@XxRainbowLezxX No dude, you got it all wrong, I did apologize she´s just freakin tired of my apologies, o and fyi I wasn´t asking for God´s help or have him doing it, it was just a mere expression of loneliness and impotence

This song is not about suicide. It is a song of reflection. He is reflecting back on all his loved ones who has brought him joy and "season in the sun". It is appearing that he is dying and is running out of times and is giving thanks to them. People who is suicide do not talk about joy and birds are singing in the sky, but rather of hopelessness and gloom. Please don't turn this beautiful song into something as horrible as suicide.

@gainsbourg321 I can't remember it was over a year ago but it was fully explained in the documentary. If it was that interesting I would have remembered it.They showed him performing it on stage. The timing, phrasing, melodic flow was terrible. I prefer but don't know that much about Gainsbourg apart from the film and documentaries I have seen. Go on now tell me how can I compare the two
The original "Le Moribond" (also known as "Adieu Émile") is from the belgian singer/songwriter Jacques Brel, written in 1961. The english translation is from Rod McKuen.
When I was really little I thought a dad wrote this song from heaven, and I cried because I thought a little girl lost her daddy. About eight years later, I know who wrote it, I know that it isn't a dad from heaven singing to his daughter. But still every time I hear this song my eyes get wet. It was my favorite song when I was little, it's my favorite song now. <333
this is a memorable song for me as well, I've always loved this song, and I get emotional everytime I hear it. It reminded me of my late mother (god bless her heart), and my father (god bless his heart too). It's amazing how one song can change a person's distorted thoughts, (that's me). It's a calming song for me.
Mein Freund starb im 'AKH'-'Wien' auf der Station '13 C' dahin ...
Ich brauchte 1 Bier & fuhr mit dem Aufzug ins Parterre; Xakt dieses Lied hörte ich bei meinem Seiterl !! (plötzlich verstand ich 'Englisch' gut) - Ich hab' immer 'my shell' verstanden. 'Muschel als was Besonderes'!
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
normaly i dont have anything about those songs , but i hate this one ....why ....cos is a "suicide letter" . he killed himself after he song this one .
There is something about this song...I can only picture myself with my friends when I was kid, climbing trees, running, playing ball and making up silly stories. Most of all, we were kids whose parents were poor but we had almost no worries at all.
My mom wants this one to be played on her funeral (sic!) ... so Mummy, just let me tell you one thing, my sister and me decided, we ain't gonna play this song within the next 65 years. And you sure don't want us to break a vow. So take care. We love you! <3 <3 <3
@inogi339 Terry Jacks didn't write this song. It was written by Jacques Brel about dying. Terry Jacks used the name Michele but he doesn't have any sisters - just brothers.
@MrRobot1337 "Goodbye my friend it's hard to die" isn't about dying? How is that? Was there something lost in the translation? I know the original had a verse about a cheating wife....with his best friend I think?
@Lizzpear Well its not really a direct translation. Jacques Brel's version is really someone who is about to "die" but he mentions a whole bunch of people will take care of his wife, and he knows because they've already been taking care of her ;).
The English version is about death. French, not quite. Also, the term death in French is very widely used in metaphors. A lot of people argue about what the song is really about in French ;). But death is not as present as in English.
@MrRobot1337 I think you should go back and listen to the lyrics....in Jacques Brel's version, his wife had many affairs including one with his friend. And he IS dying....I don't know what version you're listening to.

Beautiful song, first time i heard it it was today, on a course on university that we have to analyze songs.
It's clearly a suicidal letter, to his friend, to his dad, and to her love. So sad but and with a melody so "happy" behind, beautiful song.
