Well what can I say Its the words that count How can anybody write this and now know what it means It comes from the heart Thanks Clifford We miss you
Possibly my favourite song of all time. Brings back so many teenage "boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy thinks it's the end of the world and will never be happy again" memories. Looking back i wouldn't have changed a thing....Thanks for posting, good vid to go with it.
Hey scalpsie, love Clifford T's Music - these vids really bring back a lot of great memories of good times with friends and loved ones - I remember enjoying a video of Home Thoughts from Abroad featuring Clifford with his wife and child, haven't seen it for years - is it out there somewhere?
many thanks for your reply scalpisie, i so love watching your videos of CTW. I live in Cyprus. Well done and if CTW was still alive then i am sure he would agree with you videos. They just bring the man and his great music alive. well done and hope for more to come
so love your videos scalpsie, a lot of time and effort has gone into them. I watch them time after time . CTW would have loved them as they compliment the great music he gave to us, and us compliment great pictures well done!!!!!
Many, many thanks for kind words and appreciation of the eforts in spreading the word!! I don't profess to take great credit for the videos but prefer that if someone clicks on them then they'll hear so of the most underplayed songs ever...and I'm just an elder romantic! Peace and contentment.
Vincent, Cork, Ireland. Magnificent video....and what a beautiful love song. Haven't heard it in years....but i've been thinking about this song a lot lately !
What a gorgeous song, lovely voice. Takes me right back to my childhood, my mums all time fav song. 31 Now, she played it the other day when my hubby and I were helping her and my dad do d.i.y! I was back to being 8 yrs old, funny how a song does that x
great video, put to one of the best songs ever written the man was a poet. sadly missed, taken far to soon just getting into his music again after many years.thanks again great job on the video.
i also remember steve merike playing home thoughts from abroad at the end of his shows late at night in nottingham...memories...it's always been my favourite song since i first heard it when i was 14 yrs old (now nealry 50)
what can one say!!!! such a haunting song. well done to the video that accompanys it!! Man was so far in front of his time, but alas taken away from us all.
Martin, Thank you so very much for your superb efforts in putting together all these
fantastic videos of CTW. You have obviously spent many, many hours in getting each one absolutely perfect in a way that truly does justification to the sentiments of Clifford`s magnificent songs. In fact I`d say that they`re that good that even Clifford would have approved! Thanks again my friend, really
HI englishcharles I think you are mistaken about the "can you hear me Roger?" on the intro 'cos I bought the L.P in 1973 & you can hear it on there, anyway I don't think that it spoils the track in any way it's just more noticable on the CD version.
Thanks for putting in the work with the vid - has always been a great song, was humming it all today, went searching tonight and found this, great reward !
Very much appreciated ...many thanks ...delighted you enjoyed so much ...really pleased.Peace my friend ...maybe check out all the other CTW vids...sure you'll enjoy also...again ...thank you
I have only just found this site. BRILLIANT! Clifford T was the best and I was privileged to have known him since 1964. Look down and smile Cliff. You may be gone but never forgotten.
that was a refreshing video for a beautiful song hope you get the recognition for the time and effort put into it have you done anymore or can you do one for the uptown uptempo woman i dont have the skill
ctw managed to encapsulate in this song how we all feel when going through the very painful process of missing someone who is or has been very special and touched a part of our lives which will forever belong to that person. Forever yours J, Lizzie X
I told Scalpse how much you and your mum loved scalpse's video and how much time you spent together watching them, I'm sorry scalpie its is this video and not the other one I mentioned, trust me to get it wrong.
Beautiful video for a breathtaking song by a tragically underrated singer-songwriter namechecking one of England's loveliest and best-loved poems. A pure joy. Thank you, scalpsie.
Thanks so much scalpse. Absolutely wonderful. I will check out your other videos as you have a great philosophy on life. I love Bute, I nearly moved there 2 years ago but mid-Wales is beautiful too and that's home.
Despite making his mark with Home Thoughts Ken Wright confirms that Clifford T Ward refused to tour even in the face of some extremely tempting offers! Cliff was a perfectionist in the recording studio and excelled at singing, songwriting and record production. He hated performing live in concert, he found it very stressful and chose to restrict himself to television and radio promotional work.
My work takes me over to India and China often. Away from home and my wife logging into YT to listen to this track allows my spirit to return home. Next week I will be off to China for 6 months, my longest trip away to date. Thank god and your self Scalpsie that I can take CTW with me to fly me back home each evening.
Wow ....now thats definitely 'Home Thoughts' stuff ....delighetd it finds a space in your luggage! Peace and contentment and safe travelling my friend.
dlt had home thoughts as his album of the week in 73 playing a track a day. home thoughts from abroad has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Early summer is here as I write this. 5 May 2008. This is so apt, the sun has been out today, the trees are blooming ready to shoot into summer. The wild Garlic is here too. Oh th be in England now that april is there.
Lovely. At 1:39 you have a picture of Wordsworth Grave in Grasmere. Did you take it. I have one similar I took on 35mm film with my wife (sadly not with me). We loved exploring the Lakes in Summer, son English, so Clifford T.
The Lakes are beautiful indeed and regretably but honestly can't take credit for the grave picture .... so happy you have gained some enjoyment from the music and the video....thank you for viewing and commenting so sincerely. My pleasure.Peace!
I know now I could never leave England after listening to this song ,,id miss the ol country tooo much with all its faults its still the place I love. Greetings from Lincolnshire
Hey that's cool! Home is where the heart is and all that ... so true. Many thanks for popping in and getting some enjoyment from viewing. Sincere thanks...Peace! Greetings from Isle of Bute.
Not sure if this has been mentioned already. There is a radio transmition over the top of the recording near the start. If that is there its an authentic version of the original release. Glad it is here. Johnny walker (when standing in for T Wogan) stated that it was a taxi CB crashing over the air to the studio. They decided to leave it in.
Thanks for posting, My identical twin left 30 years ago for USA, and we refer to this, of good old England. This always makes me cry.
You are joking. Clifford T Ward would never allow a taxi cb on his classic song! He was a perfectionist and also the record producer! The original master recording was subsequently infected with the comment "can you hear me roger" whilst in a recording studio. Later releases of the song included it but it was not on the original. Cliff was distressed! He recorded the song in 1973 but had written it in 1968 whilst working in France He told me he was inspired by the classic "Honey" Bobby Goldsboro
Johnny Walker is a proven ally of Clifford T Ward. The singles "Gaye" and "No more rock n roll" were his records of the week. When he hosted the Radio 2 drivetime show I won the mystery voice contest when Cliff was the subject. I Kept the TV vouchers but donated the cd player for auction at Cliff's convention. The "flawed" recording containing the voiceover could not be remedied. Credit to the BBC and Johnny Walker that they have continued to play it for many years. Johnny is protecting Cliff!
So beautiful, so many memories,I was 18 when CTW was writting so many wonderful songs,I was a student nurse, our pay was poor we used to scrape up money to pay for his latest vinyl masterpieces, listening to a little transistor radio for his music!.When I worked overseas for a while I was so homesick I cried and cried and played this over and over, happy days. Now my children love his music, scalpsie you are so talented, your videos fantastic,my son loves the 'Anime',can't stop watching, thank you.
WOW! I am overjoyed by your sincere kindness and the lovely thoughts of your commnets. It's my pleasure in finding that you enjoyed so much! Delighted. Peace and contentment in all you do. x
god i miss this country! been away(far to long) for many years now and this is i a tonic to say the least. CTW was, and still is a icon of song. thanks for the memories!
my dad used to listen to this song and play and sing it on his piano when i was a small child back in the 70's and it was the first cliff song i was crazy about when i re-discovered his works for myself a couple of years ago what a masterful piece musically and lyrically and great job again my friend your karma bank is filling up with alot of positives coz your making alot of people very happy with your work!!!
Wonderful memories for you ... I'm so pleased for you ... humble gratitude for your extremely kind comments ... but,the magic is in the songs...THANK YOU! Pax!
My ideal weekend is to listen to CTW on ytube and read all the posts, my wife loves to listen to the music as well, and this is her favorite... Scalpsie "Martin" you have done a superb job on all the vids to go with the music, and praise where praise is due...

Martin, I would never wish to patronise you in anyway, but so far(this has been a roller coaster), the best is yet to come is amazing, touching and sincere, but homethoughts adds a bit of humour with the cisten and engulfing lyrics. It's a real close call in the early days between the two
I just love reading your posts transfixture. Its a complete joy to see you fall in love with Cliffords work. He was such a genuis and Martins is doing him proud with this wonderful collection of his many classics.
Seatbelts fastened...there's still more to listen to!! So delighted you come to enjoy so quickly...we all have a personal favourite...at times even that can chnage but you'll find one which REALLY sticks for you for whatever reason and remains and that's GOOD! Laughter the best medicine at times! Peace!
Gaye was Cliff's most successful song with considerable radio airplay and sales worldwide exceeding 3 million. It was not, however, his favourite song. Home Thoughts from Abroad was much more a contender for his favourite song. This is an excellent video scalpsie. Cliff would have been delighted with it! Thank you my friend.
I was under the impression :) which made me very happy incidentallyLoL that you had somehow cut a piece from 0to9taurus's dec upload of the original video into this...Whatever this is a brilliant , brilliant video bound to make joy for a lot of people .With respect and LoL
What a great video. It takes someone very special to take the time and energy to put this together. Thank you again for adding this it will help to promote one of the most underated singer / songwriters in the world. Pat. (homethoughts, Ireland).
