How is it fair for a small man equal in strength to a woman candidate, to be passed up just for being a man? I respect the women I've worked with, but good luck convincing equipment or a body to weigh less just for them. It doesn't work.

They are built differently, on average they are not Built to effectively hold a job such as a firefighter, but they get the job because standards were wrongly lowered to accommodate them, so now they can be an ineffective firefighter because they were built different.

I've said it before. The job requirements are not created because that is what men can achieve, they determined what the minimum requirement was for any person to be effective at their job. THEN they lowered those standards for women for Political Correctness making them not effective enough to do the job they were hired to do, so they have to carefully delegate what tasks they hand to them and let others pick up the slack.

All I'm saying is that women should meet the SAME requirements as everyone else, then I'd have no problem with a woman in the position. THAT is equality. Saying even though you're not good enough, we'll patronize you and lower the standards so you can make it, is not equality for men OR women. If I were a woman I would be ashamed to get a job because they lowered the standards just so I could qualify, that is not an accomplishment I could be proud of.

THAT is precisely the problem. They Aren't required to be able to meet that requirement. They aren't required to be able to carry an average person's dead weight, they aren't required to carry ladders by themselves, they aren't required to haul the same length of hose the same distances etc. All standards that were developed based on what was required and not because that is what men happen to be able to handle. They lower life safety standards to accommodate Political Correctness.

I do believe they need to keep standards up for all officers. If a man can no longer pass the PT test then they should be taken off the street, or they should be let go. For departments that don't do that, then I disagree with them, and feel they should correct that. Your argument asserts that two wrongs make a right. Or the "would you jump off a bridge too" argument. Just because non life critical activities lower standards, it does not make it right to do do the same for officers.

Except they don't lower the standards for men, so the men hired to be Fire Fighters CAN carry you out, that is my point. I realize lowering standards for women is how it is in almost every aspect of life that involves athleticism. Why? Because the average Woman does not match the Average Male when it comes to physical activities. They have their own class in sports and rightfully so. But for a job where lives depend on your physical ability there should never be a women's category.

They can be police officers, and fire fighters because the minimum requirements for the job have been lowered to accommodate them. Statistically woman are less athletic then men. While there are some women that can match men's physical capabilities it isn't the norm. So unless you are referring to those exceptions, no, women cannot do anything men can do. Physical standards set for Police Men and Fire Men were established not because that is what men can handle, but because that is what the job required. Then they lower those minimum standards to accommodate women which creates a safety risk.
