My daughter LOVES the 80's..but laughs at our dancing! Now, i'm NOT saying her opinion is unjustified but when I listen to our old 80's songs...I cant imagine dancing any other way! :)
patti...one of the hottest and most under rated singers of the 80s..the album "warrior" was a GREAT album with many great songs, that didnt get much air time, sad. did anyone else see "one night only" with scandal on vh1,,that was awesome, would have loved to have been there.
MAN, I really need a time machine. Destination: the best decade ever "80's forever baby", Thank you LORD for letting me experience this awesome decade!!!!!
@Mr80sforever sorry dude. the best music ever came from the 60s. even though i wasnt born until 69. even the 50s had some singers (ie ricky nelson) that blow away anything from today (ie justin beiber). that said, early to mid 90s had some good music also, lisa stansfield, toni braxton, en vogue, and lots of one-hit-wonders that could really SING!
@fixfireleo Even if the 60 had Elvis, The Beatles, The 80's offered us punk, post-punk, New wave, metal, hard rock. Those kinds of music were never established in the 60's. I would love to see post punk band of the 60's, if it existed to go head to head with Elvis or The Beatles, and one more thing MTV. MTV ruled the 80's.
@Supersweetguy guess it's all a matter of taste. i prefer power ballads and very strong vocals, for instance Gladys Knight. i do also like bubblegum, which, in it's way, may have been a precursor to punk music. there were some great singers in the 80s, like Breathe, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics, Stevie Nicks, Gloria Estefan and Mariah Carey to name a few. but it sounds like we like different music. :) oh, elvis is not my fav, i dont care for beatles and beach boys. platters FTW.
Im 22 and I grew up with this, i didnt hear rap for the first time untill i was 14. I dont like alot of the music coming out now, not cause its short but because it crosses me as being mostly shallow, there isnt any depth to most of what is glamorized by radio. im at a loss to how gaga is an icon....peeps r calling her an icon....????. Pat is good though
@travellinman321 Right on- left LA 10 yrs ago, livin in India and didn't hear about that, thnx 4 update. I used to live in Woodstock NY and MacEnroe had a house there, I know it. So maybe I dress like a line referree and call him out, while he is whining and bitching about the call, I'll steal her..... MWA HA HA HA
Such a good tune! No B.S., just instruments coming together and a great arrangement, P.S. could sing her ass off too. Why is good music so hard to come by these days?
I remember the first time I saw Scandal on one of those dance shows of the 80's, and Patty performed in a man's blazer and a black slip with lace on the side, and I thought to myself, "She's wearing underwear" ,,, Madonna must have been watching too!
It is really sad when you see young people (teenagers) saying that they wish they were born in an earlier decade. You did not hear that from teenagers twenty years ago. Wha the hell has happened?
Song had everything: rhythm guitar, keyboards and patty!!!! wonderful memories!!!! cant tell you how much these songs mean to me!!!! I HOPE YOU TOO!!!!!! P.S. just had to say that to this day looking into her eyes makes me melt.
Song had everything: rhythm guitar, keyboards and patty!!!! wonderful memories!!!! cant tell you how much these songs mean to me!!!! I HOPE YOU TOO!!!!!!
This was an AWESOME tune by Patty Smyth and Co. What's sad, though, in my opinion, is that she was never able to duplicate the quality and fun she had with this song. Her next follow up hit with an all-new Scandal band, "Warrior" was drab and mediocre compared to this glorious hit. This song will be remembered as Patty's musical high water mark.
@rgglick I totally agree. Today, everyone's idea of "fun" is seeing who the latest loser will be to get voted off whatever stupid reality TV show they watch, and downloading apps on their smartphones. I think we would all look better, feel better, and act better if we returned to letting loose and letting go and not caring so much about what we looked like doing it.
@dis1mop3000How old are you? Does this make you feel like a "Man" because you can write dirty words on YouTube and you think it impresses anyone? Got news for you... it makes you look just like the imbecile you are. Grow up, you stupid moron. Begin by watching Sesame Street; it will teach you skills on how to communicate in society. Just imagine, one day you may even have, dare I say, a girlfirend? (Unlikely, but best wishes anyway!)
@dis1mop3000 No, you little twit, I'm not a "fag boy" my sons will confirm that. Are you sure you have your mommy's permission to be watching and commenting on YouTube?
@anonymystery13 WOW? Fuck you and your sons and your punk ass! And you are a fag. "babycakes"? You enjoy the video and move on FAGBOY SISSY COCKSUCKER!
@anonymystery13 And one more question... Where's your mommy at? Get some pussy from that bitch while you watch and your sons can fuck each other at the same time. Fuckin' Homo. Get on bitch. Prop.8 is legit now. Go get married fudge packer cunt.
haha jesus christ look at this retard (dismop300). what's wrong with you man? you talk like a 12 year old who's insecure about his sexuality, so he huffs model airplane glue and calls people fags on youtube to deal with it
@dis1mop3000It just so happens that I AM a woman and I AM married. I've always been under the impression that men loved to have their c---ks sucked and never thought of it as a derrogatory term. In fact I just don't happen to see anything wrong with it, but that's just my point of view.
PS. My mother passed away 4 years ago and she was far from being a bitch. Now can you just leave me alone and try to watch this pleasant little video and for God's sake, lighten up and try and enjoy yourself?
@anonymystery13 Now can you just leave me alone and try to watch this pleasant little video and for God's sake, lighten up and try and enjoy yourself?
I saw the first MTV video when at college in the early 80's. It was truly a revolutionary new medium. Now, well, it's turned to politically correct bullshit, just like everything else in this upside down country.
she really did have one helluva voice, didn't she? Lifting the skirt @ 2:39 looks tame and innocent by today's standards 1982 you say? good times good times.
I miss the 80s. Music was friendlier and more upbeat, guys' pants stayed above the equator and you didn't have every other female singer or actress bleaching all the color out of her hair.
@myalaynaangel I was 12 too!! We are def NOt old!! We just appreciate awesome music like the 80's was!! The 60's were also awesome!!!! Classic rock and rock in general & Pop are awesome!! I also love the 50's,70's and some 90's music.

i did this tune...it was fun...she was so great...they put her name in front of the band...Patty Smythe & Scandal. One of about 5 female vocalists from the 80's that did not totally suck. A lot of that stuff was crap...we were really listening to Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Van Halen, The Police, Ozzy...!!! I had to sing boy songs...lack of material...i developed a good rock voice though!
It's songs & videos like these that makes me wish I was still living in the 1980s...
On another note, I hope no one hates me for liking The Veronicas cover as equally, but I felt the Australian electropop twin duo did a fine job at keeping this song alive & being able to introduce it to the younger generation who might've not know the song at first.
@medievalfantasy I'm only 18, but I was raised to know what good music was. I wish more than anything that I could've grown up in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Better times.
@medievalfantasy: Word the people of this century and this millenium just plain suck and they know it. Their music sucks, most of their TV shows suck and those that don;t are based on the infallible formulas of the decades past, when it comes to the the last 4 decades of the last century they just ruled in terms of music and entertainment in general.
@JackTron7000 He is, The actual part recorded for the studio version was played by Paul Schaffer, from the David Letterman show. He actually is a kickass musician.
This song has a deeper meaning to me and I am sure a lot of other people. I'd love to sing this to her face, But, her loss. :)

@finian99 I was in the Navy during the mid 80s and having my walkman with groups like this hearing a sexy voice like hers, kept me sane.

Paul Shaffer played the synth part. He wanted a 60s kind of sound.

And just think she was Eddy Van Halan's 1st choice b/4 Sammy for lead singer....

Wow the synth player is obviously faking it.
Then again, the song was probably recorded first.

@JackTron7000 He is, The actual part recorded for the studio version was played by Paul Schaffer, from the David Letterman show. He actually is a kickass musician.
