec93 For the Sake of the breed is rehabilitation.... Just think if you got attacked by a person for some unknown reason, how would you be afterwards??? not the same thats for sure.... that dog probably saved their owner from being attacked and injured... so if your dogs defended you and after that point on they were aggresive towards others you would put them down???
They just showed a perfect example of true ownership of a dog and of a PITBULL at that!!!! They love that dog so much that they got that dog corrective training.... You should give your dogs up for the sake of them and the breed...

@j0hnxjxrambo oh common now. Never blame the dog's heritage for the way he behaves. The great majority of dogs can learn, you just need to be patient and not so angry. I hope you don't yell at the dog. That would make his behavior much much worse.

778brando 1 year ago
@778brando I really don't think this dog is the problem. If you read the info for the video, it says the dog became aggressive after being attacked by a Husky. So really, if the husky owner was responsible and controlled there dog, this one wouldn't be aggressive. very sad. i would hate to see this dog put down before any attempts to rehabilitate.

@hatekiller1000 That's a masttif/pit/bulldog mix you got right there. He's no gamebred dog, nor a classic showbred apbt (adba/aadr) therefore he's a mutt. You can't really compare training those pussyass manbiters to training one of these beasts. Good luck with that mutt you can't handle.
mhrreplicacarbon 1 year ago
Finally a real dog trainer who actually works with real aggressive dogs. Too many people call themselves trainers, but when it comes to dogs like this one, they tell the owners that there's no chance in stopping the aggression and at best it could only be managed. That's not true at all, they just don't know how to deal with real aggression, but still take your money. At least these guys on the video step up and actually deal with the dog, and didn't hurt the dog. Good job guys!!
maliciosamelissa 1 year ago
@maliciosamelissa many people don't understand that you can't calm aggression using aggression. but it does take a great deal of perseverence. this was a great video thanks for sharing it with us
candihu 1 year ago
@maliciosamelissa The real reason most trainers don't work with dogs like this is b/c it is a huge liability. Not only do the trainers have to put themselves at risk, if the dog ever relapses who do you think will be at fault?? Dogs like this are to much risk for most trainers. Sit means sit is a huge corporation that can get good insurance and attorneys if something were to ever happen.

Interesting how rather than seeing how this dog has learned to respond to his environment positively rather than negatively in a very short amount of time, some call it "abuse" to ignore the dog's aggressive behavior and instead ask them to heel. PR-only is great if it works for your dog, but for a dog like this, the quicker you can get them turned around, the less you chance them attacking someone and getting PTS.

evrybody deserves a chance for rehabilitation. the pit was okay until somebody's disobedient un-trained HUSKY attacked him. with patience and love, you can make him right again, the same with theses aggressive , ignorant comment posters here on youtube. with a good temporary muzzle, an electric collar , a leash and some patience, i could change some of you guys around. a few of you though, unlike dogs, there is no hope.

shoot this piece of shit dog please
mcgaugh57 2 years ago
haha you're so funny...

Trainer needs to be more confident and dominant in his approach to the dog. Full out ignore bad behavior and LOTS OF PRAISE for the good, calm behavior. Good technique otherwise, and very favorable outcome! Classic case of fear aggression. 15 years experience with aggressive dogs here.

darrelhager 2 years ago

I can find Cesar Millan Videos, and I can find Sit Means Sit videos, but yours must have been removed.
darrelhager 1 year ago
@darrelhager I couldn't care less what uneducated people like Milan and you feel. If you want to train dogs, go get some credentials, like a CPDT, or a CTC, both of which I hold. If you want to be a behavioral consultant, then go get a master's in animal ethology, like I have, and then get certified by the IAABC, like I am; otherwise, don't hang out a shingle and promote force-based methods. Read the recent study from UC Davis SVM and U of P SVM on the effects of force based methods on behavior.

i know abit about dogs and first of all even when you finished the dog still doesn't respect you as a pack leader cause he's not watching you. Also your to tense when holding the leash you need to be calm and assertive. To dogs your energy so when your mad, fearful, nervous ext.. that shows weakness. And one more thing DON"T EVER!!! knee a dog in the stomache that is there most vunrible spot.

Hi Darrel,
fair enough.

Oh yes...yes that's abuse alright...

keeg021985 1 year ago
@keeg021985 Who are you? And show me your training.
darrelhager 1 year ago
@nancyspore How is this abuse? The dog was jumping up and trying to attack the guy, of course he was going to hold on to the leash to keep it away from his face and make sure the dog knew it wasn't allowed to do that. The dog was doing it to itself. And if he had let go of the leash, it would have made the dog feel as though it was in charge and it wouldn't have learned the commands.
It was aggressive in the first place, he didn't do anything to provoke the dog.

all dogs can be rehabilitated, if yo dont know about dog training than dont open your mouth. maybe we should put you down
eric4184 2 years ago
No dog needs to be put down, as someone who has rescued 1 pit/lab mix, 1 red nose, and one blue nose, all it takes is the knowledge and time with proper training with each. Any dog can become productive members of a home. Punish the deed not the breed I agree. I also believe in spade and neutering to limit the abundance of all animals in general, avoidance of people who should not ever have any animal. There are 3 simple easy rules for a great dog
1) Exercise
2) Discipline
3) Affection
in order
NSACREWSIN 2 years ago
"spade"? you use a garden tool on the dogs? Get a dictionary.
kay9pets 2 years ago
@turbovtec93 For the Sake of the breed is rehabilitation.... Just think if you got attacked by a person for some unknown reason, how would you be afterwards??? not the same thats for sure.... that dog probably saved their owner from being attacked and injured... so if your dogs defended you and after that point on they were aggresive towards others you would put them down???
