  • its kurt cobain favorite song :)

  • This is a version of Jaqcues Brel's original play "Le Moribond".

This is the one i've used to know.

  • Original play is from 1961 by Jacques Brel. Brel family is still the property rights owner.

  • We get to have a funeral for one of my friends from grade school today...

GOD please help me

  • @Davidshark1 what did you do?

  • @Davidshark1 You're asking for God's help when all you have to do is call the chick and apologize? Fucking christians try to get out of apologizing but trying to get "God" to do it.

  • @XxRainbowLezxX No dude, you got it all wrong, I did apologize she´s just freakin tired of my apologies, o and fyi I wasn´t asking for God´s help or have him doing it, it was just a mere expression of loneliness and impotence

  • This song is not about suicide. It is a song of reflection. He is reflecting back on all his loved ones who has brought him joy and "season in the sun". It is appearing that he is dying and is running out of times and is giving thanks to them. People who is suicide do not talk about joy and birds are singing in the sky, but rather of hopelessness and gloom. Please don't turn this beautiful song into something as horrible as suicide.

PS: I have to create a you tube account finally just to

  • Just finished watching a film documentary about former American President, Ronald Regan... This song was played in the end of the documentary...

The lyrics and the rythem of this song brought back so much of the meories about the 70's and the 80's~

  • Who do you think is dying in this song??

  • @cindyasters I´m was just thinking same!? But this is one of my Top-10. I love this song, as much by finnish and english.

  • HVALA TI ZA PESMU! PESMA MOJE MLADOSTI!

  • When was this song published? 1974?

  • This Song is a little bit depresiv but real good jamain steve

  • Too bad there is such a high amount of typos!

  • Anyone know who the composer was? The words obviously have a message.

  • @Georgelj1 Jacques Brel was the writer.....

  • @Lizzpear Jacques Brel original version is rubbish

  • @Raider577 do you even understand what Brel says in his version ?

  • @gainsbourg321 I can't remember it was over a year ago but it was fully explained in the documentary. If it was that interesting I would have remembered it.They showed him performing it on stage. The timing, phrasing, melodic flow was terrible. I prefer but don't know that much about Gainsbourg apart from the film and documentaries I have seen. Go on now tell me how can I compare the two

  • WONDERFUL SONG

  • Beautiful song, first time i heard it it was today, on a course on university that we have to analyze songs.

It's clearly a suicidal letter, to his friend, to his dad, and to her love. So sad but and with a melody so "happy" behind, beautiful song.

  • @HendrixSpirit Not suicide. He's reflecting on his life while on his deathbed.

  • The original "Le Moribond" (also known as "Adieu Émile") is from the belgian singer/songwriter Jacques Brel, written in 1961. The english translation is from Rod McKuen.

  • Always loved this song, though very sad as you get older this song will be closer and closer to your life then ever before.

  • When I was really little I thought a dad wrote this song from heaven, and I cried because I thought a little girl lost her daddy. About eight years later, I know who wrote it, I know that it isn't a dad from heaven singing to his daughter. But still every time I hear this song my eyes get wet. It was my favorite song when I was little, it's my favorite song now. <333

  • @eclipsedreamer

this is a memorable song for me as well, I've always loved this song, and I get emotional everytime I hear it. It reminded me of my late mother (god bless her heart), and my father (god bless his heart too). It's amazing how one song can change a person's distorted thoughts, (that's me). It's a calming song for me.

  • @eclipsedreamer go to hell fruitcake

  • @nate8lawson I'm not a fan of fruitcakes, but I wouldn't damn them to hell.

(plötzlich verstand ich 'Englisch' gut) - Ich hab' immer 'my shell' verstanden. 'Muschel als was Besonderes'!

  • one of the best songs of all time

  • How can u fucking dislike this song?!?!?!

  • Thank you for lyrics !!!!!

  • normaly i dont have anything about those songs , but i hate this one ....why ....cos is a "suicide letter" . he killed himself after he song this one .

  • There is something about this song...I can only picture myself with my friends when I was kid, climbing trees, running, playing ball and making up silly stories. Most of all, we were kids whose parents were poor but we had almost no worries at all.

  • My mom wants this one to be played on her funeral (sic!) ... so Mummy, just let me tell you one thing, my sister and me decided, we ain't gonna play this song within the next 65 years. And you sure don't want us to break a vow. So take care. We love you! <3 <3 <3

  • It`s nice!!

  • i have tears in my eyes because i have to think on my dog :'(

  • I might do this for graduation :D

  • To my understandings: Michele was his little sister, and the rest all in his words.

And he was sentenced to death penalty for some crime he committed?

Sad song, I’ve always loved it.

  • @inogi339 Terry Jacks didn't write this song. It was written by Jacques Brel about dying. Terry Jacks used the name Michele but he doesn't have any sisters - just brothers.

  • @Lizzpear Actually Jacques Brel's isn't about dying, but about having a cheating wife. Metaphors + French = Englishmen don't understand :)

  • @MrRobot1337 "Goodbye my friend it's hard to die" isn't about dying? How is that? Was there something lost in the translation? I know the original had a verse about a cheating wife....with his best friend I think?

  • @Lizzpear Well its not really a direct translation. Jacques Brel's version is really someone who is about to "die" but he mentions a whole bunch of people will take care of his wife, and he knows because they've already been taking care of her ;).

The English version is about death. French, not quite. Also, the term death in French is very widely used in metaphors. A lot of people argue about what the song is really about in French ;). But death is not as present as in English.

  • @MrRobot1337 I think you should go back and listen to the lyrics....in Jacques Brel's version, his wife had many affairs including one with his friend. And he IS dying....I don't know what version you're listening to.

  • @MrRobot1337---this song is about suicide

  • @Lizzpear This song is about suicide

  • Really wonderfull song

  • 12 assholes with no taste

  • 12 peoples whitout hearts!!

  • Terry Jacks - the one and only - some looser wrote "schwuchtelmusik" -

suppose he himself is gay - but "Seasons in the Sun" from "Westlife - yes, the temperature is rising - sorry! But their version is okay!

  • ohh..... this... really tuch my heart..

  • Awesome! Especially this 70s tuned version of Terry Jack. Sometimes I think I was born into a wrong time when I hear tracks like this.

The lyrics are awesome too. They are very emotional but yet so hopeful. Simply a masterpiece of 70s and emotional greatness!

  • Such a beautiful song it made me cry so bad

  • KLASSIKER! :)

  • Some songs are just universal. Once you break the language barrier. No matter if you're in a small city in the USA, Europe, Africa, Asia or like mysel, in Brazil. No matter how different we are in and out, some things in life will equal everyone. Among other things, childhood plays, family, joy, love and the inevitable time to go. I love this song. It makes me feel we should try to be just a better version of ourselves everyday for life is too short to us to do otherwise. Excuse my English.

  • It made me cry.......Im very fond of this song, listened to it since I was just 2, still like it.

  • Isn't there supposed to be one more verse for his wife? I don't really remember the words of that verse but her name is like Frances or Fannie or something like that. I heard that played in a supermarket when I was like 13

  • who can't love this song?!

  • I love it...

  • 'we had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun...'

  • Here's a little something from my life: I know this song but forgot about it, untill now.

I sang along on it, until about 1:00 when the lyrics went on about the relationship to his father. I was/am the black sheep of my family, as they're JW's and i choose to split, because of "too much wine and too much song." Those 10 seconds of the song shut me up. This song just got really personal and close. I've always liked, only i just figured out why.

    Thought i'd share my story.

  • @DK8380 same
