I always wanted my very own giant Frankenstein robot to fly me around on his shoulder. lol Hana Barbara was no Pixar but, hey, it was a big part of youth.
You're right 967andy . IT STILL ROCKS ! ! ! And I will show these episodes to all my many nephews , so the fan club ( and the legend of Hanna Barbera cartoons ) can live forever ! Even if I will have to translate it to them .
@967andy As a fellow 45-year old, I agree with you.So many Saturday mornings in front of the TV, eating cereal at the coffee table. Great memories. Hanna-Barbera will always have a special place in my heart. I believe Bill and Joe are entertaining angels in heaven now
Understand I love almost every Hanna-Barbera cartoon ever made but logic wasn't their strong suit. For example...they know exactly where the Spyder-Man is but no one bothered to go after him before this? Just sayin'....
@martin518441 Would you have lost more of your brain cells if you had watched one of today's animated cartoons? I wish that anyone could comment on any tv show, both on free tv and pay tv, just like one can comment on a video on YouTube. Imagine what would have happened if YouTube and the rest of the Internet were around when Frankenstein Jr. was a brand new animated cartoon!
"I'm going to make a giant robot based off of a fictional zombie, what should I put in it's chest? I know! A Steam Roller! Just in case it has to flatten some asphalt or, something!"
I just watched this and one of the Impossibles episodes, and in both shows someone uses a bowling-ball type object to knock over other characters/villains, and in both cases the action happened off screen, accompanied by a camera shake and bowling sound effects. Can you say cheap?
@kristell9 what's kinda interesting is that while H-B gets slammed alot for limited animation (and in some cases like this it's deserved) go watch one of the original run of Flintstone's episodes. Or Jetsons. In fact compare the first season of Jetsons from the 60s to the one in the 80's and you'll see just how good they could be and now bad it got. I saw a '60s Jetsons where Jane's mouth was completely in sync even to the sounds of individual letters. It was awesome.
@Colierrannd2 There was an inevitable move to jobbing the animation out to Asia. In the Star Trek animated series documentary, they talk about how each of the animation houses had to make this move and how Filmation was the last. H-B could do great stuff but had many plates spinning. Still some great moments here and there.
You know, cartoons like this and The Herculoids may be old and cheesey, but they're GOOD! They've got plenty of imagination, just enough plot, and astonishing amounts of ass-kicking.
I was in first grade when this cartoon was on CBS Saturday Morning! It was the perfect escape from a long week of learning math, spelling, and reading. (Note how the villian's name is spelled "Spyderman" and not "Spiderman". They were smart enough not to get into a legal case with Marvel).
I've been waiting to see this all my life!!! f*k your brain cells!!

@carycomic1 I am not qualified to respond to that since you are more well versed on the artists behind the animation.

They made the wackiest damn cartoons in the 1960's: Aquaman, Space Ghost, Birdman and Frankenstein Jr. All released on DVD. Awesome.

I think this show was made in 1964 or before. If so, Marvels Spider-man was just an Idea. Love the show as a kid! Thanks great posting!

One criticism: helium doesn't combine with anything, so how could Buzz use it as fuel? They should have used hydrogen, which leaves only water vapor!

Correction: Child actor Dick Beales was the voice of Buzz Conroy and not Daws Butler(of Yogi Bear fame)
rayssonation 3 years ago
I recognized the voice of Buzz as the same voice as Speedy of Alka Seltzer fame. Dick Beales really did a job exploiting his talent!
BuddyNovinski 2 years ago
Featuring the voices of Daws Butler as Buzz Conroy
John Stephenson as Buzz's dad
and Thurl Ravenscroft as the voice of Frankenstein Junior!!!!
with additional voices by Don Messick.
The series produced 16 episodes and it was shown on Saturday Mornings on CBS from 1966 to 1967. And it was shown in repeats for the 1967-1968 season.
