Even though the rain scene didn't actually occur in the book, I can't help but adore that part. This version (2005) is the best, Colin Firth doesn't hold a candle to the regal and longing portrayal that Matthew Mcfaddyn shows here.

I <3 Matthew Macfadyen. Sigh. He's so very good at making the audience understand Mr. Darcy. My favorite part is his first proposal in the rain. He switches so easily between the practical Darcy that sees everything wrong with their relationship and the Darcy who is head over heels for Lizzie ("I had to see you" and "I love you" are so clear in his voice and on his face). Then he just looks so very heartbroken when he realizes there's no hope. Gah he's wonderful.
I thought this was slow and kept waiting and waiting and waiting. But when it ended, I was speechless...and realized I was enraptured and sighed a whisper, "WOW"! I can't believe it's not butter.
