Our world is controlled by capitalism, we've had several chances to developed alternive energy sources, but the corporations have always halted it. Our global economy is failing, religious fanatics goes around killing people and we are slowly poisoning our own world.

And to colonize space we need new energy sources to be able to travel the long distances.

@ShadeIsaac Mine H3 on the moon to be used as fuel to power nuclear fusion reactors. Do that until we can figure out a way to produce mass amounts of anti-matter in a cheap manner and then we'll be set for space exploration. (If we had anti-matter in the amount of a small coin, that would be enough power to send the space shuttle into orbit.)

@Leifthrasir How about the risk's of using anti-matter? But most important; will the governments and corporation going to invest in mining the moon and the use of anti-matter? I think not. And then our global economy is very instable.

@ShadeIsaac Several governments are already investing in mining He-3 from the moon. China especially. It is still in the planning stages, but it will happen. As for risk of using antimatter? Well the risks right now are all theoretical, as so far we have been unable to hold no more than a handfull of anti-hydrgen atoms no longer than 16 mins. Reasearch on antimatter is still brand new. But the potenial is almost limitless.

@Leifthrasir Not limitless at all, the manufacture of antimatter is generally only possible from collider experiments which are both expensive and only produce tiny amounts of antimatter. The old adage of you don't get something for nothing is very true here. Fortunately really as antimatter has a habit of destroying stuff rather well, if it was easy to create we'd all have blown up by now.

This game is very truthful when it comes to our future. Yes their will be "augs" (their already able to make a blind man see and a deaf woman hear). It will only be a matter of time before they start to enhance soldiers and police to make them unstoppable (in order to crush any rebellions) and yes their are men working behind the scenes maybe not "Illuminati" but their are people who don't what you to know what they know

This game's story is so good because you can really see the resemblance with our own problems nowadays. Who knows... Maybe this IS our future.

I myself think one step further, that global corporations will eventually have all the power. Like Syndicate for example. This doesn't need to be a bad thing, but it will become a close reality now that the global economic is going down.

A)Screw ourselves over and a new dark age begins (and with no more fossil fuels will probably NEVER get back on to our current tech level) Thus dooming us forever.

B)A natural disaster will screw us over.

or

C.We start colonizing space, and become the god's we have striven to be.
