  • Fantastic to see BBC content on Youtube. I hope there will be more.

  • THANKYOU so much for this, my DVDs of it all got broken when I moved !

  • I love this show, However, I don't think that The League is essentially English. It is essentially small-isolated-town-ish. you are more likely to get this sort of humour if you are from a creepy small town in the American west than you are if you grew up in London or Brighton. Also it is hyper meta humour. Nearly everything is a joke, within a reference, within a nod to a B horror film made decades ago, that hardly anyone watched. So, you kind of need to be "one of us"... to be one of us. XD

  • This is twelve miles from where I live. I was always popping into that shop for I can I can't.

  • ....WTH! I agree with the canned laughter.....thats horrible...i stopped as soon as the sign for the village popped up and i heard laughing....THE SIGN ISNT FUNNY!!!!!!!!

  • I live in the Cotswolds and literally every shop is like this. Even Tesco.

  • fuck the bnp

  • Mark Gattis is a fantastic actor.

  • im english and i just dont like this show.....not in the classic british comedy class for me

  • @djren2007

What were you expecting- the Ealing comedy? A remake of Fawlty Towers?

  • I finished watching series 1 it is very funny if you understand the humor, But you people are making it seem like this is the funniest thing ever made..Which it's not and yeah I'm American...

  • @demarcos69

im english and i dont find this show funny at all...ive tried to watch a few episodes and it just doesnt work

  • MARK GATISS <3

  • I always thought the weight watchers women from Little Britain is a blatent rip off of Pauline

  • I just bought this dvd from amazon hoping it wouldn't have canned laughter on it. it did. This is black comedy not family entertainment. why in gods name did they ruin it. its now unwatchable. The arsehole from the BBC who thought canned laughter needed to be added should be sacked on site. you wouldn't put canned laughter on Dr Stranglove. BBC please bring out the original version without this idiotic dubbed laughter.

  • this is the first time i've noticed the slab of meat on the end of the counter of the local shop

  • RUN, MICKEY, RUN!!!

  • Fantastic show, and more like Britain than Little Britain ever was... if you don't believe me, you should see where I grew up LOL.

  • The bit with the police officer in the shop is very Wicker Man.

  • I remember this coming on PBS and Alabama Public TV waaaaay back in the day....I didn't understand every joke, it's British...I mean cm'on, but looking back this is simply brilliant.

  • hilarious but i really wish they would get rid of the near constant laugh track it's really distracting and annoying.

  • season 1,,,, how fucking irritating this is a british show for british people theres nothing for americans here

  • @djsreview if you don't like it, then don't watch it!! i happen to think that this show is one of the best written comedies ever!!

  • @khanell786 have you been taking too much special stuff?

  • @djsreview lol

  • i had this on umd for my psp and would sit and watch the whole of series on over and over again its just so funny

  • This for me is one of the finest sitcoms of recent decades. Who cares about the canned laughter, first time I watched it I didnt even notice due to laughing myself all the time anyway. From this very first opening sequence and that haunting theme tune, I was hooked. They do a fine live show too.

  • I wish I could get into this, but I can't. :(

  • @punkonthis It took me a while to get into it.

  • @punkonthis ill tell you why the canned laugheder in episodes 1 and two are verry offputting try watching a bit more like the whole seris

  • "there is a Swansea" I love it!

  • Class. Shame about the canned laughter.

  • First viewing. I might of liked this, but the canned laughter spoils it!

  • @bhoskintube I believe I'm right in saying they dropped the fake laughter in series 3, and it was a far superior viewing experience.

  • Reese you odd incredible man

  • Thumbs up for Dr Chinnery!!

  • classic and original

  • "PLUMS!!!!" hahahaha

  • was there really a need to put mark in that dress? this is now one of my new favorite shows. mainly because mark gatiss is cute and hilariuous. and the humor in this in slpiting my sides with laughter.

  • @boosher78 I fully agree I LOVE British comedy, its way better.

  • british comedy is better than america's

  • @TheTwollocks what about curb your enthusiasm

  • @calumajmacmillan i must admit i do like curb your enthusiasm..... it reminds me of british comedy

  • 'Bummers are deaf!' LOL

  • ''..Hokey cokey pig in a pokey..''

  • Reece...I swoon.

  • I wish I could marry Reece Shearsmith.

  • @alexandralsh don't we all.

  • Don't we all!

  • now if you'll excuse me officer... this shop IS local

  • whiskey? whiskey?!

  • It's hard to adjust to the laughter track after watching psychoville and LoG's later seasons :-/. Why did they have to include one? It detracts from the atmosphere and basically nullifies the obscure humour that makes the series so great to begin with. I guess it was just the done thing for all sitcoms at the time, but this just ages an otherwise timeless show. Why not just cut it in the edit?

  • @fraankie1 i was thinking the exact same thing psychoville made me want to watch the LOG after being initially too creeped out...but the laugh track is really distracting.

  • Why does every Youtube comment thread on videos like this become a fight about whose comedy is better? I'm American, and I am a fan of lots of American comedy as well as British comedy. I also like Canadian comedy (KitH ftw). Why can't we just discuss the show instead of having little wars about America vs Britain and similar nonsense?

  • @SeventhEve BECAUSE THE E-PEENIS MUST BE PRAISED.

  • I fancy Tubbs.

  • 21:22 is an amazing sketch!

  • i love these guys. this was one of the first comedy shows my parents let me watch when i was younger (god knows why) and i really hope there is a 3rd season of psychoville! :'(

  • haha i live there ;) its actually called Hadfield, in the town of glossop ;)

  • Its just a big bloody joke to you isnt it!

You are gonna tell this joke! and we're all gonna laugh!

  • Its just a big bloody joke to you isnt it!

  • random, but steve pemberton has great teeth!

  • Comment removed

  • WHY IS THERE AN ADVERT FOR A SHIT FILM ON A PROGRAMME IVE ALREADY PAID FOR WITH MY TV LICENSE FFS FUCK AMERCAINS GET A BRIAN MORANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Oh Reese...

    The beauty.

  • I wish I were somehow related to Mark Gatiss, then I would have an excuse to talk to him and to bask in the glow of his awesomeness.

  • In Dubai endentured servants live lives of abject terror and women are second class citizens. Why on earth would anyone think that the type of person would watch The League would be looking for investment oportunities in a country with a human rights record as awfull as Dubai. Get rid of this deplorable advert. Also their economy is going down the toilet.

  • 4 people got burned by edward and tubbs

  • The vet and the dog... Genius! I cried with laughter.

  • this show is hilarious but it scares the fucking shit outta me, particularly the shop people (i forget their names)

  • Can anyone tell me if the DVD of this has a laughing track? (if there is a DVD)

  • brilliant show. An ability to laugh at the very macabre is a great thing! Although I really really wish there was no laughter track, I hate that in all comedies.

  • I thought this was a video of a combination between League of Legends and TF2...

  • @boosher78 Americans only love our Comedy because they think that shows like Royston Vasey is actually what England is like. Not in an offensive way.

  • @henman09 They certainly think that our teeth are the same!

  • we have nothing here to match the wit or the wisdom

    produced in the UK

  • The biggest fault I can find, is that terrible laughter track - and it's one of the reasons that Psychoville is so good. You can enjoy it as a drama or laugh along..

  • I LOVE this series. Anyone who doesn't think the same seriously doesn't have a sense of humour to me. I just can't fault this. I love my country's comedy XD

And i'm really happy to see some Americans enjoying it as well :)

    Ffffff- Edward XD <3

  • @MelloTheMelon agree with everything youve said haha, and edward ooft ;)

  • @lpoxton Haha!! Thank you i'm glad ^-^ Pahahaaaaa, Edward cracks me up ;P I love Reece Shearsmith(?) or however yo spell is XD xxxx 'THIS IS A DECENT TOWN, AND A LOCAL SHOP! WE'LL HAVE NO TROUBLE HEEERE!' ;P

  • @MelloTheMelon haha yeah edwards voice is just brilliant :'D i love him. reece shearsmith- what a beautiful man :P i desperately want an 'are you local?' or whats all this shouting? we'll have no trouble here!' t shirt :'D

  • Man I have missed this show. So very good.

  • the fucking canned laughter kills it. I was chuffed when I found LOG on youtube but now there is some tittering moron in the audience. This is comedy that grows on yos, i don't need to be told what is funny or when to laugh.

  • We didn't burn him! One of the greatest things I have ever heard

  • Too many camp guys - No comedy muscle. You wanna good British comedy then check out Peep Show. You're dead from the hair down if you don't end up busting a gut laughing at that. This unfortunately is twee and lame. Where the hell are the women?

  • @YoureGuilty hahah what u talkin about? this is awsome, peep show is good as well but this rules.

  • @YoureGuilty Call League of Gentlemen what you want but twee? I think you need a dictionary, pal.

  • THE MASTER!!!!! :)

  • who thought ov that first little britan or theese with the jobshop ,

  • "an astronaught"

    "PISS OFF" lmao

  • This show is a work of genius - very under rated, glad you guys over the pond enjoy it too:-)

  • I loved this episode of The League of Gentlemen, so funny, it brings back happy memories, I was living in Hadfield when this series was made. **********

  • this isn't funny. the only british comedy i like is "an idiot abroad".

  • @coreymaggette An Idiot Abroad isn't funny. Karl Pilkington's become a commercial caricature. America has the best stand ups but we destroy you with television.

  • @coreymaggette That is not even British comedy really. So many better things. Peep show, Dirty sanchez (extreme British jackass), Balls of steel, Inbetweeners, Fonejaker, Facejaker, Trigger happy tv, Shameless, Lead balloon, Never mind the buzzkoks and many more. All funny in there own way. What do you find funny then? Maybe I am biased but Britain is where it is at comedy wise.

  • This programme is the best in british comedy, i literally would never get bored watching this, it is histerical....

  • thanks for uploading,

  • I fucking LOVE Mark Gatiss! >.< <3

  • BBC HAS ADVERTS?

  • British comedy > American comedy

    I'm American.

  • @withallmylove999 couldn't agree more.

  • Royston Vasey, end of the line... I wonder how many people on that train weren't local people lol

  • This is the best comedy on TV

  • I feel like raping the dead mouths of all L'oreal employees right now.

  • Semen is such a persistent stain.

  • It would be a perfect programme if they hadn't inserted the laughter track, shame it took until Season 3 to remove it.

  • The states have great comedy, at times, but I have a love for the Brit comedies.

It started when I was kid. Dallas, Tx was the first place in the states to show them.

    Monty Python, The Young Ones....

  • as far as i know there aint no local humour ive never found this i just find this series serial and weird there nothing local or from any part of britain ive lived in.

  • I live a few miles from where this was filmed. I used to cycle through the exact street to go to work. Since this show, I can't take the place seriously!

  • Almost all the reacurring characters are hilarious as hell the only ones who were not that great were the travling performers, and the 3 buisness men, and that old guy who was part of a rock band

  • this is hilarious stuff use to watch this when i was younger i bought the show and its still funny for the first and second season i didnt like the third season though but that was about it. This is pretty funny so is Blacks books i think another good brittish comedy is called.

  • FIREMAN!

  • WE DIDN'T BURN HIM

  • Well I was 4 when this show was first on, so I kinda missed it at first.

But recently when Psychoville came on, I watched that, and loved it.

Then after a while I watched some of this, and I love this too.

So glad I tried it :)

  • um im an american and i love this its hilarious!

  • Ah Come Om BBC its time to get all your shit on here, get all the classics on!

  • this program is vile

  • @vaxetihirr Well dont fucking watch it then.

Or is there a BBC rep holding a gun to your head?!!

Anyway its for Local people and people who appreciate dark comedy, its really not for people who watch Friends and who have to be spoon fed simple laughs because there tiny brain cant handle anything else.

  • @ourobourous2000 I watch this AND friends. This more though

I'm willing to try a lot of different types of comedy

I watched this since it was first shown on the BBC- I think it was the first repeat of the first episode, about 2 days after the original showing of the first ep.

  • @vaxetihirr perhaps you don't get it then. It's a very clever take on small-town britain...

  • @vaxetihirr Ha Ha Ha! this is gurt brill.

  • I was at the recording of this in the audience was amazing

  • 3 people are not local

  • stop insulting the Americans im british but the americans invented the best of things

  • @SamDisleyJoyson LIKE THE ATOM BOMB

  • @SamDisleyJoyson Like the atom bomb and illeagal immigratio

  • @SamDisleyJoyson Like the atom bomb and illeagal immigration

  • @troydacosta and apple

  • Tubbs will always be my all time favourite character :)

  • ...Why the hell are there adverts in a BBC video!?

  • @jetredAMx Actully its a BBC Worldwide video, different company to BBC, they buy the rights to broadcast these shows.

  • Comment removed

  • I live in the village where this was filmed.... and i've never watched it! Here goes....

  • We didn't burn him!!

  • i like my comedy dark

    with

    some

    intelligence

    which is all here!

  • 0:01

  • The Local Shop is very "Have you seen Rowan Morrison? The Wickerman in comedy form!! , & Hillary Briss The Butcher would make a great Lord Summerisle!!

  • i recently re-discovered league of gentlemen and what can i say!? Now I am buying the complete box set of all three seasons and raving to everybody about it all over again. Love it, absolutely love it

  • I hated Mr Chinnery with a passion when I was a child. I still can't watch his sketch in this one, but I'm alright with the other ones now. :) (still horrible though!)

  • i begin to watch. i like clear talking here. but its all exaggerated here.and its kind of Americanised . and these stupid gayish jokes. stupid not always mean funny. as for now.

  • god damn this show used to scare the crap out of me when i was a little kid.. espacally the shop scene

  • Holy crap, wish I'd stumbled on this show earlier - it's hilarious! XD

  • Adverts on the BBC??? Definately not buying a licience now.

  • comments enabled! amazing

  • BRITCOMS ARE SO FUNNY. AMERICAN TV KEEPS COPING THE BBC

  • Comment removed

  • @MrGAYBOYBUNNY77 - Indeed, if only the Americans copied our ability to spell.

  • @alexwasmichael Spelling is easily taught.. couth on the other hand, is not.

  • You get used to the canned laughter after a while, it doesn't bother me anymore. I don't think something like that could ruin a show this good anyway.

  • methinks Leeds

  • The bbc says you've got to have a tv license for a laptop or computer & they put adverts before this the bbc are a bunch of assholes .

  • @kf932009 Actually on the BBC's website it says you don't have to have a TV licence to watch TV on a computer, as long as you don't watch it live.

  • Why are there no aspirins in the jungle? Because the parrots eat 'em all

  • It'd be amusing, if it wasn't for the bloody background laughter

  • someone disliked this? bloody american i bet

  • Loved this when it first came out, but the canned laughter is terrible.

  • best ones was pauline in the job centre and harvey and benjamin lol

  • Hating the canned laughter!!

  • Cant believe ive found this...Rock on Chubby Brown....

  • lmao at the argument below :D hahhaha

  • I moved there for a while.. it is true those born there NEVER LEAVE!

  • As a UK viewer and a TV licence payer i dont see why i should have to sit through fucking ads.

  • @ardearising i understand... it could be that the ads pay for the shows to be made, or something.

  • @ardearising Because this isn't a BBC website - watch iplayer instead.

  • This is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched.

  • wish they would take the canned laughter off, sure it wasn't on the original showing.

  • one of my favourite too, i live round corner from "royston vassey"

  • there shouldnt be adverts this is the bbc

  • @WiLLzNuMbUr1 are you going to pay the BBC for an internet liscence?

  • @Perfect64 *licence

  • @Perfect64 well i pay for my tv license and you cant watch bbc programs even the ones on the internet without it, thats why abroad cant watch i player cus they dont pay the uk tv license. i dont know if you need a tv license to watch other channels but i did here some guy proved he didnt watch any of the bbc chanels and did'nt have to pay it ha ha ha

  • Love this show - hadn't seen it for ages - forgot how brilliant they were.... :x
